Jusepe Ribera, Spain 1590-1652
oil on canvas, 1640
"This enigmatic canvas is not an identifiable subject. Its lack of narrative supports the idea that it is an allegory, the symbolic representation of an abstract idea. The child, crying with her eyes closed, neither sees nor understands. She has her hands on a book she cannot read. This is the representation of ignorance. The old woman, with perceptive eyes and emphatic gesture, represents the wisdom of old age."

The Wisdom Path (formerly known as the Heart Sutra Inscription) traces a series of 38 wooden steles (upright monuments containing verses from the centuries-old Heart Sutra, one of the world’s best-known prayers revered by Confucians, Buddhists and Taoists alike.
These steles display the Chinese version of the prayer, based on the calligraphy of famous contemporary scholar Professor Jao Ssung-l, and are arranged in a pattern, which represents infinity.
Located in the hills of Ngong Ping a short walk from the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, the Wisdom Path offers a view of the South China Sea.
I had three wisdom teeth out, but they had to drill one of them in half to get at it. Then I drove myself home and took these pictures.
Every day I wish I had the wisdom that this guy is supposed to have. Maybe I could help Daniel control his diabetes better if I did. I guess I have to settle for being able to constantly watch, even seeing behind me at times, like our friend Hootie. Watching my son while he sleeps and all through the day, sharing my human level of wisdom with him in teachable moments.
Yesterday is but today's memory, tomorrow is today's dream.

a first. I think.

This old native gal just exuded wisdom, peace and serenity..... her eyes just spoke to me...even behind those awesome glasses......
A street photography as I love them, it represents both the wisdom and fragility that emerges from old people. I especially like his expression focused on his stick before it touches the ground. I do not know anything about this person and yet I have great affection for him when I look at this picture:)
The always wise Lefteye (AKA The 2 pound squish) delivers these words of wisdom from the Rainbow Bridge...
KNOWLEDGE And WISDOM
1 Corinthians 1:20-21 NIV
Where is the wise person?
Where is the teacher of the law?
Where is the philosopher of this age?
Has not God made foolish the wisdom
of the world? For since in the wisdom
of God the world through its wisdom
did not know him, God was pleased
through the foolishness of what was
preached to save those who believe.
The education of our children can be an all-consuming passion. We struggle to get them into the right schools, starting with preschool and continuing through graduate school. But we must keep in mind that a great education does not guarantee success in God's eyes. Many of today's schools, particularly colleges, consider the message of the cross "foolish." To them it is a sign of weakness, disgrace, and low standing. As parents, we must counter that message with the truth that the world's wisdom does not save. The greatest secular education misses the point — only the cross can save.
Wisdom is available when we seek God. When we concentrate our efforts on teaching our children the value of an eternal perspective, we can worry a little less about the world's view of where wisdom can be found. God Bless
This hung in my mother's kitchen throughout my childhood. When I got my own house and began the cycle of constant tidying and messying, I remembered it and asked her for it.
