...Shall be the Stability of Thy Times.
The G.E. Building at Rockefeller Center in New York City has wonderful Art Deco murals over its entrance.

We often use our thinkings and feelings to figure out what we need, physically or emotionally. But there’s another whole level of thinking and feeling that we sometimes neglect. It’s not what goes on inside our head, exactly, but rather what our body is “thinking and feeling.” A simple example is paying attention to what your appetite says you should be eating, and when. Or when your aching back, shoulders, or neck tell you that you’ve been spending too much time on the computer. Modern psychotherapies focus on the often very subtle but powerful messages conveyed by body sensations. Sometimes the wisdom of the body seems to go astray, but more often than not we fail to really listen to what it is saying.
This photo was taken at the play i went to last week.

A marble statue of Minerva representing Wisdom in the Corinthian Hall of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts.
I had a wisdom tooth removed on Wednesday, 25 July 2007. It was the lower left one. My face is puffed up and looks like I was punched in the jaw, a la Michael Corleone in that scene outside the hospital in the Godfather, when he's hammered by the police captain. And it feels as bad as it looks.
Andrew Zuckerman: The Wisdom Project
Filmmaker and photographer Andrew Zuckerman thinks hard-won insights should be shared. That’s why he’s releasing The Wisdom Project, a one-hour documentary film and companion book that share the collective experiences of 51 luminaries over age 65, including authors, artists, and world leaders from Willie Nelson to Nelson Mandela.
Inspired by the ancient African concept of ubuntu, which emphasizes human connectedness—I am what I am because of who we all are—Zuckerman set out to gather and communicate the lessons his extraordinary subjects have learned about love, work, the environment, and conflict resolution. “We live in a confusing and fast-changing world,” says the filmmaker. “It’s a great time to look to our elders, to see what they have to say that can help us.”
There is a short inspiring capture of people that is quite moving to listen to.

My grandmother has always loved owls; she has various owl-inspired knick-knacks all over her house.
When I was little, I didn't get it. Owls? Why not peacocks? Or bluebirds?
As I've grown older (and wiser, as it were), I've come to realize that my grandmother and I are kindred spirits. Like her, I have grown to love owls--both for their strange, fierce beauty and for the various things they represent.
