A Willie Wagtail, taken during our Robe road trip end of last year.
The Willie Wagtail is the largest, and most well-known, of the Australian fantails.
The plumage is black above with a white belly.
The Willie Wagtail can be distinguished from other similar-sized black and white birds by its black throat and white eyebrows and whisker marks.
The name wagtail stems from the constant sideways wagging of the tail.
Young birds resemble the adults, but have paler, slightly rusty edges to the feathers of the wings.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated.
Peaceful Sunday
Another very common, very tame species. Despite its name, it's not a true wagtail but a member of the Fantail family, Rhipiduridae
Flinders Range, South Australia
this is a Fantail species, not related to the Wagtails

Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys)
Happy because there was lots of insects around for it to snack on.

Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) juvenile
This youngster gave me a good view of its juvenile rufous colouring.
Happy Wing Wednesday!
Seems like there has been an explosion of Willets this year. I'm seeing a lot more everywhere. this one and it's mate were at the usual spot under the bridge to the left.

Australian favourite (Rhipidura leucophrys) drying out after washing in a bird bath — tail wagging, wing shaking and persistent vocalisation like a tiny starting motor chirruping – a persistent visitor all over Australia. This one and its pair are regular visitors to the bird baths in my home garden in the hinterland of the Queensland Gold Coast.

With lots of insects filling the evening air, Willie was like a kid in a sweet shop
Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) juvenile
This young Willie was under the supervision of Mum or Dad as it looked for insects at Vic Uni.
Spending so much time here, figured I would just name them. Willie is still at his same tricks, trying to steal a free meal, and Curtis is trying his best to prevent him from succeeding. But Willie is shorter and quicker, so he does just fine.
The Australian Magpie got too close to the Willie Wagtail fledglings. Willie Wagtail is one of our feistiest birds.
This busy young Willie Wagtail took a few moments out of its busy schedule hunting insects to pose for me.

Willie wanted to be sure that I would not be stopping in its territory. By the look of the spit in the chest feathers, it's probably incubating at present.
Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) juvenile
So many young Willies around at the moment. It seems that most pairs have had multiple clutches.
Taken at Tuggerah Lakes, a wetland system of three interconnected coastal lagoons, are located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia
I felt a little housebound this morning, so headed out to Morpeth, NSW; Australia for a little fresh air and hopefully a couple of bird images as well.
I spotted this Willie Wagtail having a breather on a fence post nearby.
*** Best viewed LARGE on Black!!! ***
We've had a VERY dry Winter so far resulting in the entire state of New South Wales being declared drought stricken....... this explains the tan colored background - it's actually parched farmland and grass!!
Thanks for any comments, views or favorites - always appreciated!
Wishing you all a wonderful day.
Found a bunch of creations that I had done last year and they had been erased from my memory... A Midjourney.ai creation.. Prompt:
There once was a hamster named Willie
I know this is going to sound silly
But he spent all of his day
Trying to run away
And his wheel only got him to Philly…
HAPPY SLIDERS SUNDAY, EVERYBODY!!!
