In the book of Philosophy of Life “I think; therefore, I am”... But who you are realy and where are you going is another question that needs to be Answered.

Just a crazy notion and a bit of creative fun from a part of a crystallised stained glass window, from Worcester Cathedral on my resist visit to Worcester. Which caught my attention and I loved the way of the backlight shined from outside on this part of the widow, which was casting some nice light and colours around it.

Photograph taken on Tri-X. I didn't keep great records when in High School and College but I do know this was taken in the late 1970s in Manhattan New York City. Newstands are pretty much a thing of the past.
Well it is now 2025 and AI has invaded our world. I'm wondering which one people prefer. I will say I vote for B&W but I'm old school. Love to hear your opinions.
My grandson Leo was on this particular ride which DID NOT crash but there has been one fairly recently where several swinging cradles got entangled and people were hurt and had to be rescued. I don't know if I would advise anyone to use them now tbh....
I don’t mind saying I have now printed a 12x 18 ins photo of this on my Epson d700 printer and the colours are exactly the same as seen on my PC monitor and iPad. I mounted it in a pure white Matt/ Mount cut by myself with help from Jonathan using a Logan Mount Cutter - (trying to get a mount/matt for an a3+ print has proved impossible )- and framed it in a 24x18 a2 aluminium frame I printed towards my grandson Leo’s birthday next month. He was shown an a4 print before I came on holiday and says it’s brilliant…..the first ever photo/print he likes enough to accept lol…one very proud and pleased mama 😊
I am actually still in awe at the colours and thought the printer would struggle with the front ‘ spike ‘ which close to the wide part goes from purple and pink to a pinky orange before true orange and on to yellow. After help from Marrutt when purchasing Marrutt fine art papers plus lustre paper which this is printed on I am utterly delighted by the results…I thought the printers would struggle but none do. The faffing about over the years with monitor calibration etc etc…I am printing more now which suits while I am unwell. Looking like I need another scope to look at my vocal chords as have very little voice left by the evening…but feel very slightly better atm… Sue :)

Well the time has come......which tbh I didn't really think was going to happen and at the last minute by some miracle all would work out.....
(bad habit me thinking like that its beginning to appear 🙈).....There would be space at the ideal local SEN provision for 'H'
In one way I've saved myself a summer of worry thinking it would all work out in the end......
Other hand - BAM I'm now a Yr 7 teacher.......
So for teacher's perks (and yes we are following the curriculum and have a classroom set up - even a list of our school policies 😁) I declare photography on the time table.....
And I'm pleased to say the lesson has contributed immensely to 'H's photography skills......
As demonstrated by him Sunday morning when we went to watch the 'swan song' for the Class 507's at Hooton Station ......
He skidded onto the platform floor like a footballer with his celebration knee slide that even Mbappé would have been proud of .....don't quite know what the other photographer's thought.....but there again he's just like his Mom 😁
Dalun Mountain, which stands at a height of 1,600 meters above sea level, is in Nantou’s Lugu Township.
Clouds drift at a low altitude forming a “sea of clouds” which appear like white cotton candy. When night comes, the clouds are illuminated by the lights of the city, with the reflected light creating a colorful scene that is both beautiful and intoxicating.
There are some birds which migrate to India in very large numbers, tens of thousands and maybe millions. Rosy Starling in one such migrant. Flying in from Central Asia and Europe, these birds are found in large flocks in the winters often 30-40 and sometimes in 100's. They outnumber the resident starlings during winters, though they seem to co-exist peacefully.
I sighted a large flock of around 100 on this day on a lake embankment. They were busy in the small flowering shrubs grabbing the berries and making a lot of noise. The paddy / rice season has completed and farmers burnt the dry fields in preparation for the next crop. These birds help farmers by picking off any insects that remain. Joining these Rosy Starlings were the local residents, the Chestnut Tailed, Common Myna and the Brahminy starlings.

I love these Clapham stations on the Northern line, stepped off one train and was really lucky to see another pull in.
This is about a mile from Great Oxendon, which is a small village in the north of Northamptonshire. It is about three miles south of Market Harborough, which is just over the Leicestershire border. The village, which is a mile or so west of here, is on the main road between Harborough and Northampton. "The George" pub-restaurant on the main road was one of my favourite eateries. It is sadly now closed, of course. The village was once served by a railway line between the two towns, but it was a victim of the Beeching cuts, and was first closed to passenger traffic in 1960. It then had a chequered history finally closing to all traffic in 1981. The former railway tunnel at Great Oxendon is now part of the Brampton Valley Way footpath. This surrounding beautiful rolling countryside is predominantly farmland.
I am not sure which room my 8 grandkids like best, my music room or my art room! At ages 5-14 now the art they create is higher quality than the music, but I have high hopes for continued improvement! The music room has a Yamaha piano, 2 guitars, a mandolin, ukulele, thump harp, penny whistle, and various sizes of recorders and about 8 harmonicas! Also a Ghanaian drum and other small shakers. I have gone through phases of time when I have focused on different art forms. I got my college degree in Theater and loved musicals. I got married at age 20 and quickly had to find a way to make enough money to support a family. The job I stumbled into was working for UPS. So early on to keep my mind from going numb from repetition, I started writing songs while driving. In the 1990’s, I wrote 7 musicals with about ten songs in each along with the dialogue. So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

The Looe River, which divides East and West Looe in the south-east of Cornwall, is extremely shallow and you can literally walk across it at low tide. Looe remains an important fishing port, with the fish market on the riverside at East Looe (on the right). The fishing boats can only get in and out when the tide is fairly high, and at the moment most of them are out at sea. But they'll be back in port with their catch before the river gets too low.
The Protestant Church of St. Katharinen, which dates back to the 13th century, with its 115 meter high tower cannot be overlooked when you are traveling in the Hafencity in Hamburg.
It is considered the oldest upright building in Hamburg that is still in use.
Due to its proximity to the harbor, it is considered the sailors' church. That is why she also bears the name of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of sailors and merchants.
Since Hamburg was one of Europe's centers for trade and shipping at the time, this makes perfect sense.
Further to the left in the background you can see the church of St. Nikolai, which was destroyed in the Second World War and of which only the tower remains today as a memorial.

Auf Grund ihrer Nähe zum Hafen gilt sie als die Kirche der Seeleute. Darum träge sie auch den Namen der Heiligen Katharina von Alexandrien dem Schutzpatron der Schiffer und Kaufleute.
Da Hamburg zur damaligen Zeit eines der europäischen Zentren für Handel und Schiffahrt war, macht das absolut Sinn.
Weiter links im Hintergrund seht Ihr noch die Kirche St. Nikolai, die allerdings im 2. Weltkrieg zerstört wurde und von der heute nur noch der Turm als Mahnmal erhalten ist.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO:
So far there's only been one photo in my gallery that hasn't been taken in my garden ('The Flame Rider', captured in the Maggia Valley: www.flickr.com/photos/191055893@N07/53563448847/in/datepo... ) - which makes the image above the second time I've "strayed from the path" (although not very far, since the photo was taken only approximately 500 meters from my house).
Overall, I'll stick to my "only-garden rule", but every once in a while I'll show you a little bit of the landscape around my village, because I think it will give you a better sense of just how fascinating this region is, and also of its history.
The title I chose for the photo may seem cheesy, and it's certainly not very original, but I couldn't think of another one, because it's an honest reflection of what I felt when I took it: a profound sense of peace - although if you make it to the end of this text you'll realize my relationship with that word is a bit more complicated.
I got up early that day; it was a beautiful spring morning, and there was still a bit of mist in the valley below my village which I hoped would make for a few nice mood shots, so I quickly grabbed my camera and went down there before the rising sun could dissolve the magical layer on the scenery.
Most human activity hadn't started yet, and I was engulfed in the sounds of the forest as I was walking the narrow trail along the horse pasture; it seemed every little creature around me wanted to make its presence known to potential mates (or rivals) in a myriad of sounds and voices and noises (in case you're interested, here's a taste of what I usually wake up to in spring, but you best use headphones: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfoCTqdAVCE )
Strolling through such an idyllic landscape next to grazing horses and surrounded by birdsong and beautiful trees, I guess it's kind of obvious one would feel the way I described above and choose the title I did, but as I looked at the old stone buildings - the cattle shelter you can see in the foreground and the stable further up ahead on the right - I also realized how fortunate I was.
It's hard to imagine now, because Switzerland is one of the wealthiest countries in the world today, but the men and women who had carried these stones and constructed the walls of these buildings were among the poorest in Europe. The hardships the people in some of the remote and little developed valleys in Ticino endured only a few generations ago are unimaginable to most folks living in my country today.
It wasn't uncommon that people had to sell their own kids as child slaves - the girls had to work in factories or in rice fields, the boys as "living chimney brushes" in northern Italy - just because there wasn't enough food to support the whole family through the harsh Ticino winters.
If you wonder why contemporary Swiss historians speak of "slaves" as opposed to child laborers, it's because that's what many of them actually were: auctioned off for a negotiable prize at the local market, once sold, these kids were not payed and in many cases not even fed by their masters (they had to beg for food in the streets or steal it).

The boys were sold as chimney sweeps, the girls ended up in the textile industry, in tobacco processing in Brissago or in the rice fields of Novara, which was also extremely hard work: the girls had to stand bent over in the water for twelve to fourteen hours in all weathers. The conditions for the chimney sweeps - usually boys between the age of 8 and 12 (or younger, because they had to be small enough to be able to crawl into the chimneys) - were so catastrophic that many of them didn't survive; they died of starvation, cold or soot in their lungs - as well as of work-related accidents like breaking their necks when they fell, or suffocatig if they got stuck in inside a chimney. Now I don't know if the people who built the old stone houses along my path had to sell any of their kids, but looking at the remnants of their (not so distant) era I felt an immense sense of gratitude that I was born at a time of prosperity - and peace - in my region, my country and my home. Because none of it was my doing: it was simple luck that decided when and where I came into this world.
It also made me think of my own family. Both of my grandparents on my father's side grew up in Ticino (they were both born in 1900), but while they eventually left Switzerland's poorest region to live in its richest, the Kanton of Zurich, my grandfather's parents relocated to northern Italy in the 1920s and unfortunately were still there when WWII broke out.
They lost everything during the war, and it was their youngest daughter - whom I only knew as "Zia" which means "aunt" in Italian - who earned a little money to support herself and my great-grandparents by giving piano lessons to high-ranking Nazi officers and their kids (this was towards the end of the war when German forces had occupied Italy).
I never knew that about her; Zia only very rarely spoke of the war, but one time when I visited her when she was already over a 100 years old (she died at close to 104), I asked her how they had managed to survive, and she told me that she went to the local prefecture nearly every day to teach piano. "And on the way there would be the dangling ones" she said, with a shudder.
I didn't get what she meant, so she explained. Visiting the city center where the high ranking military resided meant she had to walk underneath the executed men and women who were hanging from the lantern posts along the road (these executions - often of civilians - were the Germans' retaliations for attacks by the Italian partisans).
I never forgot her words - nor could I shake the look on her face as she re-lived this memory. And I still can't grasp it; my house in Ticino is only 60 meters from the Italian border, and the idea that there was a brutal war going on three houses down the road from where I live now in Zia's lifetime strikes me as completely surreal.
So, back to my title for the photo above. "Peace". It's such a simple, short word, isn't it? And we use it - or its cousin "peaceful" - quite often when we mean nice and quiet or stress-free. But if I'm honest I don't think I know what it means. My grandaunt Zia did, but I can't know. And I honestly hope I never will.
I'm sorry I led you down such a dark road; I usually intend to make people smile with the anecdotes that go with my photos, but this one demanded a different approach (I guess with this latest image I've strayed from the path in more than one sense, and I hope you'll forgive me).
Ticino today is the region with the second highest average life expectancy in Europe (85.2 years), and "The Human Development Index" of 0.961 in 2021 was one of the highest found anywhere in the world, and northern Italy isn't far behind. But my neighbors, many of whom are now in their 90s, remember well it wasn't always so.
That a region so poor it must have felt like purgatory to many of its inhabitants could turn into something as close to paradise on Earth as I can imagine in a person's lifetime should make us all very hopeful. But, and this is the sad part, it also works the other way 'round. And I believe we'd do well to remember that, too.
To all of you - with my usual tardiness but from the bottom of my heart - a happy, healthy, hopeful 2025 and beyond.

Day 68 - Close to Home
Broadoak Park, and this spot is about 10 minutes walk away, although I have to cross a main road which can take ages.
Jumping spiders use their legs to pounce on their prey, which is typically other insects. Amazingly, jumping spiders don't have special leg muscles, like grasshoppers, to help them leap. They propel themselves by suddenly changing the blood flow in their body. Terminix
Jumping spiders or the Salticidae are a family of spiders. As of 2019, it contained over 600 described genera and over 6000 described species, making it the largest family of spiders at 13% of all species. The River Nene, which has three sources in Northamptonshire, reaches the sea at The Wash. It is the slowest flowing river in England. The Nene Valley has a broad flood plain, and at Wadenhoe, in between Thrapston and Oundle, the river splits into branches with the nearest one becoming the millstream for the ancient watermill. The navigable part of the river is reached via the lock gates on the right of the picture. In the distance on the left can be seen the church spire at the tiny village of Achurch, which overlooks the Nene Valley.
This is the 15th century Lady Chapel window at the east end of Christchurch Priory in Dorset – and isn’t its intricacy and craftsmanship simply breathtaking! The Priory (which is actually a parish church) dates from the 11th century.
There was quite a lot of people trying to get shots of the interior of Carlisle Cathedral which was founded in 1122 as an Augustinian priory. I was acutely aware of those waiting and never got the time I would’ve liked to get something better. Felt a bit wrong to sprawl out on the floor while a queue was forming.
Tonight's sunset was rather boring, so I felt like staying out later than normal to experiment. My 4-5 last shots were the most intense because I prefer to shoot @ 12mm. Keeping the mist off my lens was the biggest challenge.
I'm working on removing contacts that don't talk, so if you add me as a contact please say something otherwise it was nice knowing you! Sorry!! It's just too hard to keep up with my friends especially while I'll be out of town the next few months.

I can't think of a better title but when looking at shots that I took of my city of Nottingham I once again remembered what I considered a case of inverted snobbery. I reminded Jonathan who does not take my side in this saying "it’s tough but you can't win so drop it " No support there then. I was born in Sneinton a suburb of Nottingham and attended Secondary school in the heart of Sneinton and when married lived on Windmill lane a two minute walk from Greens Windmill and all the four children I had were born in the house on Windmill lane which is THE very heart of Sneinton. I just did another check of the boundary map and just as I was informed by this eclectic group my present house is literally a cul de sac ( just to make this clear) on the wrong side of a boundary road. There is a group that make up The Sneinton Artists Quarter that have markets and stalls and events to market their various Arts. I print and frame my own photo's and asked to join this group. I was turned down flat as I live mere metres away on the wrong side of the street now :( Some times I am proud of where I was born and where all my mothers side of the family hailed from...I feel like the egg which was kicked out of the nest by a cuckoo lol...I know I am mixing metaphors but ' hey, I am accepted on Flickr and know my friends don't make distinctions like that ..Sue :)
Btw, you may find my use of a macro lens here odd...but it is still a prime lens and I like that length occasionally as it covers different options when I go into town...

When I begun to process this exposure bracketing, I thought that I knew what I wanted to attain. I was perfectly wrong. Indeed, these RAW files kept a few secret bits of beauty which I was not aware of when I selected them for processing – and they changed the course of the journey I had foreordained.
I was in a gloomy mood, for both personal and general concerns, and the RAWs looked rather duller than the average – taken: they appeared to accurately mirror the state of my soul. At worst, I would have wasted some hours of pointless procesing work before deciding to look for something better. Nobody would have known. However things were to contradict my expectations. I got some good news (a rarity in those tough days) about the health conditions of my brother and my “adopted brother-in-law” (i.e. my brother’s brother-in-law); on the other hand, Darktable – that wonderful software – gifted me with a few unanticipated treasures. My thoughts were growing more and more positive and the processing of this bracketing were proceeding accordingly: a hidden beauty was unfolding before me, my own persisting unawareness of it notwithstanding. At last I found myself with a picture that had apparently self-processed itself*, while I was busy exploring uncharted thoughts that kept emerging along the way
* Admittedly a bizarre phenomenon, which Maurits Cornelius Escher would have loved – think of his Drawing hands.
I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.
This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning. On top of the hill in the distance, beyond the river, lays the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon.
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwithstanding, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.
RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).

talking about growing, a tad over 6 months old (wow, that's flown by) Sherman is now way bigger than his mum, and will definitely be bigger than his dad, Simba, before his first birthday.
Supremely calm and assured, he's the only pup that doesn't squabble or play fight for his place in the pack. No need.
...one other thing. Last night I walked into Rob's kitchen to fill up the washing up bowl I use for the adult dogs' water, and Simba — knowing it was food time — began to bark. The empty bowl resonated like a sub-bass speaker in my hand. Sherman's bark is already approaching Simba's which — unfortunately for me ;-) — he reserves for protection of the pack at night when he hears something new from the open door of Rob's Kitchen.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Painted Hills are a landscape of alternating bands of red and tan rocks,
The Painted Hills of Oregon are a part of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, which, as the name implies, are home to a variety of fossils.
But finding fossils takes work. That is not the case with the Painted Hills, although you do have to travel for several miles on back-roads. That said, the drive is pretty easy.
This panorama is a composite of nine 35 Mpix photos.
This palace, which means ‘Stone House’, contains Khiva’s most sumptuous interior decoration, dense with blue ceramic tiles, carved wooden pillars and elaborate ghanch. Built by Allakuli Khan between 1832 and 1841 as a more splendid alternative to the Kuhna Ark, it’s said to have more than 150 rooms off nine courtyards, with high ceilings designed to catch the slightest desert breeze. Allakuli was a man in a hurry – the Tosh-Hovli’s first architect was executed for failing to complete the job in two years.
