Reisetagebuch vom 30.04.25:

Was fehlt?

Travel diary 30/04/2025:Railay – a place that remains, even as everything changes

Five visits since 2018 – and still, every time feels like returning to an old friend. Railay, with its towering limestone cliffs, lush greenery, and that laid-back monkey gang that couldn’t care less about selfies, only banana peels.

Sure, the initial magic fades a little over time – maybe because otherwise it would be too overwhelming. But the atmosphere stays. Especially the path down to Phra Nang Beach, winding through tropical foliage and rusty-red rock, always feels like a small pilgrimage to the edge of the world.

What’s missing? The legendary “food boats” – floating kitchens that used to line the beach daily, serving sizzling wok dishes and heartfelt Thai food straight from their longtail boats. Pad Thai, Som Tam, grilled fish – fresh, cheap, and full of soul. They disappeared with the pandemic and never returned.

Maybe they were a casualty of order, maybe it was a quiet decision. But their absence is felt – not just in the stomach, but in the heart.

Still: Railay remains. Not as a place of spectacle, but as a place that lingers – quietly, honestly, deeply.

Thank you for your visit. Danke für den Besuch!

These lovely swallows are the Australian equivalent of our Barn Swallow. Not quite a migratory as the northern species they are very alike - even down to the twittering song

A Welcome Swallow sits quietly for a few short seconds on old fencing wire, before quickly darting off to catch insects in the wetland adjacent. I did try for some time to get one in a flight dive but they are so very quick and hard to keep in focus. They are little acrobats and fun to watch.

It's something of a Statue of Liberty thought.

Welcome to the most long series, what I never do! My travel across Iceland, seven photos for a day of travel, fourteen days of travel, fourteen weeks sharing with you a impressive country.

I hope you like and this no will do bored you.

Never miss Iceland, if you can go it, go!! Will not regret!!

The ring-necked parakeet although established in the south is still a rarity in the north.

I was therefore delighted when I heard they had been seen in a local park and more specifically on my allotment.

I managed to see the pair fleetingly last week but finally caught up with them a few days ago.

Whilst not popular with some I think they are wonderful and hope you do too.

They are UK's only naturalised parrot.

C-FHCM, a Boeing 737-8 MAX 8, on approach to runway 24R at Toronto Pearson International Airport at Mississauga, Ontario. It was arriving as WJA658 (WestJet Airlines Ltd.) from Calgary, Alberta.

Having not operated its fleet of MAX 8s since March 13, 2019, when Transport Canada grounded the type, WestJet placed them back into service on January 21, 2021.

Taking a rest on the fence while its friends flew all around us.

We are about to have 10 six year olds descend upon us for Sarah's party so it might be a while before I catch up with your posts.

A very welcome visitor to the bay was a small flock of about 20 of these lovely birds.

They spent a few days feeding along the shoreline near the main burn before moving on to pastures new.

Twite breeds on the moorlands of the Scottish Highlands, northern England and north Wales.

In winter some remain in north and west Scotland, near the coast, while others, including continental birds, move to the coast of eastern England where they can be found on saltmarshes and coastal fields.

The 0655 Bristol East Depot to St Austell via the Fowey branch is seen passing a local welcoming committee on the sea wall at Teignmouth. The wall was shrouded in some light sea mist so the promised sun hadn't materialised yet.

Couldn't zoom out fast enough for this but barely got her shadow in. Might work better with a bit more cropped from the top, but I'll let this simmer for a while.
