I was out on the street shooting with my little [Sony NEX7](store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreSearch?stor...) it's a fun little camera much less obtrusive than any full on DSLR type of camera. Met some fun peeps on skateboards and a couple of hassle type people too. So I was glad to claim sanctuary in the Igreja da Consolacao Catholic Church partly just to get a little rest from the drama of the street.............. I was shooting a picture of a statue of Mary when the inevitable blazer guy came over........ " No Photo "................ I said to him 'come on why not' .......... But I was speaking to myself as he spoke no English other than " No Photo" .......... I continued my pointless rambling about can I not ask the Priest bla bla......... and pointlessly bleated on until ...... I said the magic words I will be using no flash ............ the angels began to sing the hallelujah chorus suddenly a beam of light shone on me .......... " The Band" I said He said...... Exploratory python webapp setup in 10m
Sometimes I just want to explore an idea quickly without the kitchen sink. I need something python based (base libraries) without having to hack .httaccess files, download apache and configure it. This rules out django even webpy.
Testing my idea won't be the final implementation. I want to be able to quickly create a prototype. This is what matters most - being able to quickly test the idea myself, then redeploy to appengine, django or another web stack.
Bottle allows me to do this.
You can read more about the Bottle framework here. Previously I've used webpy but setting this up requires (for me) apache then configuring .htaccess and apache config files.
Not now.
Running the app - note all thats needed:
- installing via sudo python setup.py install
- place the bottle.py and your code (test.py) in a dir
- run python test.py
No external webserver, mapping of directory paths etc.
