If you haven’t guessed I was taken with Varanasi – the colors, sights & sounds. Love all the activity, rituals and uses associated with the river. Pictured here is laundry operation. The Ganges River is one big washing machine! Doing laundry in the holy river is an age old tradition. It was fascinating to watch people doing their washing and then laying them to dry on the banks. The operation here appears to be a laundry service of sorts with one group doing laundry for a large number of people. But as important the Ganga is to Hindus, it is sadly one of the most polluted rivers in the world. Human waste, factory chemical wastes, and all kinds of waste pollute the river.

CAMPERDUIN - Sea Foam (Phaeocystis) is a natural phenomenon. After the algae have died (blossomed), the wind and waves whip it up into foam. The foam is eventually degraded by bacteria. Phaeocystis is microscopic, a colony-forming one-celled algae.
