Hmmmm, I have a duck for my pond, hee hee :) Company is coming so I am going to be kind of on and kind of off flikr for the next few weeks, sometimes to enjoy company other times to get ready for them and of course a bit of habitat enhancements in between. Happy Easter and Happy Snapping to all. The information about Rubber duckies below is from Wikipedia.
A rubber duck is a toy shaped like a stylized duck, generally yellow with a flat base. It may be made of rubber or rubber-like material such as vinyl plastic.[1] The yellow rubber duck has achieved an iconic status in Western pop culture and is often symbolically linked to bathing. Various novelty variations of the toy are produced.
The history of the rubber duck is linked to the emergence of rubber manufacturing in the late 19th century. The earliest rubber ducks were made from harder rubber when manufacturers began using Charles Goodyear's invention, vulcanized rubber. As a consequence, these solid rubber ducks were not capable of floating, but instead were intended for use as chew toys.
Sculptor Peter Ganine created a sculpture of a duck in the 1940s, then patented it and reproduced it as a floating toy, of which over 50,000,000 were sold.
Jim Henson popularized rubber ducks in 1969, performing the song "Rubber Duckie" as Ernie, a popular Muppet from Sesame Street. Ernie frequently spoke to his duck and carried it with him in other segments of the show. On a special occasion, Little Richard performed the song.

Antimony Mining
The mining of antimony commenced in Ringwood after its discovery in 1869. Antimony was a sought-after mineral in its time. It was used for making pewter, in the manufacture of vulcanized rubber, as a pigment in paint, for the manufacture of medicines, and in the printing industry. Mining took place during the 1870s and into the 1880s although was generally discontinued after 1892 (due to the recession of the 1890s).

Morning Glory is the common name for over 1,000 species of flowering plants in the family Convolvulaceae.
Morning glory was first known in China for its medicinal uses, due to the laxative properties of its seeds.
Ancient Mesoamerican civilizations used the morning glory species Ipomoea alba to convert the latex from the Castilla elastica tree and also the guayule plant to produce bouncing rubber balls. The sulfur in the morning glory's juice served to vulcanize the rubber, a process antedating Charles Goodyear's discovery by at least 3,000 years. Aztec priests in Mexico were also known to use the plant's hallucinogenic properties.

Besides the ubiquitous yellow rubber duck with which most people are familiar, there have been
numerous novelty variations on the basic theme, including character ducks representing professions,
politicians, or celebrities. There are also ducks that glow in the dark, quack, change color,
have interior LED illumination, or include a wind-up engine that enables them to "swim".
In 2001, The Sun, a British tabloid reported that Queen Elizabeth II has a rubber duck in her
bathroom that wears an inflatable crown. The duck was spotted by a workman who was repainting
her bathroom. The story prompted sales of rubber ducks in the United Kingdom to increase by
80% for a short period.
Rubber ducks are collected by enthusiasts. The 2011 Guinness World Record for World's Largest
Rubber Duck Collection stood at 5,631 different rubber ducks, and was awarded to Charlotte Lee.
In 2013, the rubber duck was inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame, a museum in Rochester, New York,
along with the game of chess.Toys are selected based on factors like icon-status, longevity,
and innovation.

This complex was one of the most interesting places I have ever visited, even 17 years (!!) later. It had so many interconnected buildings, from different time periods and so much crust and decay and color that I knew it was special even though I was relatively new to exploring and it wasn't filled with machinery. I'm going to share a few shots and then a proper feature later on, I have an extensive write-up from an old website of mine, so I will need to dig that up. This place is the one I regret not spending more time in since it was so chill and easy to get into and was demolished totally by 2007. There is still nothing there, probably because it was a superfund site.

Did you know that Wellington boots were made of leather originally, until vulcanized rubber became available in the 1850's.

I spent this past week making myself some jewelry. I am wearing these every day. I like big and bold chunky , with unusual materials, handmade beads, and vintage.
These are made with coral, shell, inlaid bone beads from Tibet; clay and seed beads from India; sand cast, granulated and chevron glass trade beads from Africa; and vintage vulcanized rubber discs and solid copper beads from Africa. I am wearing the world on one arm!
These make me very happy. :-)

I got a kick out of the sign over the service station. Back in the old days when tires had tubes they would have to remove the tire, take out the tube and put a glued patch on it. That was called vulcanizing. Somehow, when I saw this sign I thought of the Vulcan Spock on Star Trek.
Though the mining stopped long ago, Randsburg is not a full on ghost town. A few people live there and they have kept the buildings in good repair and most have some sort of business going on.
