Flaming wool, dark concrete abandoned building, willingness to get doused with sparks... vortex spin.
This looks CRAZY when viewed large.

Taken looking directly at the sun with the hint of color around it. There was more color there than I imagined. Reminds me of a vortex to the afterlife..... or the eye of the dragon...!!!! There appears to be a swirl in the clouds around the sun.
You're probably all getting a little bit tired of seeing the Angel of the North but here's another take on it. The weather is a bit pants at the moment so I thought i'd learn a new method for processing star trails. I have seen a few images featuring these 'vortex' like trails and wanted to give it a try myself. I need a little more practice to refine the technique but it's not turned out too bad for a first attempt. I'm looking forward to trying the technique on some different subject matter.

The Bramante Staircase is the name given to two staircases in the Vatican Museums in the Vatican City State: the original stair, built in 1505, and a modern equivalent from 1932. The original Bramante staircase, in the Pio-Clementine Museum, was built in 1505 to a double helix design by Donato Bramante. It connects the Belvedere palace of Pope Innocent VIII to the outside and stands in a square tower of that building.
I apologise for any dizzyness caused - if its any consolation my eyes have gone a bit funny too. :-)

I spent my weekend in northern Wisconsin musky fishing so I didn't have a lot of time to edit. My other big hobby next to photography is fishing. This is one I've had sitting for awhile of Upper Panther Creek Falls. I thought the water was really rushing when I was there, but have since seen Chris Moore's photo from about two weeks before mine and wow...go check it out if you want to see the most water this place has probably ever put out. Upper is the most magnificent waterfall I have ever seen. Panther Creek tumbles into a few falls on the right and a spring comes out on the left creating the cascades...they combine to form an absolute surreal waterfall. This shot was tough, mainly because my camera was really close to the flowing water so I was getting spray from rushing water and waterfall. I combined quite a few shots all at the same exposure to correct for water spots here and there. I was wiping my lens after every frame I shot. I also took some exposures at a high ISO so I could increase my shutter speed to freeze some foliage in the background. There's no doubt that if you plan on shooting Upper or Lower, you need to prepare to get wet...very wet. Shot with a Nikon D800e.

Merci infiniment.

This weekend, I'm celebrating a year of exploration and sharing with you all, Flickr members. I feel a bit like I'm in a vortex since last April. I have so much to learn and explore. Thank you all for your friendship, comments and sharing. Your artistic talents inspire me a lot. Thank you so much.
My mom and I have been enjoying afternoon craft time almost everyday around 4:00 p.m. It's been a nice respite to the groundhog day aspect of life lately and has given us some wonderful quality time together. Since getting her new quilling kit a couple of weeks ago, she has been creating some truly beautiful paper art pieces including an intricate butterfly and some lovely flowers. I'm almost done with Dominic's Christmas stocking... it's been a lot of work, but it's going to be really cute when finished.
When I saw this week's Macro Mondays theme of "Spiral," of course I asked my mom for assistance. My mom loves wrapping gifts and creating all kinds of art. I suggested either a spiral made out of her new quilling paper strips or a spiral made out of her wrapping ribbon. Well she created both for me so I had to use them both in this photo! The little paper square (which is less than an inch wide) is called a Square Vortex with the different colors spiraling in toward the center. Behind the square is a piece of glittery gold ribbon that she made into a spiral. I put them both on a mirror to get this shot.
