Deep in the Florida woods, a weathered gravestone stands alone, half-swallowed by moss and shadow. It marks the resting place of John Moss Field, a volunteer who fought in the Indian War of 1835. But the silence around it feels too heavy, too deliberate. The stone’s inscription glows faintly in the filtered light, as if still calling out across centuries. The forest seems to lean in, listening. This black and white photograph captures more than history, it hints at a lingering presence, a soldier who never truly left.
My latest photography is now available for purchase at crsimages.pixels.com/, featuring prints, framed art, and more from my curated collections.
A valiant volunteer sunflower in a flower bed, seed dropped from a winter feeder.
Anytime an 'exotic' flower bursts forth on it's own, with no help from human hand, I am delighted! I am amazed at the resoluteness of nature.
Both of these warblers are named after the volunteer state! Nashville Warbler seen at Metrobeach Metropark.
Pansies are one of my favorite flowers, only not in this flower bed. Several years' experience shows they don't thrive. Fertilizer doesn't help. The slugs don't either. So I discontinued pansies beginning this spring.
One of last year's pansies begged to differ. From a tiny seed came this tiny flower. It managed to poke its head out above the thicket of oxalis and glow like a tiny sun in the perpetual shade.

I sometimes wonder that ... But when you do and you go and live with them their pain and sorrow all makes sense ... Volunteers give love, love, hope, support ... Volunteers live worldwide
he was the only one to volunteer for a picture in the middle of the night to test my new Canon 24-70L
Strobist: soft box camera top left 430EX at 1/8th (reflection in eye), reflector right side, cheapo flash for background with blue/green gel (1/16h). Canon 24-70L at f/9, manual exposure.
Today we went to Knole (National Trust). The house is very grand and there are many chairs, but most are throne like upholstered chairs, and they are all lined up against a wall. So I only managed to snap 3 chairs for my National Trust lone chair project and one of those was a chair for the volunteers.
Another stream has been daylighted in Kitsilano
The camera software for the iPhone 14 has been updated and this is the first time I have used it. Mostly because I had forgotten to bring the spare battery for the Canon.
I have not been able to volunteer at my local SPCA due to COVID 19. I really miss the cats and dogs.
