Early Career: From Illustration to Animation
Maurice Noble began his career as an illustrator, but he soon found his way into the world of animation. He started working as a background artist at Warner Bros. in the 1930s, where he quickly established himself as a talented artist. Maurice Noble worked on many classic cartoons such as "Looney Tunes" and "Merrie Melodies" and his work was praised for its artistic excellence and attention to detail.
The Golden Age of Animation: Noble's Work at MGM
In the 1940s, Noble joined the animation studio MGM, where he would spend the majority of his career. At MGM, Noble worked as a production designer, responsible for creating the visual look of the studio's animated films. He was a key member of the animation team, working on films such as "Tom and Jerry", "The Tex Avery Show", "Droopy" and "Screwy Squirrel". His work was characterized by its artistic excellence, attention to detail, and its ability to bring animated characters and worlds to life.

This image was inspired by the visual and psychological design of this Hamas propaganda video. It was not my intention to create a visual relationship between the video and the image, but to create conceptual connections between the dissemination of ideology and culture via mass media and technology.
It’s interesting to examine how Hamas has utilized their highly designed system. While not only being very visually programmed - It also incorporates learning, community and peer participation, character recognition, music, a literary and educational narrative and talented actors. Is this the state of the art in the production of propaganda? How do the North Korean efforts compare? Still, nothing compares to the quality and efficacy of the mind warping substance known to most Americans as, "the News”.

Part of a case study detailing the existence of visual design principles within the urban environment.
Through mirroring images captured in the city center of Cape Town,South Africa I emphasise these principles of line, shape, texture and pattern and the aesthetic qualities inherent to this built environment.
