These delicate frost formations on my garage windows are ephemeral, and can visibly change even in the course of 30 minutes while I am out there taking photographs (and shivering). If it is cold enough, even my breath on the glass can change the appearance.

I processed this one in Capture One Express for Fujifilm, which I have been experimenting with a bit.

A member of the beautiful sunbird family with an extra long beak and often confusing in the wrong angle since it looks like the very common Purple Sunbird. However, the beak is visibly longer with a slight curve that helps it suck nectar from flowers that require a deep beak. The breast area also sports a maroon band which is visible in this shot, but easily missed otherwise.

The bird prefers habitats around this Lion's tail flowering plant in winters and love that plant nectar. The bird is endemic to India. It is found in thick forest and woodland areas usually on the edges and in areas where there are abundant wild flowers.

During my last trip, I didn't see any Pallid Harriers at this roosting location, but could sight mostly Montagu's Harriers. But this time, there were several Pallid Male and female as well. They were all roosting in the grassland, sometimes within 10-20 feet of each other. They were quite passive and flew away when we got close or switched off the vehicle engine to take pictures. The Pallid or Pale Harrier nature is quite visible here as they are visibly pale compared to the greyish blue tones of Montagu's. I find the males more beautiful than the females and easier to id in both the species,

We sighted several which seemed comfortable with us as long as we sat in our vehicle. When we tried to step out and crawl closer, they just flew away.

Jungle prinia's are a warbler species that are the hulky twin of their city cousins - the plain Prinia. Both the species look very similar except for one thing - the size. The Jungle one is visibly bigger and that is what I use for identification.

We found a few singing openly in the fields on beautiful perches. It didn't seem to mind our presence and continued singing for quite a while while grabbed some shots.

A rhinoceros, from Greek rhinokerōs, meaning 'nose-horned', from rhis, meaning 'nose', and keras, meaning 'horn'), commonly abbreviated to rhino, is one of any five extant species of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae, as well as any of the numerous extinct species therein. Two of the extant species are native to Africa, and three to Southern Asia. The term rhinoceros is often more broadly applied to now extinct species of the superfamily Rhinocerotoidea. Members of the rhinoceros family are some of the largest remaining megafauna, with all species able to reach or exceed one tonne in weight. They have a herbivorous diet, small brains (400–600 g) for mammals of their size, one or two horns, and a thick (1.5–5 cm) protective skin formed from layers of collagen positioned in a lattice structure. They generally eat leafy material, although their ability to ferment food in their hindgut allows them to subsist on more fibrous plant matter when necessary. Unlike other perissodactyls, the two African species of rhinoceros lack teeth at the front of their mouths, relying instead on their lips to pluck food. 26669

These are cloudy days and its often raining quite a bit for much of the last week, so birding activity is pretty low. And even those birds that are around, they are busy gathering food before the rain starts again and then will disappear into the trees and bushes.

These Woodshrikes too followed the same behaviour. We saw around 5 of them in a small 50 sq feet area - most of them on the ground looking for insects. I suspect many are juveniles and maybe their first year out of the nest. The size is visibly small and they were quite curious. I suspect this could be one too. I had never seen so many before in one group- so kept some distance watching them in action and taking a few shots.

This is the smallest of the Flamingo species found in parts of the Sub-Saharan Africa and Western India. Though they are tall by bird standards, they are just around 80-90 cms compared to around 110-150 cms tall Greater Flamingo. Visibly, the height is quite evident on sight.

These are near Threatened birds that are found in Semi-arid regions, specifically alkalline lakes that contain Algae on which these birds feed and derive their pink color. The deserts of Rann of Kutch in Gujarat host a large population of theses birds which are often prey to the large migrant raptors in the region. We sighted maybe 300-400+ of them in two different nearly dry lakes. The water was shallow and these Flamingoes were wading and dipping their beaks into the water. They then filter the water through their mouth using their tongues, and when the water flows out, the algae is caught in their bills.

Right on the edge of this lake, we saw an almost fully eaten carcass of a Flamingo, probably killed by a raptor - a Spotted Eagle or an Imperial Eagle.

A target bird for me for a very long time - especially this male, which I see often, but not very cooperative with my camera. We found it right opposite the Yellow throated bulbul in the previous shot.

The bird was ready for action and he would walk on the steep rocky slope looking for insects. The area had too many monkeys which were trying to grab these birds so it quickly disappeared into the bush.

The bird is named after the male species which is visibly dark blue and beautiful sporting a similar pattern as the female pictured above. The birds are found near rocky areas looking for insects, spiders and other small insects around the rocks.

Very rarely do I get a chance to revisit a place I had been to..but with some good few days of weather, we decided to head to the Lulworth Cove in Dorset.

I had bought the new Sigma 12-24mm along with the Lee Super Wide 150 system almost a month ago. But owing to the weather not playing ball for a while, I could not really test them out on the field.

Having said that, I have to say I am visibly pleased with the lens and the almost equally expensive Lee SW150 system. Sure the corner sharpness can be better but for most of the landscapes, you would definitely not be able to discern it even if you pixel pop.

The Lee SW150 system is definitely the best filter system that I have used so far from them. The big stopper does not have that annoying blue colour cast anymore which in itself was enough for me to jump up and down in joy.

There is no light leakage anywhere in the frame either. The only problem I could see is handling of the filter itself as it is really big and very difficult to handle. I do not know what precautions anyone can take as the filter is really massive.

The Durdle Door is one of my favourite locations in Dorset and though there weren't enough clouds to play about, the sunset itself was quite a calming experience...

A resident goose of the Indian subcontinent, they are found throughout the year in freshwater lakes and ponds.

They are visibly smaller than the other goose found in the region and sport a beautiful white and green wing color. I love to shoot them in flight, but they fly fast and are quite wary of humans.

Twee keer per dag komt DB vanuit Schwerte naar Menden om wagens te wisselen. Naast koperfabrikant KME gaat het vooral om kalkverkeer vanaf de groeve van Lhoist. De middagtrein van Menden naar Schwerte kon op 28 februari worden vastgelegd bij het dorpje Dellwig, zoals gebruikelijk met een 265, het sterkere zusje van de 261. Vooraan bevinden zich twee Samms'en met bakken die koper naar KME hebben gebracht, en een duidelijk beladen sleepje kalkwagens type Talns en Uacs. De fotografen mochten even later dan ook genieten van een laagje kalk :p Twee gele paaltjes werden achteraf weggepoetst.

Twice a day DB visits Menden from Schwerte. Apart from copper producer KME, most traffic is generated by the lime stone quarry of Lhoist. On February 28th, the afternoon train from Menden to Schwerte was awaited near the village of Dellwig. As usual, it was pulled by a Gravita Baureihe 265, the slightly stronger version of the Baureihe 261. Behind the loco are two Samms wagons which braught copper to KME, the other wagons are visibly loaded with lime stone from Lhoist. Two yellow posts were removed digitally.

Je ne savais pas qu’il pouvait faire si froid ici. Les gens se chauffaient avec des braseros dans la rue. J’ai rencontré cet homme alors qu’il discutait avec trois amis devant le mur d’une maison. Eux aussi avaient visiblement froid. Ils m’ont vu prendre des photos dans la rue et m'ont demandé ce que je faisais ? Je leur ai demandé s’ils voulaient que je les photographie ? Agra (India) - It was very cold at the beginning of December. I came to several times to Agra, but in the summer when it was very hot. I didn't know it could get so cold here. People were warming themselves with fires lit in the street. I met this man while he was talking with three friends in front of the wall of a house. They too were visibly cold. They saw me taking pictures on the street and came to ask me what I was doing? I asked them if they wanted me to photograph them? This portrait is one of the 3 photos taken during this meeting.

The Jaguar XK150 is a sports car produced by Jaguar between 1957 and 1961 as the successor to the XK140.

Initially it was only available in fixed head coupé (FHC) and drophead coupé (DHC) versions. The roadster without full weather equipment which had begun the XK line was launched as the XK150 OTS (open two-seater) in 1958. Minimal rear seats were fitted in the coupés. The open two-seater was fitted for the first time with wind-up windows in taller high-silled doors, but retained the very simple folding roof of its predecessors.

History

Announced in its home market in May 1957 the XK150 bore a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140 but was radically revised. Most visibly, a one-piece windscreen replaced the split screen, and the wing line carried higher and more streamlined at the doors. The widened bonnet opened down to the wings, and on the coupés the windscreen frame was moved forward 4 inches (102 mm) to make passenger access easier. The car was available at various times in Red, Pearl Grey, White, Indigo Blue, Claret, Cotswold Blue, Black, Mist Grey, Sherwood Green, Carmen Red, British Racing Green, Cornish Grey, and Imperial Maroon.

The XK150's dashboard came trimmed in leather, with walnut optional on all models. On the early drophead coupés, the aluminum center dash panel, which was discontinued after June 1958, had an X pattern engraving similar to the early 3.8 E-Type. Thinner doors gave more interior space. A little red light reminded the driver that the front parking lights, located atop the wings (fenders), were on.

Suspension and chassis were very similar to the XK140, with manual-only rack and pinion steering. The 3.4 litre DOHC straight-6 XK engine was similar to the XK140's, but a new "B" type cylinder head raised power to 180 SAE bhp at 5750 rpm.

The first closed and convertible XK150s were slower than their predecessors. After a twelve-month delay caused by the February 1957 factory fire, this deficit was corrected in the spring of 1958 with the March release of special equipment models fitted with disc brakes and more powerful SE engine. Twin 1.75-inch (44 mm) SU HD6 carburetors and a modified B type cylinder head with larger exhaust valves improved performance to 210 SAE bhp at 5500 rpm. While most export cars were SE models, a third option for the open two-seater featured an "S" engine with three 2-inch (51 mm) SU HD8 carburetors and a straight-port cylinder head boosting power to a claimed 250 SAE bhp.

In 1960 the 220 hp (164 kW; 223 PS) 3.8 liter engine fitted in the full-sized luxury Mark IX saloon since October 1958 became available. It was tuned to produce up to 265 hp (198 kW; 269 PS) in S models and propel an XK150 to 135 mph (217 km/h) and from 0–60 mph in around 7.0 seconds. Fuel economy was 18mpg. Four-wheel Dunlop 12 in (305 mm) disc brakes appeared for the first time as an option. Factory specification 6.00 × 16 inch Dunlop Road Speed tires or optional 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato CA67 radials could be fitted on either 16 × 5K½ solid wheels or optional 16 × 5K wire wheels.

This mother and her foal were grazing down by the side of the River Walkham at Merrivale on the west side of Dartmoor when several visitors got too close for her liking. She trotted swiftly up the slope, followed closely by her foal, until she felt they were at a safe distance, and then visibly relaxed and went back to grazing.

Jackpot! I sighted a total of 9 of these Kingfishers in one place which is an incredible record. 6 of them in one tree - though its a poor shot. The Pied Kingfishers are common to the small lakes and ponds across the countryside, though there are several concerns raised in the birding community about the dwindling number of sightings the last few years.

I think I sighted a family cloistered in a small tree. The 6 in that tree were visibly small, fighting with each other and not hunting yet. I suppose they were juveniles still learning to fly and hunt fish.

Diese Blaumeise war am Mühlgraben auf der Sonnenseite unterwegs um etwas zu futtern zu finden. Sie flog die Äste ab und jeder Ast wurde von vorne bis hinten inspiziert. Auch wenn man das nicht sieht, die Aufnahme entstand am selben Tag, wie die vorherigen Bilder mit dem Rauhreif. Aber an dieser Seite des Graben hatte die Sonne bereits den ganzen Schnee geschmolzen. Dort wimmelte es von hungrigen Vögeln, die nach einer frostigen Nacht den vorübergehenden Frühlingseindruck sichtlich zu schätzen und zu nutzen wussten.

Um das Bild besonders detailreich sehen zu können, drückt die Tasten l (kleines L) und F11. Beim vergrößern nur durch Anklicken gehen viele Details verloren.

This blue tit was on the sunny side of the mill trench to find something to eat. It jumped from branch to branch and each of them was inspected from front to back. Even if you can't see it, this picture was taken on the same day as the previous images with the hoarfrost. But on this side of the ditch the sun had already melted all the snow. There it swarmed with hungry birds, which after a freezing night visibly appreciated the temporary impression of spring.

Meet Stumpy. She's the only one of the chamois with an absolutely unique look, due to a slightly deformed left horn. In direct contrast to the others she is visibly smaller, but seems otherwise perfectly normal and healthy. I encounter her quite regularly as she often keeps watch in front or behind her herd. Luckily she seems to have come to the conclusion that the strange human with the camera is not overly dangerous. I try to detect unique features in the other chamois too so I can tell them apart, but I'm not yet sure that it's possible.

Vor ein paar Tagen war ich noch einmal an dem See an dem ich im Frühling die junge Hybridente fotografiert hatte. Ich wollte mal sehen, was aus ihr geworden ist. Und siehe da, es gab hier sogar einen Hybridenerpel und ein Weibchen! Hier ein Portrait vom Erpel, das Weibchen zeige ich später noch.

An diesem Tag gab es seit langer Zeit ein paar Sonnenstunden und sowohl Menschen, als auch die Tiere konnten es sichtlich genießen.

A few days ago I was again at the lake where I photographed the young hybrid duck in spring. I wanted to see what became of her. Lo and behold, there was even a hybrid drake and a female here! Here is a portrait of the drake, I will show the female later. On this day there had been a few hours of sunshine for a long time and both people and animals were visibly enjoying it.

(Probably a cross between a mallard and a domestic duck)

One of the several species of wagtails that winter in India during the winters. This species migrates from Europe, Central Asia and China to India during the cold season. They are a lot more uncommon than some of the other wagtails like the Gray Wagtail, Western Yellow Wagtail or the White Wagtail which can be sighted in certain habitats and places easily.

The Citrine Wagtail behavior is similar to the other wagtails in terms of hunting, but they are often seen on perches like this unlike the other two wagtails which are mostly seen on rocks or on ground hunting insects. Also these seem visibly a tad bigger compared to the other two here - I could be wrong though.

Male is unmistakable, with his orange breast, belly, and tail and ultramarine-blue head and back. Female is brown with no wingbars and an orange tail and lower belly; watch out for the unique upside-down black ‘T’ on her tail. The species breeds in brushy open subalpine areas and winters in foothills in scrubby areas, field edges, and gardens. Like many other redstarts, often perches visibly, bobbing tail up and down. Song is a series of pleasant warbles and bubbly buzzing. Calls include a distinctive wet ticking, often preceded by a quiet whistled note.

A favorite bird of mine and in target for a long time. Found it in the most unusual of places casually relaxing in the hot sun. And then lo behold the sun went behind some clouds and the shots were fantastic.

This is considered a rare sighting in much of the state / country, but in this region, they are present in dozens. I was quite happy with the sightings.

A pretty large shrike, visibly larger than the other shrikes in that we often see around. The bird is truly black, white and grey without any other visible color on it - much like the era of black and white films. We found it perched on small shrubs from where it would dive to the ground or to a plant to catch something - often an insect or caterpillar. When we tried to get a tad closer, she flew onto the power cable where it rested for quite a while!

A 3 day visit to a wonderful sanctuary yielded almost nothing except for some birds that I have seen before. It was raining cats and dogs in my hometown, while it was quite hot and too bright in the sanctuary - due to that there were little interesting there.

'Pink Lawn' iceplant. Nottingham Dr. Cambria. One of the hundreds of Delosperma cultivars.

Since my last 'Pink Lawn' post was well-received, here's the more common, darker-pink Delosperma that people use here. It is spectacular on a sunny day! This planting is on a corner lot, and I think the rocks you can see in the top left are a a drainage, likely from a downspout. We got something like 35 inches of rain this winter, and maybe more here, since this planting is maybe 200 ft from the ocean. I'm sure these plants are good at fog-harvesting too. Our signature Cambria Pines get at least half of their annual water from the fogs!

As do the Redwoods a few miles north, up the coast. They make it to just about the Monterey/SLO county line, in our current climate. When I last visited this southernmost grove, it was visibly struggling. Not this year! At least the ones that weren't swept away in the floods . . .

Ares not only enjoys playing with his UFO, but also feels visibly at home with him in all other respects!

Yesterday afternoon, after a long time, I hiked along the "Kleine Kyll" near Manderscheid/ Volcanic Eifel and was inspired by the idyll of this river valley.

After a few years ago, the nature around the "Germanen bridge" after windfall and tree-cutting work had pulled strongly, it has now recovered visibly.

The new bridge and a "mindfulness trail" of 6 km invite many visitors to this quiet valley, which offers a lot of further hiking and refreshing possibilities.

Gestern Nachmittag wanderte ich nach langer Zeit wieder an der Kleinen Kyll bei Manderscheid/Vulkaneifel entlang und war von der Idylle dieses Flusstales begeistert.

Nachdem vor einigen Jahren die Natur um die Germanenbrücke nach Windbruch und Baumfällarbeiten stark in Mitleidenschaft gezogen war, hat sie sich inzwischen sichtbar erholt.

Die neue Brücke und ein "Achtsamkeitspfad" von 6 km laden viele Besucher in dieses stille Tal, das viele weitere Wander- und Einkehrmöglichkeiten bietet.

It rises abruptly and stands nearly 10,000 ft above the surrounding terrain. On a clear winter day, snowy Mount Shasta can be seen from the floor of the Central Valley 140 miles to the south. The mountain has attracted the attention of poets, authors, and presidents.

The mountain consists of four overlapping volcanic cones that have built a complex shape, including the main summit and the prominent satellite cone of 12,330 ft Shastina, which has a visibly conical form.

If Shastina were a separate mountain, it would rank as the fourth-highest peak of the Cascade Range (after Mount Rainier, Rainier's Liberty Cap, and Mount Shasta itself).

Pooka, a female Cavachon (Cavalier King Charles-Bichon mix) is visibly distressed that no one will play ball with her as all the attention is being directed toward a visiting grandchild.

We had some rare sunshine today, yay! A the moment the flood plains are filling both with water and with wild geese that were visibly enjoying the sun as well. Most of the birds here are greylags with the occasional Egyptian goose in between.

A reworked and enhanced image......

After negotiating the curves through Trent Junction, one-time celebrity DB Tug no. 60074 'Teenage Spirit' visibly powers up as she wheels the 3.41pm Kinsgsbury - Lindsey Oil Refinery (6E59) discharged tanks over Meadow Lane Crossing.

The shot was taken in the rain, as evidenced by the windscreen wiper, and you can glimpse the back of the train just beneath the flyover catching a few signal reflections.

I took this shot some 12 minutes after the recent upload 'Bokeh blues', by which time the fast disappearing light had already lost another stop. Luckily, even at 400mm, the image stabilisation did a fabulous job and I was able to bag this hand-held at 1/60s. The then new EOS 5D and lens set-up, literally acquired just a couple of weeks beforehand, got a pretty big capability tick.

Seit Tagen ist der Schiffsverkehr eingestellt. Der Kanal, zumindest ein Teil, gehört den Enten. Hier an der Schleuse fühlen sie sich sichtbar wohl.

Shipping traffic has been suspended for days. The canal, at least part of it, belongs to the ducks. Here at the sluice you feel visibly at ease.

I was lucky in spotting quite a number of chamois yesterday. I feel like they're starting to recognize me as they neither retreated nor gave their warning call (which is generally described as whistling, but in reality it's a sort of hissing sound - a bit like a Eurasian jay). I sat down on a tree stump and some of them became visibly curios, a few even abandoning their habit of always ensuring there’s a tree between them and me. This female stood about 20 meters away from me and watched me for a few minutes. I try to make them get used to me before they have kids in late spring, and yesterday felt like a first real success :-)

The combination of the sun's rays, the cloud formations, and the natural elements represents a serene and dramatic atmospheric condition, typical of twilight hours. This time of day offers a magical mix of natural light in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Oenothera biennis, the common evening-primrose, a species of flowering plant in the family Onagraceae

Other common names: evening star, sundrop, weedy evening primrose, German rampion, hog weed, King's cure-all and fever-plant.

Blooming lasts from late spring to late summer. The flowers are hermaphrodite, produced on a tall spike and only last until the following noon. They open visibly fast every evening producing an interesting spectacle, hence the name "evening primrose".

Today, the evening primrose is mainly known as garden plant and as medicinal plant in specialized sectors.However, almost all parts of the evening primrose are edible and medically or cosmetically applicable.

El 18 2256 hat am 10.06.2013 mit Rt 47 Oslo S - Trondheim S gerade den Aufstieg auf die Hochebene hinter sich gebracht, als der Zug um 21:30 Uhr die zwei Fotografen bei Durchquerung der "Fokstumyra"- Sümpfe passiert. Diese waren sichtlich erfreut über die im Streiflicht leuchtende Wagenkomposition im "Tomatsuppe"- Design.

Long summer evenings make it possible to take sunny pictures on the Norwegian Dovrefjell even at late hours. El 18 2256 with Rt 47 Oslo S - Trondheim S has just completed the ascent to the plateau on 10.06.2013, when the train passes the two photographers crossing the "Fokstumyra" wetlands at 9:30 pm. They were visibly pleased with the "tomato soup" design of the carriages, which were brightly shining in the grazing light.

Since what can a cat do

in an empty apartment?

Climb the walls?

Rub up against the furniture?

Nothing seems different here

but nothing is the same.

Nothing’s been moved

but there’s more space.

And at nighttime no lamps are lit.

Footsteps on the staircase,

but they’re new ones.

The hand that puts fish on the saucer

has changed, too.

Something doesn’t start

at its usual time.

and stubbornly stays disappeared.

Every closet’s been examined.

Every shelf has been explored.

Excavations under the carpet turned up nothing.

A commandment was even broken:

papers scattered everywhere.

What remains to be done.

Just sleep and wait.

Just wait till he turns up,

just let him show his face.

Will he ever get a lesson

on what not to do to a cat.

Sidle toward him

as if unwilling

and ever so slow

on visibly offended paws,

and no leaps or squeals at least to start.

Four Prinia species sighted on one road - exciting! They were all sighted on a 100 feet stretch and were just so loud with their beautiful songs. The perches were amazing and just had to wait for the bird to get into the right place.

Jungle prinia's are a warbler species that are the hulky twin of their city cousins - the plain Prinia. Both the species look very similar (I don't know the difference and ebird states something very similar), except for one thing - the size. The Jungle one is visibly bigger and that is what I use for identification.
