Gossip's Café on Old Steine ( "Gossip in the Steine" formerly Frankensteine's Café) - Brian Eno Speaker Flowers Sound Installation at Marlborough Houseformerly Frankensteine's Café) - Looking towards the facade of Marlborough House.
See also the related "Brian Eno 77 Million Paintings" set, - an exhibition that ran concurrently at Fabrica Gallery during the festival.
This image is part of a set of photos of the Brian Eno Speaker Flowers Sound Installation at Marlborough House (and also of the house itself) on the Old Steine, Brighton, East sussex, UK. The exhibition was presented by Fabrica Art Gallery, as part of the Brighton Festival, May 2010. The installation includes the poems and words of Rick Holland.
The Grade I listed house was built circa 1765 , purchased at one time by the Duke of Marlborough, and substantially remodelled by the Scottish architect Robert Adam.

Some of the photos in this set are presented in multiple versions made possible using HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography - these variations are displayed with more than one exposure, gamma, "local adaptation" compression or "unsharp mask" process.
Many rooms had their windows screened using coloured Crêpe paper / tissue paper. This gave their illumination a colour caste - which has been exaggerated (or neutralised) on an image by image basis. The actual experience of the coloured light was one of only a slight and soft hue.
In some instances the photos have modified to give an architectural, classical, "two-point" perspective - with forced, parallel verticals.

Make your virtual home in Dunwich, a fun, inclusive, educational, sim with lovely rural, New England charm. The theme is based on the works of early 20th Century weird fiction author H.P. Lovecraft. We have recently done a full rebuild, although Dunwich is proud to have been established on the grid way back in 2008. We are delighted to offer entertainments including our mysterious hedge maze, our monster hunting range, our 7Seas fishing area, and a pub with games. Events include zombie outbreak shooting competitions, dances, parties, and ghost story nights. Contact Candace Bethune for more details.
Christmas is almost here. I work a bit toward getting serious things done, but have to rest a lot, so many times when I sit, I draw and paint. This fellow was fun, but I played with him too long.

Strobist: Canon S5 IS with a shutter of 1/6, f/2.7. 36mm (35mm equivalent). The onboard flash set at 1/4 power and deflected through a semi-transparent plastic cereal bowl. The subject was lit from behind using a Metz Mecablitz 28 CS-2 optical slave flash manually set for 1.0m and using the OEM wide-angle diffuser mounted on a tripod approximately chest high. This flash was pointed at the subject.
The purpose of all of the lighting contortions is to light the subject without overpowering the projected surfaces behind him. He was standing approximately 6 feet (2 meters) in front of the screens.

My friend Michael Naimark is exploring new ideas for virtual reality experiences, in collaboration with Google and other researchers. To discuss this work, we got together with two other colleagues, Steve Gano and Jim McKee -- with whom we worked at the Apple Multimedia Lab in the eighties, pushing the envelope on related questions.
We started with a tour of the historic Sentinel Building in North Beach, home of American Zoetrope -- where Francis Coppola worked on many cinematic masterpieces like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. We checked out the underground screening room and sound mixing room where some of that work took place, then headed upstairs to Michael and Jim’s studios, for a wonderful conversation about the new VR frontier.
Michael and his colleagues are researching how people are represented in virtual reality. Their first experiment at Google’s “Big Chairs” Park led to some helpful guidelines on how to film people for VR, by using different camera angles and distances.
They’re also investigating ‘hyper-images’ that resemble a group of people, but that are shot at different times and composited together to create both ‘credible’ and ‘incredible’ pictures. To enable more experiments like these, Michael is developing ‘IMU VR’, a new type of camera that could make it easier for communities to tell their stories in VR. More on this later.
It was great to reconnect with my colleagues and brainstorm these ideas together. It felt like the good old days, and the creative juices were flowing all over again ...
