I wanted to be on the Beach when the sun rose on Easter Morning. About five minutes before sunrise on that morning, or around 6:45 AM EDT, I took this photo of the moon still shining over Chesapeake Bay Beach looking west in the direction of Lynnhaven Inlet.
James River State Park offers kayaks and canoes for rental (as well as intertubes). Park visitors can choose between two- or six- mile treks down the river.
Then I turned a little to the right from the previous photo to take this photo of the shore line at the Park to show how much the Reservoir level had gone down.
My Postcard series is my take on the modern version of the postcard. It's normally one picture with a narrative to capture and share an experience with you, the reader. Shenandoah River State Park, during our spring 2023 weekend trip to the Winchester, VA area to visit some Virginia State Parks.
While walking back to the Campground on the north side of Shore Drive, I took this photo of the State Park Sign located just past the check in gate at the end of the road where you either turned left to go to the Park Office or turned right to go into the campground.
Virginia Beach VA The park is where English colonists first landed in 1607. Native American canoes, Colonial settlers, 20th-century schooners and modern cargo ships have navigated the park's waterways. Its cypress swamps were a source of fresh water for merchant mariners, pirates and military ships during the War of 1812. Legend has it that Blackbeard hid in the Narrows area of the park, and interior waterways were used by Union and Confederate patrols during the Civil War. Built in part by an all African-American Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933-1940, the park is a National Natural Landmark and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
As Virginia's most-visited state park, it's an oasis within urban Virginia Beach. The park has 20 miles of trails and 1.5 miles of sandy Chesapeake Bay beach frontage. First Landing offers many recreational and educational activities and has many unusual habitats including bald cypress swamps, lagoons and maritime forest, as well as rare plants and wildlife.
May 2021. First Landing State Park (formerly Seashore State Park) offers recreational opportunities at Cape Henry in the independent city of Virginia Beach, Virginia. As the first planned state park of Virginia, First Landing is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Seashore State Park Historic District. A portion of the park is listed as a National Natural Landmark as part of the Seashore Natural Area.
The state park is near the site of the first landing on April 26, 1607 of Christopher Newport and the Virginia Company colonists before establishing themselves at Jamestown.
