November 2022. Delaplane Virginia. This 1,860-acre park has scenic views, woodlands and the rolling pastures of a historic farm that captures the colonial through modern life of the Crooked Run Valley.
Holliday Lake State Park features an expansive beach with a designated swimming area, as well as opportunities to canoe, kayak, and paddleboat.
Off to the left of the previous photo is this second three bedroom cabin under construction. This one is not being constructed as handicap accessible, only the other three bedroom cabin and the Lodge.
Moving a little further across the trail bridge, I then stopped to take this photo of Swift Creek looking downstream past the boat launch ramp on the far right.
Here is a view of the Conference Center from the shoreline, looking at the Hurt and Latham Conference Rooms.
Belle Isle has seven miles of shoreline on the Northern Neck's Rappahannock River and provides access to Mulberry and Deep creeks. The park lets visitors explore a wide variety of tidal wetlands interspersed with farmland and upland forests.
The diverse habitats found in the park provide homes to many predator birds, such as blue herons, osprey, hawks and bald eagles. White-tailed deer, turkeys, groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels, moles, reptiles and amphibians are also common. There are eight distinct types of wetlands within the park.
