3.2MP HP Photosmart M307 from 2004

There are those who say that taking an infrared image on a gloomy winter day is daft because IR photography needs light, lots of it.

And guess what? The people who say this are absolutely correct.

On our way home from my in-laws, we stopped to check out a waterfall. The light was gone, the sky was socked in with clouds, but I decided to try a photo anyway. I got some good ideas for compositions, so I'm looking forward to returning with better conditions now.

Canon PowerShot G11

Yesterday was a gray and dreary day. Light was flat, temps were starting to drop low, and I debated going out for a while. I finally decided to give it a go. While conditions certainly didn't help, I did find a few new compositions to return to on better days. This is one such possibility.

One nice thing about these small sensor digicams is that you hardly have to worry about depth of field for landscapes! I've been really impressed with these things and have had a ton of fun with them so far. Pretty nice to have in a pocket on a hike!

While looking for macro subjects on the trail a grasshopper jumped away as soon as he noticed me. I grab the camera and went after him, but it took me a lot of time to get a clear view and a good angle. When I went back on my walk I realize that I'm the real young grasshopper jumping around not knowing the full powers and magic of the Florida woodlands.

Following on from my recent status update this is one of the old pictures I found that I took on my first ever digital camera. It was a Kyocera Finecam M410R and was 4 MB. It was 2004.

This is a view looking down a valley in the Yorkshire Dales in northern England. This part of the country is famous for it's stone walls, stone barns, fields and meadows.

It is a very beautiful part of the country and I really should go back there sometime.

Mimosa pudica also called sensitive plant, sleepy plant, action plant, touch-me-not, Mimosa Strigillosa, sunshine mimosa, and powderpuff. Is a creeping annual or perennial flowering plant in Southern USA, the compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched or shaken, defending themselves from harm, and re-open a few minutes later. Also attracts butterflies and serves as a host plant for butterfly larvae; and an effective ground cover because it spreads very quickly

This was taken with a 2003 Leica D-Lux, which is not to be confused with the much later Leica type 109, which I do not own.

I certainly prefer it to go off-scale on the high end rather than the low end.

My first digital camera from around 1999. I remember going to Tottenham Court Road to get it from the only UK stockist. At the time. I think, I paid around £800 for it with all the bits I had to buy with it to process the images. Fuji MX 2900 zoom digital Camera, focal length 35-105 mm 35mm equivalent. Photographed with my latest camera which is a Leica Q2 Monochrom.

4.2 litre E-Type Jag in British racing green.

The vintage digital camera does not produce very sharp pictures and there is a lot of noise. The outcome is a rather film like rendering.

Another shot from down on the south bank of the Thames, this time looking over to the ever-expanding roster of quirkily-shaped office buildings in the City.

In the centre of the frame here you can see the latest addition - 8 Bishopsgate, which is still being built, and nestles between 22 Bishopsgate and the Cheesegrater ...

A discussion with another collector on Flickr made me remember I had this old Digilux 4.3 from 2000 and should give it some exercise. Luckily it takes AA batteries, so that#s one stumbling block removed.

The date and time in the EXIF data is of course completely wrong. I couldn't be bothered to go to the setup menu.

Shot with a made in 2000 Leica Digilux 4.3, aka Fujifilm Finepix 4700 Zoom.

We had the briefest rain shower I think I have ever experienced today. It went by so quick, we didn't even notice it! I happened to want to play around with this Minolta lens I picked up, and caught some of the water on leaves.

Waxing moon and evening star (Venus) on 29 December 2019, exactly one day after this shot was taken.

What difference one day makes is easily answered! It makes about 13 degrees of difference in the position of the moon.

It was just a bit earlier in the day than with that other shot so the ISO value is lower here and that really shows. Pity it's such a hassle to select the settings on a compact camera.

I seem to be stuck on night shots lately. I guess that's appropriate since it's dark by the time I get off work and the days have been dull and grey. When I got out of work the other evening, the moon rising above this cloud bank caught my eye.

Finally getting my health back into a place where I'm riding my mountain bike again. I'm terribly out of shape and struggling to get very far, but enjoying being out on the trails!

I'm bringing cameras with me to make the recovery stops more pleasant, haha. It's nice to slow down and see what's around me, too.

Playing with these CCD cameras has got me re-evaluating things. With the rising costs of film and the extra workload of dev and scan, I may go back to saving film for family events and bigger trips out. I'm having a blast using these digicams and love the look of the photos.

The images with this ancient digital camera are surprisingly clean. Fujifilm SuperCCD sensors were really good. Pity they stopped making them.

And no, I don't know why Leica doesn't include the exposure time in the EXIF data.

The dp2s is a point and shoot camera with a 20.7 x 13.8 mm 5 MP Foveon X3 sensor. It's actually pretty good. Certainly when compare to other point & shoot camera from its era, but even compared to modern cameras. The sensor is large for a compact camera. Sigma billed it as 14 MP because unlike Bayer sensors, it does not interpolate between adjacent pixels as the red, green and blue sensitive layers are stacked sandwich-wise. It must have been rather expensive when it came out.

There is a dial to select between M, S A and P modes and it has a AEL button - which is not at all the standard for compact cameras.

Even the autofocus can be switched off and there is a dial for manual focusing. So if you want you can operate this camera fully manually. If focuses down to 28 cm. Typically for all Sigma dp cameras, the lens, which has a focal length of 24.2 mm, is very good.

The body, as is also the case with the later DP Merrill cameras, is made of metal, not plastic, so the camera has a nice, solid feel to it. Compared to the dp Merrills, the battery lasts a lot longer.
