The tree was dead, the vine was red! The warm light brought out the gold of the bark ... the only sound was the click of my camera!

Yellowing maple vine amongst a green forest.

While in the Edna Valley vineyard a few weeks ago, I took note of the signs at the beginning of the rows. But now I'm not sure which was which, so these may or may not be Chardonnay grapes! (I should have photographed the signs)

Lost between the vines

In fact, this is a withered vine leaf. But it could also be a view from an aeroplane of an autumnal river estuary.

This was taken at the foot of the rock of Sulutre showing vineyards belonging to the wine area of Pouilly-Fuissé . I love how the vines flow along the lines of the gentle slopes of the Maconnais hills

This is an interesting story. I was directed to this pole by a Flickr pal from three states away. On my last power pole photo, he said to me that there was a pole covered in vines at the corner of Courthouse Road and White Chapel Road. The other day when I made a dump run I took a detour and went by this place. He was right and there was the pole covered in vines. Imagine my surprise.

I managed to find it on Google Earth, but I couldn’t tell it was a power pole. I think he is a warlock. Thank you Equinox27. This one is for you. www.flickr.com/photos/equinox27/

Near Hollywood, California.

This shows part of a trumpet vine which grows along a wall on the terrace and I've been meaning to take a photo of the beautiful flowers for a little while as this year it has been resplendent. These trumpet vines are very popular in the region. By this time last year all the flowers had been and gone because of the intense heat but this year it has flowered time after time as the heat hasn't been so intense this summer. We had one or two days where it was nudging 40c but that was the exception. Fortunately, we've escaped the terrible heatwaves they've been experiencing in Italy and other parts of the southern Mediterranean.

Here in Holand, we call this 'trompletbloem' (Pandorea jasminoides). Behind it the plane trees of our dike. "It is a woody climber with pinnate leaves that have three to nine egg-shaped leaflets, and white or pink trumpet-shaped flowers that are red and hairy inside." Source Wiki.

We imported this one from the Sotavento some 8 years ago and it's going strong. Ah, the changing climate...

A Bower vine flower is here.

Have a great week my friends. I've been enjoying the woods of late as the weather here slowly starts acting like Autumn. ~Sam

Here's a "tasty" image for you today of some Red Vines. No, not the candy, I'm afraid. These vines love to grow along chainlink fences, but create the most delightful subjects come autumn. It's not just the brilliant red color (though that helps), but also the great contrast of the dark fence that creates a great amount of contrast. Though the focus system of the 5D Mark IV doesn't seem radically different on paper, it is actually vastly improved in every area, and it's a treat to finally have DPAF on a full frame body. This image was featured in Flickr's Explore at position 17

In the old city center of Maribor, also called Lent, in front of the House of the Oldest Grapevine, grows over 450-year-old Žametovka or Modra kavčina vine variety. It is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest grapevine in the world, which still bears fruit annually.

The Oldest Grapevine was planted by the end of the Middle Ages when the Turks sieged Maribor. It survived despite the wrathful battles around it since it was once part of the city walls. Even the fires in the late Middle Ages could not destroy it, not even the vine louse, which caused most of the vineyards in Europe to wither, nor the allied bombing of the city.

Its descendants grow on almost every continent and in many Slovenian cities and towns. To honor the Oldest Grapevine, several scenic wine roads were created, and numerous wineries in Maribor and its surrounding regions were established.
