This is a Glass Slide showing the village homes in whitley. It features the row of houses and a group of young girls.
The slide is from some time between the late 19th and early 20th century. It was taken by the Tynemouth Photographer M. Auty.
The slide would have been viewed through a Magic Lantern, an early type of image projector.

A brief video of a trio of local kids playing with a rudimentary home built hand cart in Pharung Village near Ukhrul in Manipur, NE India. (my Facebook viewers will fint this video is a separate Videos folder under my profile). My, how refreshing it was to see kids playing the way kids actually should, unlike urban kids who are obsessed with social media and their smartphones and video games even from this tender age! These little gentlemen here may have very little, still they were happy- happy to be contended- smiling and having a lot of fun. They were mighty amused at our fascination with them, and must have wondered why this crazy man is taking so many pictures with a large camera and with their smartphones. My son and I are here to attend a wedding- the bridal shower is due to start in a bit, and since we have time, we are walking around taking in the sights and exploring the village.
