After watching the excellent restored release of 'The Third Man' at the cinema, I was inspired to revisit my photos from a trip to Vienna back in 2006. Here's a shot I took (with my old Ixus) of the Ferris Wheel which famously featured in the film.

The Vienna State Opera (German: Wiener Staatsoper) is an Austrian opera house and opera company based in Vienna, Austria. It was originally called the Vienna Court Opera (Wiener Hofoper). In 1920, with the replacement of the Habsburg Monarchy by the First Austrian Republic, it was renamed the Vienna State Opera. The members of the Vienna Philharmonic are recruited from its orchestra. My work luckily took me to Vienna in September 2016. Some light relief inbetween scientific presentations on the spinal cord was much needed, so on occasion I headed out into the city armed with the camera.
It was my first visit to Vienna. The buildings were very impressive in stature and variety. I was almost exclusively shooting with the 16-35mm F4 IS lens, which made a pleasant change from the portrait lenses of late. Good to try a little architectural photography, although I have a lot to learn. I tried to pick out some interesting shapes, or different views, and where possible have attempted to steer clear of simple postcard shots, albeit I realise some clearly fall into this category !
As ever, I really welcome constructive criticism of my work. I am sure most of those viewing these photos will have more experience than I do, and I like the idea of soaking up your views / feedback and trying to turn that into making me a better photographer.
This building (1873-83) was designed in Greek style. The first Austrian Republic was declared here in 1918.
