The term “B-roll” comes from the world of film where editors used to use an “A” and a “B” roll of footage, before the digital age changed everything. It is alternative footage intercut with the main shot. B-roll shots are similar to cutaways in that they help break up the static interview shots.
It can make telling a story much easier and compelling with added footage. As a general rule B-Roll can include animation, graphical elements, photographs and extra footage.
Wiki sheds some more light on the term and it's usage.
"The term B-roll originates from a particular solution to the problem of visible splices in the narrow film stock used in 16 mm film. 35 mm film was wide enough to hide splices, but 16 mm film revealed the splices as flaws in the picture.
Until the mid-1970s, teams shot both main A-roll and secondary B-roll footage on 16 mm film. Sound was integrated onto the film by way of a magnetic stripe at the edge of the film. The A-roll and B-roll scenes, shot at 24 frames per second, were converted to the television frame rate of 30 fps using a telecine system consisting of two film projectors, one showing the main A-roll footage and the other showing the B-roll. The sound from the A-roll footage was used, or sound from narration or voiceover, while images without sound from the B-roll were intercut as desired.
In the 1980s, the term B-roll was adopted for linear video editing using at least two video tape machines. Traditionally, the tape decks in an edit suite were labeled by letter, with the 'A' deck being the one containing the main tape upon which the main action material was shot. The 'B' deck was used to run tapes that held additional footage such as establishing shots, cutaway shots, and any other supporting footage. The sound was usually taken from the A deck alone, so that the B deck provided video without sound. As linear editing systems were unable to dissolve between clips on the same tape, an edit decision list (EDL) was used to mark clips as "A-roll" and "B-roll" to indicate source machines."
For Luna anyway. And in a way, us. Stress reliever. Deborah is swamped with year end rush. Apparently it sneaks up on everyone, and then it is an emergency. I my self have multiple video edits to do, but have chosen not to do them today.
I think this 50mm lens I am using is kaput. A blue orb has appeared, and has rendered some of my photos that I had taken on Christmas no good. So I am now saving my pennies for a new nifty 50.

Just like you did when you were growing up!

I've danced on the pole again^^ I apologize for translation errors in the lyrics, mistakes in the video editing and I bought a cheap pole, unfortunately you can see that very well in the video. Quality has its price. For this video I chose my home sim, the Mita Beach, because here I could position the pole freely and I love the water^^ In the background you can see the lighthouse, I love it! It symbolizes peace and safety to me.
If you ever get bored, visit this wonderful place of peace and quiet.

Had issues with my computer yesterday, trying to download Gopro video editing software, never did get it to work, had Dell support online for all most 5 hours, downloaded a new video driver. So just had to process a photo thru all my programs to just make sure everything is still working :) Just hate computer issues so much stuff to go wrong, oh well seems to still be working - for now :) Stressful :)

In this video, I dabbled in shuffle dancing. I received this HUD as a gift from the lovely Manu, and I tried to put it all into a nice video. I didn't quite succeed; the lyrics say we're dancing at night, but it's daytime. HAHA* I chose the club "Dance Island." At that time of day, the club was almost empty, and I just loved the dance floor.^^ As always, I apologize for any translation errors in the lyrics and my poor video editing; I'm still learning. This is the first time, I have posted a photo from my family. My daughther Eylul (13 yrs) has a talent for drawing. I had shared some photos, which we draw togther in a ninja turtle photo earlier ago. Since her teenager period, she is currently more concentrated on her video edits in Youtube, than her drawing. That was a night drawing in Anzac Cove, with torch light of one of her own-style..

During our stay in Bluff, Utah we explored both sides of Comb Ridge. We have barely scratched the surface of all there is to see in this area. Comb Ridge is an 80 mile long monocline running north and south. The west side is a cliff and the east side is steeply tilted and is fractured by many eroded canyons which often shelter ancestral Puebloan ruins. The name comes from the jagged appearance of the ridge which is similar in shape to a rooster comb.
Wilbur and I are new to drone flying. Hopefully we can figure out video editing too!

Not much posting lately. I have spent the last four months doing some heavy video editing at work, so that has had some admittedly somewhat negative impact on me posting images here. However, now that that the spring is fully under way and the summer is just around the corner, I will aim to find my groove again.

Went to the Illinois Railway Museum (IRM) where our friend engineered the Shay #5 Steam Locomotive.
Built in 1929 by the Lima Locomotive Works it was put in service by J. Neils Lumber Company logging the Northwest. Restored in 2018 at the IRM.
The IRM is a great place with lots of old trains. Well worth a visit! I'll post more pix later
