This was February 2019, when we were staying with my precious son Karl. Today, for the first time in almost 3 weeks, I got to videocall him, with the help of one of the wonderful nurses at Stoke rehab hospital. He has had some terrible episodes in the last couple of weeks, since Covid stopped visiting, but NOTHING will ever take away the joy of us seeing each other today!

Tuesday has become a regular #videocall with my wee mum. It’s always nice to catch up with her over a video call; especially whilst all this virus rubbish is going on. She’s doing well, and getting out for daily walks. She’s had her first vaccine, thank goodness. I asked her if I could draw her during the video call this evening, and she said yes, bless her. ❤️
This drawing is a bit wobbly, I’d had some wine, and I was trying to have a conversation at the same time as drawing, lol. It looks like she’s telling a joke very straight, and I’m guffawing before the punchline! 😆

FaceAche™
Leo and me were very excited as today we got to have a FaceAche™ call with Mr Duck! Now that Alistair has an iPhone too, he sometimes lets Mr Duck borrow it and he can make video calls. We had a lovely chat and sorted out when he will be visiting us tomorrow! It's even more fun than sending text messages. Ah, the wonders of technology...

Initial notes: Facebook super-dominant digital environment; students more resistant to use of Facebook for study-related purposes than in other student focus groups; Twitter little used; most active bloggers (mainly images but some text); many had YouTube and Flickr accounts to which they uploaded content; YouTube and Flickr a valued source of visual data and 'how-to' guides; all mobile users; only 2 smartphones - HTC and iPhone - but 2 iPod Touch users; Blackboard site valued although could improve useability.
Strategic users of digital technology: e.g. because it offered free tools of value such as Skype for videocalls and YouTube and Spotify for free music. Regular users of Wikipedia to check words and names of artists, musicians and filmmakers but aware of tension between its content and peer-reviewed academic work.010.
so after many "fails" this was the most decent screenshot, lol. there are funnier ones, believe me, but I'll let Thorpe upload them if he wants.
It was a bit rocky but it worked out in the end!

During lunch Simon and Tom decided to check if 3g video calls still work. Because that's a normal thing to do.
