This is our home away from home tonight. We are in Ferndale, CA. Ferndale is really a Victorian town. If you watch movies you saw the town in Outbreak and more recently in the Jim Carry movie, The Majestic.
I will confess one thing. The sky was stolen from another photo from our trip up here. The coast of California is notoriously foggy and it has been overcast all day. I just did not want to have a gray sky, so now it is blue.
This Victorian Eclectic courthouse features Second Empire elements. It was designed by the architectural firm T.J. Tolan and Son and was built in 1882 by Hiram Iddings. The intricate stonework was crafted by stonecutter T. McIntosh. The structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 with the Warsaw Courthouse Square Historic District.

Warsaw is a lovely town with some real salt-of-the-earth people. I thank the people of Warsaw for the kindness I received while I was here.

The day I shot this house it was drizzling rain and very overcast. Also two annoying power lines swept right across the upper portion of the scene. Got rid of the power lines and added a dash of sunshine. There were many more historic homes in the area (far western suburb of Chicago) but all scenes were plagued by power lines. Don't know if I feel up to cloning out any more power lines so posting just one.
!SO 100 B&W film. Before I started using Digital cameras I did a lot of work using Analog Cameras. These images are from my Victorian Cemetery collection.
One of the most photographed locations in San Francisco, Alamo Square's famous "postcard row" at Hayes and Steiner Streets is indeed a visual treat. A tight, escalating formation of Victorian houses have survived the 1906 earthquake and is back-dropped by downtown skyscrapers, providing a stunning contrast.

Love this wonderful staircase at the Victoria Art Gallery in Liverpool. Designed by the eminent architect Alfred Waterhouse in 1892, the Victoria Building was the first in the University of Liverpool’s estate. Its highly detailed, decorative style gave rise to the term ‘redbrick university’, but when the institution had outgrown its confines and moved many functions elsewhere, the grand old building became underused and undervalued.
Led by Professor Kelvin Everest, the university had aspirations for the building to house collections and accommodate the Educational Opportunities Department. They wanted the space to be opened up to the people of Liverpool and create a new visitor attraction to coincide with the city’s status as the European Capital of Culture in 2008.

A client bought and renovated a beautiful Victorian house, they wanted photos for the rooms of Victorian (style) flowers, portrait format, but of course I tried all kinds after I'd finished the commission.

A cold night, but fantastic clear and dark skies in the Victorian High Country. Manipulating small buttons with gloves on proved a challenge at times, but the sheer number of stars visible more than made up for it.
This image is made from about 80 images stacked together to show the movement of the stars. The hut was lit with a small torch.
A quick visit to Clevedon today and, as luck would have it, a little spare time coinciding with a high tide combined with some lovely watery autumn sunlight.

Delta, BC Canada
‘Burrvilla’ is an elaborate and sophisticated two storey plus basement wood-frame Queen Anne Revival style residence. It is part of the Deas Island Park heritage grouping and is situated near the Delta Agricultural Hall and Inverholme School.
Similar to its original location, the house is oriented with views towards the Fraser River amidst large expanses of grass and a mixed canopy of deciduous and coniferous trees.
Built in 1905-06 at the corner of 62B and River Road, ‘Burrvilla’ reflects the turn of the nineteenth century economic expansion of Delta's farming industry, and symbolizes the wealth and status attained by the prominent Burr family. It is of great historic importance within the Crescent Island community and is a valuable legacy of Delta’s pioneering origins. The house and its farm were an important centre for community social gatherings for Crescent Islanders and others from Ladner
Also, the Burr property was the location of a steamer landing and briefly housed Crescent Island’s only post office. The house was the most prominent in the area and a well-known community landmark.
The man for whom the house was built, Henry Benjamin Burr (known as ‘Harry’), was the son of W.H. Burr who was an early pioneer involved in the municipal incorporation of Delta. Harry Burr began farming on Crescent Island in the 1890s and married Edith Blanche Mitchell, daughter of pioneer Nathaniel Mitchell, in 1899. The house remained in Burr family ownership until 1974.
The heritage value of ‘Burrvilla’ is also associated with its architecture as an excellent and unusually late example of the popular Queen Anne Revival Style. The house represents a transition point between the elaborate Victorian residential styles and the more simplified expressions of the Edwardian era. It was constructed by carpenter, Fred Land, and designer/builder, David Price, who was Harry Burr's brother-in-law.
