In the Medieval gallery at the V & A

Artist unknown, Lorraine, 1325

These beautifully carved fragments come from an ornate tomb canopy. The angels are perfuming the tomb beneath with incense, just as the body of the deceased might have been censed during the funeral service. Originally painted, the canopy would have drawn attention to the tomb, which must have occupied a prominent position in Sawley church.

Interior of Office by Frank Lloyd Wright

Made from cypress plywood, this office is the only complete interior designed by architect

Frank Lloyd Wright on permanent display outside the USA.

Pittsburgh retail magnate Edgar J Kaufmann Sr commissioned Wright to design this room for a Kaufmann's department store. He was persuaded to adopt the architect's modern style by his son, who had spent six months as Wright's apprentice.

Edgar Kaufmann Jr donated the office to the V&A in 1974 after his father's death, believing that Wright's work could not have found a safer or a more suitable haven.'

This exceptionally fine window is carved with elaborate Gothic tracery. It would never have been glazed and instead the weather was kept out with shutters, possibly both inside and out. Few windows of this date remain in their original location or condition. This one came from a house in Hadleigh, Suffolk
