Das Heilig-Geist-Spital in Nürnberg war die größte städtische Einrichtung (Siechenhaus) zur Versorgung von Kranken und (vor allem) Alten in der Reichsstadt und wurde durch die Franziskaner betreut. Darüber hinaus diente es als Wohnstätte für Behinderte, als Schulhaus, Spital mit Apotheke sowie Wöchnerinnenstation. Das Spital wurde zum Teil über dem Bett der Pegnitz errichtet. Es wurde von Konrad Groß, dem damals reichsten Nürnberger Bürger, als gestiftet. Das Spital wurde 1339 zusammen mit einer Kirche, das wie in allen mittelalterlichen Städten dem Heiligen Geist geweiht war.
Es ist bekannt als Aufbewahrungsstätte der Reichskleinodien, die von 1424 bis 1796 in Nürnberg verwahrt wurden.
Der Sage nach wurden das Heilig-Geist-Spital und seine Bewohner um 1340 Zielscheibe eines bösen Scherzes von Till Eulenspiegel, der vorgab, an einem Tage alle Kranken ohne Arznei gesund gemacht zu haben.
The Holy Spirit Hospital in Nuremberg was the largest municipal institution (infirmary) for the care of the sick and (especially) the elderly in the imperial city and was run by the Franciscans. It also served as a home for the disabled, a school, a hospital with a pharmacy and a maternity ward. The hospital was partly built over the bed of the Pegnitz. It was donated by Konrad Groß, the richest citizen of Nuremberg at the time. The hospital was built in 1339 together with a church dedicated to the Holy Spirit, as in all medieval towns.
It is known as the repository of the imperial jewels, which were kept in Nuremberg from 1424 to 1796.
According to legend, the Holy Spirit Hospital and its inhabitants became the target of an evil joke by Till Eulenspiegel around 1340, who pretended to have cured all the sick in one day without medicine.

Die Blockade West-Berlins durch die Sowjetunion, eine Enklave in der sowjetischen Besatzungszone, wurde die Bevölkerung von der Versorgung mit Lebensmittel , Medikamenten und anderen lebenswichtigen Hilfsmitteln in der Zeit vom 24.Juni1948 bis zum12.Mai 1949 abgeschnitten. Mit der Idee die Bevölkerung im westlichen Teil der Stadt durch die Luft von den Alliierten versorgt. Die Idee Kinder eine kleine Freude zu schenken hatte der Pilot Gail Halvorsen. In kleinen selbstgebastelten Fallschirmen wurde Schokolade, Kaugummi und Rosinen am Flughafen Tempelhof aus den Rosinenbombern abgeworfen. Die Kinder warteten jeden Tag auf die kleinen Gaben.

The blockade of West Berlin by the Soviet Union, an enclave in the Soviet occupation zone, cut off the population from the supply of food, medicine and other vital supplies in the period from 24 June 1948 to 12 May 1949. The idea was that the population in the western part of the city would be supplied by air by the Allies. The pilot Gail Halvorsen had the idea to give children a little joy. Chocolate, chewing gum and sultanas were dropped from the sultana bombers at Tempelhof Airport in little parachutes he had made himself. The children waited every day for the little gifts.

Le blocus de Berlin-Ouest par l'Union soviétique, une enclave dans la zone d'occupation soviétique, a privé la population de l'approvisionnement en nourriture, médicaments et autres produits de première nécessité du 24 juin 1948 au 12 mai 1949. L'idée était que la population de la partie ouest de la ville soit approvisionnée par les alliés par voie aérienne. Le pilote Gail Halvorsen a eu l'idée d'offrir un peu de joie aux enfants. Des chocolats, des chewing-gums et des raisins secs étaient largués des bombardiers à raisins à l'aéroport de Tempelhof dans des petits parachutes faits maison. Another one from the Reichstag dome on top of the Reichstag building, the seat of the German government. This is the "top of the top", the highest point of the dome that you can reach as a visitor. And yes, the top of the Reichstag dome is open. Always, 24/7/365, and there also is no mechanism to close it, not even when it rains.
A design flaw? No, the open top of the dome is part of the Reichstag building's energy concept. As you can see in some of my other captures from the Reichstag dome (please check my albums, if you like), there's a large funnel at the centre of the dome which was not only constructed to lead diffuse daylight into the plenary hall of the German Bundestag (which is located right below the dome), but also serves as a ventilation system for the plenary hall. Stale air from the plenary hall is directed through the funnel and escapes through the opening at the centre of the dome. Moreover, on its way to the top, it also passes a heat recovery system that can extract usable residual energy from it.
And what happens when it rains? Don't worry, a device directly under the opening of the dome catches the rainwater.

Das ist die Reichstagskuppel tatsächlich, und zwar bei jeder Witterung. Was sich wie ein Planungsfehler anhört, ist Teil des ausgeklügelten Energiekonzepts des Reichstagsgebäudes, in das die Kuppel mit einbezogen wurde.
Wie Ihr vermutlich wisst, dient der Trichter in der Mitte der Kuppel nicht nur dazu, diffuses Tageslicht in den sich direkt unter der Kuppel befindlichen Plenarsaal zu leiten. Der Trichter dient auch als Belüftungssystem, indem er verbrauchte Luft nach oben direkt durch die Öffnung im Kuppeldach abtransportiert. Nicht nur das, auf dem Weg zur Kuppelöffnung passiert sie auch noch eine Wärmerückgewinnungsanlage, die ihr verwertbare Restenergie entzieht. Die vom Architekten des Reichstagsgebäudes, Paul Wallot (1841-1912), ursprünglich vorgesehenen Belüftungsschächte wurden beim Neubau der Kuppel übrigens wieder freigelegt und ebenfalls für die Versorgung mit Frischluft nutzbar gemacht.
Und was passiert, wenn es regnet? Keine Sorge, eine Vorrichtung direkt unter der Kuppelöffnung fängt das Regenwasser auf.

Noch eine Woche, dann ist der Einsatz von VT2E im Taunus vorbei und es übernehmen die Regionalverkehre Start Deutschland GmbH die Betriebsführung auf den Linien RB 11, 12, 15 und 16.
Am Nachmittag des 02.09.2022 haben VT2E 14 und VT2E 12 gerade den Hasselborner Tunnel durchfahren und passieren beim ehemaligen Haltpunkt "Jägerhaus" den alten Gleisanschluss der „Metallwerke Taunus Johann Saar GmbH“ (Saarwerke). Dort wurden bis 1985 Metallschränke- und regale produziert. Nach Rückbau und Sanierung des Industriestandorts betreibt hier mittlerweile die kommunale Rhein-Main-Deponie GmbH den Biomassehof Grävenwiesbach. Das Anschlussgleis ist zwar noch angebunden, wird heute allerdings nur noch sehr spordisch für die Versorgung von Bahnbaustellen verwendet.

Am 4. März konnte ich zum ersten Mal eine Eurodual Lokomotive der Baureihe 159 fotografieren. Dieses lange Biest aus dem Hause Stadler hat einen komplett beladenen Kohlezug aus Wilhelmshaven am Haken. Da diese modernen Lokomotiven sowohl unter als auch ohne Oberleitung variabel eingesetzt werden können, ist die Versorgung des Kohlekraftwerks Zolling in Niederbayern ohne Lokwechsel problemlos möglich.
On March 4th, I was able to photograph a class 159 Eurodual locomotive for the first time. This long beast from Stadler is hauling a fully loaded coal train from Wilhelmshaven through the village of Vierkirchen. Since these modern locomotives can be used variably both under and without an overhead line, supplying the Zolling coal-fired power plant in Lower Bavaria is easily possible without changing the locomotive.

De diensten op de smalspoorlijn beginnen vroeg en duren lang. Als de laatste trein aankomt, is het personeel van de locomotief nog lang niet klaar. Het vuur moet uitgeschept worden. De slakken moeten van het rooster en de as dient uit de rookkast verwijderd te worden. Samenwerking tussen machinist en stoker is een vereiste. Hier pleegt de machinist van locomotief 99 3001 voor de locloods in Weißwasser nog even overleg met zijn collega. Pas als alle taken verricht zijn, is het voor hen ook eindelijk "Feierabend". Een tweede machine heeft net de watervoorraad voor de volgende dag op peil gebracht en wacht tot het spoor vrij is om ook een veilige plek in de locomotievenloods op te zoeken.

Die Struktur des Gartens, der hauptsächlich der Versorgung des großen Hauses mit Obst und Gemüse diente, entspricht noch weitgehend der Situation aus den 1820er Jahren. Allerdings wurden die alten Gemüsegärten durch Rasenflächen ersetzt.

Das Heilig-Geist-Spital in Nürnberg (umgangssprachlich oft kurz HeiGei war die größte städtische Einrichtung zur Versorgung von Kranken und (vor allem) Alten in der Reichsstadt. Das Spital wurde zum Teil über dem Bett der Pegnitz errichtet. Es wurde von Konrad Groß, dem damals reichsten Nürnberger Bürger, als Seelgerät gestiftet.
Es ist bekannt als Aufbewahrungsstätte der Reichskleinodien, die von 1424 bis 1796 in Nürnberg verwahrt wurden. Das Spital wurde 1339 zusammen mit einer Kirche als sogenanntes Siechenhaus errichtet, das wie in allen mittelalterlichen Städten dem Heiligen Geist geweiht war. Es war eine private Stiftung in der Trägerschaft der Stadt, die durch die Franziskaner aus dem nahegelegenen Kloster und später durch das Spitalamt Heilig Geist betreut wurde. Es diente als Wohnstätte für Alte und Behinderte, als Schulhaus, Spital mit Apotheke sowie Wöchnerinnenstation.

The Holy Spirit Hospital in Nuremberg (colloquially often referred to as HeiGei[1][2]) was the largest municipal institution for the care of the sick and (especially) the elderly in the imperial city. The hospital was built partly over the bed of the Pegnitz River. It was donated by Konrad Groß, the richest citizen of Nuremberg at the time, as a spiritual device.
It is known as the repository of the imperial regalia, which were kept in Nuremberg from 1424 to 1796. The hospital was built in 1339 together with a church as a so-called infirmary, which, as in all medieval cities, was dedicated to the Holy Spirit. It was a private foundation sponsored by the city, which was run by the Franciscans from the nearby monastery and later by the Holy Spirit Hospital Office. It served as a residence for the elderly and disabled, a schoolhouse, a hospital with a pharmacy, and a maternity ward.

Zur Versorgung des in Hagen-Kabel gelegenen Stora-Enso-Papierwerks mit Kreideschlamm verkehrt ein aus den markanten Knick-Kesselwagen gebildeter Ganzzug zwischen dem slowenischen Jesenice und Schwerte. Die Traktionierung übernimmt hierbei das Salzburger Unternehmen SETG über den gesamten Laufweg hinweg. Die Züge verkehren in der Regel zwei mal pro Woche, allerdings als Sonderleistung. Daher gibt es keine festen Fahrzeiten, nach denen man sich richten könnte. Am Vortag hatte ich schon die Gelegenheit, die Fahrt ins Ruhrgebiet im Maintal zu dokumentieren. Am 05. Oktober 2018 gelang darüber hinaus ein Bild der Rückleistung nach Slowenien. Bei Harrbach wanderte 193 204 mit ihrem an diesem Tage recht kurzen Zug auf die Speicherkarte, den Lokführer freute es sichtlich.
To supply the Stora-Enso paper mill located in Hagen-Kabel with chalk sludge, a block train consisting of special tank cars runs between the Slovenian Jesenice and Schwerte. Traction is provided by the Salzburg-based company SETG over the entire way. The trains usually run twice a week, but as a special service. Therefore, there are no fixed times to follow. So I was happy on October 05th 2018 when I was able to take a picture of the referred train once again at the Main valley. It was hauled by SETG's 193 204, which was probably recently washed. This engine shows motifs on its sides reminiscent of the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - the most famous son of the city of Salzburg. The train driver also seemed happy to have a picture of him at work when he passed my photo-spot at Harrbach.

Mit dem KLV-Zug KT 42129 von Köln Eifeltor nach Verona Q.E. waren am 16. November 2024 die 193 354 und 338 unterwegs, als ich sie bei Brannenburg im Inntal fotografieren konnte. Die zweite Lok trägt die Aufschrift #DBCargofährt, die sie während des Corona Lockdowns erhalten hat. Während dieser Zeit haben die Bahn und ihre Mitarbeiter einen wichtigen Anteil daran gehabt, die Versorgung der Bevölkerung sicher zu stellen.
On 16 November 2024, 193 354 and 338 were on their way with intermodal train KT 42129 from Cologne Eifeltor to Verona Q.E. when I was able to photograph them near Brannenburg in the Inn Valley. The second locomotive is labelled #DBCargofährt, which it received during the coronavirus lockdown. During this time, the railway and its employees played an important role in ensuring supplies to the population.

An diesem dünnen Ast haben sich deutlich mehr Blüten als Blätter entwickelt. Der Baum kann sich so intensiver auf die Versorgung der Blüten mit Wasser und Nährstoffen konzentrieren. Außerden sind die frei stehenden Blüten für Insekten deutlich leichter zugänglich. Die Voraussetzungen für einen guten Ernteertrag sind also ausgezeichent.

This thin branch has significantly more flowers than leaves. This allows the tree to concentrate more intensively on supplying the flowers with water and nutrients. In addition, the free-standing flowers are much easier for insects to access. The conditions for a good harvest yield are therefore excellent.

Until her death in January 2023, the former chief architect of Ivry-sur-Seine herself lived in one of these sprawling polygons, green terraced houses with converted interiors and unusually designed residential units. The 'concrete rocks' she built in the 1970s and 1980s integrate the functions of education, culture, medical care, communication, leisure and consumption with affordable and spacious living. Renée Gailhoustet has dedicated her entire professional life to social housing construction, and a public sector that provided the funds for this during this period has let her do it. The extensive privatisation of housing construction in times of neoliberalism and the interests of investors are hardly compatible with concepts of this kind.

Bis zu ihrem Tod im Januar 2023 lebte die ehemalige Chefarchitektin von Ivry-sur-Seine selbst in einem dieser wuchernden Polygone, begrünte Terassenhäuser mit umbauten Innenräumen und ungewöhnlich geschnittenen Wohneinheiten. Die in den 70er und 80er Jahren von ihr gebauten 'Betonfelsen' integrieren Funktionen von Bildung, Kultur, medizinischer Versorgung, Kommunikation, Freizeit und Konsum mit bezahlbarem und großzügigem Wohnen. Ihr ganzes Berufsleben lang hat sich Renée Gailhoustet dem sozialen Wohnungsbau gewidmet und eine öffentliche Hand, die in dieser Zeit die Mittel dafür aufbrachte, hat sie machen lassen. Die in Zeiten des Neoliberalismus weitgehende Privatisierung des Wohnungsbaus und die Interessen der Investoren sind mit Konzepten dieser Art kaum kompatibel.

Endlich wieder Leben im "Städtle"
A propos Trinken: Vor der Marienapotheke und dem Fleischhaus befindet sich einer der vielen Brunnen von Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Vom Marktplatzbrunnen (eigentlich: Georgenbrunnen oder St. Georgsbrunnen) sollte man heute nicht unbedingt trinken, einst diente er aber den Händlern auf dem Platz und in der Herrngasse zur Versorgung der Tiere, die hier zum Kauf angeboten wurden.
Speaking of drinking: one of the many fountains in Rothenburg ob der Tauber is located in front of the Marie pharmacy and the Fleischhaus. You shouldn't necessarily drink from the marketplace fountain (actually: Georgenbrunnen or St. Georgsbrunnen), but once it was used by the traders on the square and in the Herrngasse to care for the animals that were offered for sale here.
