A beautiful colored flycatcher named after its distinctive color - copper-Sulphate blue. This is a migratory bird from Himalayan region and winters in South India. Thanks to the heavy rains this year, the winter is already colder than usual and because of that I think the winter birds will be more. I already sighted around 15-20 of these birds in one place and the numbers are pretty healthy this time.

I think this is a male based on the color. Both the sexes are of similar color, but the female has a quite washed out /faded color while the male sports a rich color.

Last weekend, we visited 3 different birding places and all of them turned out to be a flop show somehow. And then as we were leaving in the evening, these birds came out from the canopy and started playing around.

Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

A very colorful flycatcher named after its distinctive color - copper-Sulphate blue. Both the sexes are of similar color, but the female has a quite washed out /faded color while the male is colorful like above. They are upper canopy birds and could be heard in some of the places often. There were several of them and we had a wonderful time watching them play and forage on the upper canopy.

These are migratory birds from Southern China / South East Asia / Himalayan forests to South India. They come in good numbers and are quite a favorite of photographers due to their distinctive color.

This one is a female noted by the pale blue color. I suspect it is a subadult judging by the size of it. The area was wet and had some large puddles of stagnant water in some places, mostly under / around the bush. Resulting in lot of flies and insects which attracted the flycatchers.

A Lovely Winter migrant from Himalaya.

Verditer Flycatcher (Eumyias thalassina) is a resident in Himalayas and north-east India.

This species is named after its distinctive shade of copper-sulphate blue and has a dark patch between the eyes and above the bill base. The adult males are intense blue on all areas of the body, except for the black eye-patch and grey vent. Adult females and sub-adults are lighter blue

We sighted 2 males and females and they were quite active on the lush slope on the hillside. It was quite difficult to shoot in the thick canopy or bush, but luckily for us, this one came up and perched on this for about 30 seconds giving this shot.

We sighted several of them in their nesting grounds during the trip to the Himalayan forests earlier this month - they were nesting in roadside bushes. I was quite delighted to see so many of them and up close - I love their distinctive color and calls.

The place was buzzing with a large group of aggressive monkeys and hence many of these birds were perched on wires and not on tree tops where we preferred to see them.
