Verbenen Blüten im Botanischen Garten Karlsruhe

The verb blóta meant "to worship with blood sacrifice", or "to strengthen".

The written sources and the archaeological record indicate that in Old Norse religious practice the sacrifice of animals, particularly pigs and horses, played a significant part in the blót. More than just a simple sacrifice, the blót was central to all the ritual activities that took place in Norse sacral structures. Closer in conception to a gift, the blót usually involved killing animals, and sometimes humans, in ritual fashion with their blood being poured into bowls or onto stones. Twigs were dipped into the liquid and shaken, throwing a spray onto the onlookers and the buildings. At the temple-hall of Hofstaðir in northern Iceland, oxen were decapitated in seasonal rituals for many years. Osteological analysis of the bones shows that the animals were killed with blows to the neck by axe or sword. This method was intended to produce the spectacle of a shower of arterial blood.

The ritual killing of animals was followed by feasts on the meat, as described in the Eddic and Scaldic poetry, the Icelandic sagas, and on rune stones.

The meat was boiled in large cooking pits with heated stones, either indoors or outdoors, and ale or mead (mjöð) was drunk in the ceremony.[

A condition of exhaustion... NOT ME! LOL

Saw this bouquet of tulips, of the fringed variety.

Not only are these beauties frayed at the edges but they are also duo-toned, they’ve got it all!

The word 'weird' was delivered to us through Middle and Old English. Around 750, the word 'wyrd' was a noun meaning fate. Likely derived from Urðr [the 'ð' is the letter 'eth,' and has a soft 'th' sound], a deity in Norse mythology who was responsible for the destiny of humans.

Wyrd was plucked from the longer Old English verb weorþan, which mean "to become." (The 'þ' is the letter 'thorn,' and also has a soft 'th' sound.)

It followed us into Middle English, retaining the same spelling and meaning. But it also became an adjective for someone who could control destiny. You might recognize it in the witches from Macbeth, named the Weird Sisters. They were, essentially, the fates.

Around the same time or maybe a bit before, the Scots began to use it as a verb for a decree of fate. From there, the spelling changed though the meaning did not.

In fact, it didn't really mean what it means today until the early 1800s. Shelley seems to have been the culprit.

Thy messenger, to render up the tale

Of what we are. In lone and silent hours,

When night makes a weird sound of its own stillness,

Like an inspired and desperate alchemist

Staking his very life on some dark hope

Curiously, weird didn't become a noun again until 1955 when someone brilliantly coined the term "weirdo."

Les contorsions de l'Ephippigère

Ephippigère (ou sauterelle tigrée) mâle. « Ephippiger » vient du latin ephippium qui veut dire « selle de cheval » et du verbe latin gerere qui signifie porter. D'où le nom vernaculaire de porte-selle parfois donné aux éphippigères.

whilst taping up my living room windows to start decorating, i decided to use the paper to write some irregular portuguese verbs on so i could get familiar with them. they're not easy as they obviosly defy the rules of the patterns i've become familiar with so i have to learn them parrot fashion. i thought it would be a good way to add practice whilst i'm decorating the front room

The word voted is a past tense form of the word vote. It is an action which makes it a verb. If you don't vote you don't want freedom of choice you want freedom from choice like the old song by Devo. Trump will be certain to give you freedom from choice and freedom from living in a democracy as well.
