La E646.028 è qui ripresa in transito appena dopo la stazione di Livorno Ferraris, con il primo treno storico Torino Porta Nuova-Varallo Sesia del 2019.
Il treno è stato trainato dalla E646 fino a Novara, poi dalla Gr. 800 051 fino a Varallo Sesia.

This train was the first one going to Varallo Sesia and originating at Torino instead of Milano and it was hauled by the E646 electric locomotive from Torino Porta Nuova to Novara and then by the Gr. 880 051 steam locomotive up to Varallo Sesia.
Per festeggiare i 130 anni della linea, nel weekend del 3 e 4 settembre 2016, sono stati organizzati una serie di treni storici e speciali. Alcuni di questi sono stati effettuati con la bella ALn772.3265, qui fotografata a Grignasco in transito verso Varallo Sesia.

Uno splendido borgo all'imbocco della Valsesia. Lassù, oltre i tetti degli edifici, si scorgono le cappelle e la chiesa del Sacro Monte di Varallo.
Per due Sabati lungo la Novara-Varallo è stato possibile assistere al ritorno delle ALn663, con alcune corse speciali serali in occasione dell'Alpàa a Varallo Sesia.
Nella foto le ALn663 1015, 1014 e 1011 si dirigono verso Varallo Sesia con il regionale 29242, in una limpida serata estiva.
The line from Novara to Varallo actually has no passenger service and is used only for special and historic trains and for a weekly freight train from Novara to Romagnano Sesia.
In July 2016, however, a few special trains ran to Varallo Sesia, in the evening, for the Alpàa festival in Varallo.

La chiesa, situata ai piedi del Sacro Monte di Varallo, con relativo convento francescano, è strettamente legata alla storia del Sacro Monte stesso e al volere di frate Bernardino Caìmi, che la fa edificare tra il 1487 e il 1501. L’edificio, secondo il modello francescano, è a navata unica, con copertura lignea a vista. Vi si trova un eccezionale ciclo di affreschi della “Vita e Passione di Cristo”, sulla parete divisoria tra l’abside e il presbiterio, realizzato fra il 1512 e il 1513 da Gaudenzio Ferrari e composto da 21 riquadri tra i quali spicca al centro, di maggiori dimensioni, la “Crocefissione”. Santa Maria delle Grazie viene affiancata nel 1486 da Santa Maria Immacolata, una seconda chiesa idealmente collegata alla prima da un grande arco.
The church, located at the foot of the Sacro Monte in Varalllo, has, on the wall that divides the presbytery from the apse, a grandiose fresco cycle done between 1512 and 1513 by Gaudenzio Ferrari which shows the life of Christ in 21 pictures. Santa Maria delle Grazie was flanked by Santa Maria Immacolata, a second church ideally connected to the first by a large arch, in 1486. The construction of the church and the conventual complex are tied to the history of the Sacro Monte and greatly desired by Franciscan Monk Bernardino Caimi. In the square, which during the summer turns into a concert venue, one can view the statue dedicated to Gaudenzio Ferrari.
La linea Novara-Varallo Sesia è una delle ultime linee rimaste, dopo la chiusura della Vercelli-Casale Monferrato, qui vediamo un Regionale di metà giornata da Varallo a Novara, nei pressi di S.Bernardino (NO), a pochi Km dalla sua destinazione.
La Novara-Varallo Sesia, dopo la chiusura al traffico viaggiatori avvenuta lo scorso settembre, viene ora percorsa in parte solamente dalle tradotte da e per la cartiera Kimberly Clark di Romagnano Sesia.
Una di queste tradotte è qui ripresa nei pressi di Santo Stefano (Novara), trainata dalla D445.1070 con una ventina di carri al seguito.
The weekly diesel hauled freight train from Romagnano Sesia's paper mill to Novara Boschetto is seen here near Santo Stefano (Novara), hauled by FS D445.1070. This train is the only one still travelling on the Novara-Varallo Sesia line, since the end of passenger services, which happened on 14/09/2014.
In the future there's hope that this line may be opened again.
Varallo Sesia, commonly known as Varallo, is a comune and town in the province of Vercelli in the Piedmont region of Italy.
The valley of the Sesia is very narrow at this point as it nears its source. Varallo lies on the left bank where the Mastallone flows into the Sesia.
About 150 metres (490 ft) above the town the Sacro Monte di Varallo is one of the most famous Piedmontese pilgrimage sites, and the oldest of the Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy which were inscribed by UNESCO in the World Heritage List in 2003.
