Compton Valence is a very small village in Dorset. It is particularly beautiful for a couple of weeks in early February when the snowdrops are in flower. The snowdrops cascade down the banks on the sides of the narrow road leading to the village which is off an old Roman road, creating a stunning display.

This is another view of the fall color at the Merced River during my recent visit to Yosemite Valley. This end of the valley had the best changing leaves during my exploring. The water was deeper here than when I hiked to Mirror Lake and I was able to capture the reflections a lot better.

They've finally opened up Bridel Veil Falls near where this was taken, but I came on a weekend and there was no way I was getting a parking space. I'm curious to see what they did with the pathway up to the viewing area. Maybe next visit.

Taking my break from 16:9 landscapes, I wanted to leave the full frame here to show the expanse of the valley, the mighty hills and the layers in between

Spitian landscape amazes you at every turn, being a cold mountain desert in the high himalayan ranges, you are left to look at the browns and greys of the landscape, whites of the snow mountains out back and then like a dream, a farm land appears, adding a color from God's palette

The Elan valley dams and reservoirs near the town of Rhayader in the hills of Wales were built around 100 years ago and serve water to the city of Birmingham 100 miles to the north of the dams. They are often at low water level in the summertime and most of the year, but occasionally flow over the top of the dams as in this picture.

The magnificent 16 km long Brandnertal (Brandner Valley) in Austria’s westernmost province of Vorarlberg at the foot of the Schesaplana, the highest peak (2965 m) in the Rätikon. The Rätikon is a mountain range of the Central Eastern Alps located at the border between Austria (Vorarlberg), Liechtenstein and Switzerland (Graubünden). The Brandnertal starts near the Alpine city of Bludenz. Mountains, glaciers, forests, mountain lakes and small rivers characterise the landscape.

A trip through the Doolough Valley is a special experience. Nestled between high mountains, there are two lakes along which the Wild Atlantic Way winds its way. The untouched nature creates a unique idyll.

At the northern end of the valley, right next to the road, there is a cross built in memory of the victims of the “Doolough Tragedy”. During the great famine in 1849 hundreds of needy inhabitants of Louisburgh set off on foot to Delphi Lodge to seek food from the authorities there. However, they were harshly rejected. On the way back to Louisburgh, many of them died of hunger and frost in the Doolough Valley.

Taken from the summit of Doan in the Mourne Mountains, this is the quaintly named Silent Valley Reservoir. I walked a circuit from there - see my previous two posts if you're interested! The low clouds were drifting around, making the place feel higher than it is.

I had my lunch where the chap is standing but he arrived with his family and I left them to it, finding another angle. Thankfully he stood admiring the view long enough for me to snap him to help the photo out.

This is the view from an exhausting daytrip up to the famous 'Ice Lake' near Braga. The mountains in the background are part of the annapurna range. Had a pretty bad headache from the heigth, but this photo was worth it.

Another beautiful valley, somewhere between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Arabba, Dolomites, Italy.

From our lovely hike last Sunday - passing through a magical woodland section in the Dart valley nature reserve. I would have loved to spend more time taking photos of the beautiful gnarly and moss-covered trees (especially in that stunning light). I shot this one more or less 'from the hip' as we were walking up to Bench tor.

I have probably uploaded a similar photo many years back but since many new friends have joined me since then I thought I would share it again.

I took this photo somewhere in Lahaul valley of Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of over 10,000 feet.We were on our way back from Kaza in Spiti valley to Manali. That is probably the Chandra River meandering through Lahaul valley on its way to meet the Bhaga River to form the Chandrabhaga or Chenab , one of the five rivers of the Punjab. We were late, the road was practically non-existent , there was no human habitation anywhere and it was one of the scariest road journeys we have ever undertaken. We really heaved a huge sigh of relief when we finally crossed the Rohtang Pass (altitude 13,058feet) and reached Manali at around 11pm at night.

As you can guess, I am missing the mountains a lot.:-)

This is U.S. Highway 163 crossing Monument Valley. I think almost every second car stops here to take photos :)

On a trip in Hawaii. We’re on the Big Island (BKA) The Island of Hawaii. There’s eight islands total. Due to the pandemic we weren’t able to visit the other islands, not to mention the cost of transportation between the islands. But we were content with seeing the work of our Heavenly Father’s hand in action. We climbed up and down a foot trail to get a glimpse of the waterfront until we eventually got there. More pics to come!
