This great valley boasts sandstone masterpieces that tower at heights of 400 to 1,000 feet. framed by scenic clouds casting shadows that graciously roam the desert floor. The angle of the sun accents these graceful formations, providing scenery that is simply spellbinding.

The South view "right"with Saturn and the core of the Milky Way and the North view "left" still in twilight. The centre light pollution is Calgary due east. Antares in Scorpio is on the peak and Saturn is directly above

William Gilpin. I haven't been able to find any really relevant paintings of his on the net. Does this quite different scene give any hint of what I meant? www.artnet.com/PDB/PublicLotDetails.aspx?lot_id=425316339...
A little part of the Girvan Valley, today, in sunshine.
Kirk Hill is to the top of the frame with Mossgennoch Wood just below. The Water of Girvan runs right along the flat, green floodplain.
I drove down my track - on the opposite side of the Valley - to take this shot. Lovely to see it in the sunlight, if only very briefly.

“Here it's safe, here it's warm,
Here the daisies guard you from harm,
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true,
Here is the place where I love you.”

The patterns of the rocks formed by erosion look like curtains hanging on the cliff to the valley deep down. Amazing beauty by nature.
Back to my first solo trip to the American Southwest, which of course also included an extensive visit to Monument Valley, especially the well-known film locations.
On Tuesday of this week I once again couldn't get out of the Wittlich valley not far from home to capture a few morning moods with the camera.
I wish you a nice weekend, the sun is shining and it should stay that way until Monday.
Thank you for comments and favorites, they are very much appreciated.

I didn't go in. I was just trying to find the place. I'm going to take my meetup group on a wine tour on Saturday and this is one of the places I'm going to take the group. It's a new winery but my boss says the wines are pretty good. Here's a little info:
Founded in 1983, Wimberley Valley Winery has a proud history of producing fine wines in central Texas with a focus on quality and a wide selection to suit all palates.
Kangaroo Valley Road (NSW, Australia) parts of which are wrapped by a thick lush forest occasionally lets in some light. On one misty afternoon I found myself standing in the middle of the road capturing the ghostly light that filled this breathtaking scene.

The Lauterbrunnen valley is one of the deepest in the Alps, comparing the height difference of the adjacent mountains and the valley floor. In some places the cliff walls are 1000 m high. Streams flowing down the mountains, at the edge of the rocky valley walls, form high waterfalls. The most famous of these are the Staubbach Falls (visible on the right) and the Trummelbach Falls. The 297 m high Staubbach Falls is the tallest free-fall waterfall in Switzerland.

Monument Valley "Ndzisgaii in Navajo", meaning valley of the rocks, is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the Arizona–Utah state line, near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163.
Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Director John Ford used the location for a number of his best-known films and thus, in the words of critic Keith Phipps, "its five square miles have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West.
