a moment after this, the kid looked over at me taking his picture with exactly the same face. possibly the most placated kid ever. i think dad slipped him a valium jr.
...this little dude right here. He got a piece of a steak bone lodged around his upper back teeth so we had to take him to his vet to get it pried out . After one shot of valium and two shots of ketamine, the vet was able to get the piece out but he was out for about 2 hours.
After the first shot of valium...it didnt phase him. I almost think it made him a little more antsy. He felt a need to walk around more. Then Dr P. gave him a shot of ketamine. Miyagi got a little loopy but nothing definite. 15 minutes later he gave him another shot of ketamine. And that finally did the trick. He fell out, I mean seriously, fell out and they lifted him onto the table.
Dr P got some 'pliers' out and tugged and tugged and tugged and finally the bone came loose. No blood, thank God but a heck of a funky smell was coming out of his mouth so he gave him a shot of penicilian for possible infection.
Once he came to he layed still for about 30 minutes and then slowly began to clean every spot on his body that he could reach without too much movement I'd taken a few pictures through the whole ordeal but this is one of the safer ones..
Moral of the story...no matter what...even if it is a 'treat'....bones are just not good for dogs. We very seldom give him a bone...usually we will put it somewhere where he will eventually 'hunt' it out or we give him one as treat for something he's done. NOT ANY MORE.
