Had to make one this year :)
Found some inspiration after seeing Blake Foster post a wip-pic of a wing, and ended up with this ;)
One of two times in my life that I played with slide film, and one of the two longest backpacking hikes I ever did. The canyon is of the Hamilton River, and in the distant bowl are Hamilton Lakes. My task was to climb past those lakes into Kaweah Gap, which is kind of around the corner above the bowl. We're looking at the peaks of the Great Western Divide, and I think that must be Mt. Stewart (12,205 ft) on the left, Eagle Scout Peak (12,040 ft) on the right.
I think this was probably taken with a Canon F1. The film was Kodak EB2.
"When that day comes that I will die, dress me in the finest silk The colour of the evening sky.
As the sun sets west and reflects upon the sea
place me in a sailing craft carved from the finest teak
Surround me with all my memories of keepsakes and my written words.
And when the tide goes out you may set my sails pointed west
Shoot a flaming arrow as I drift away
To pierce the boat and set it afire
And consume me on my final journey
When the flame is extinguished, retrieve my ashes
And place them in an alabaster jar.
My life has always been mundane, I never lived to seize the day
My luck and judgements never meshed
My essence nor my core refreshed.
To take a trip in such a way
To be remembered on that day
Will seal the memory of my death
When I have breathed my final breath."

In Norse mythology, Valhalla (/vælˈhælə, vɑːlˈhɑːlə/; from Old Norse Valhöll "hall of the slain" is a majestic, enormous hall located in Asgard, ruled over by the god Odin. Chosen by Odin, half of those who die in combat travel to Valhalla upon death, led by valkyries, while the other half go to the goddess Freyja's field Fólkvangr. In Valhalla, the dead join the masses of those who have died in combat known as Einherjar and various legendary Germanic heroes and kings, as they prepare to aid Odin during the events of Ragnarök. Before the hall stands the golden tree Glasir, and the hall's ceiling is thatched with golden shields. Various creatures live around Valhalla, such as the stag Eikþyrnir and the goat Heiðrún, both described as standing atop Valhalla and consuming the foliage of the tree Læraðr.
Valhalla is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, the Prose Edda (written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson), Heimskringla (also written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson) and in stanzas of an anonymous 10th century poem commemorating the death of Eric Bloodaxe known as Eiríksmál as compiled in Fagrskinna. Valhalla has inspired various works of art, publication titles, and elements of popular culture, and has become a term synonymous with a martial (or otherwise) hall of the chosen dead.

This story technically started last winter. It was a normal sunny day when I shot a 592 at this frankly unpreferred location on the other side of the tracks. I am sure the usual photo dump to the hard drive happened a few days later and it ended up in the "holding tank" folder. By the time I even got to sorting the goods and bads it was months later at the end of summer. For whatever reason I zoomed into the power (probably checking for focus) and noticed two horizontal lines buried in the woods. A codeline pole! Anyone who knows me knows I am a proponent for these rotting heaps of wood, glass and steel all rigged up in the air. Unfortunately the railroad doesn't share similar feelings for these hallmarks of the right of way, as their original purpose allowing ABS and CTC signaling was replaced years ago by buried cables. Now deemed useless, most have met the teeth of chain saws by MOW crews. Once you get across the Wisconsin River, to my knowledge this is the only one that has escaped a bowing death between Stevens Point and Superior on the main (2018 is the last year I have seen any in pictures North of this location).
After a lot of mental talk, a few cold nights and I tried to get her as dolled up as I could. The next challenge was getting a train rolling past, it took a week to get the learning curve down at this spot, and a few more days to get the right conditions. Today I walked off with this and felt better. Probably would have felt more better if it was a pair of maroon and gold flares but hey.

It was a true privilege to witness this in person. A breath taking view of Fjallsárlón Glacial Lagoon in Iceland.
Neat to see this RJ Corman ALCAN train making great time near Louisville near the Valhalla Golf Course on Aug 11, 2015. .

We drove to Valhalla! Recreation area, that is.... We only stopped to check it out and have a coffee/snack break but are really glad we did. It’s a place we’d like to stop and hike next time.
