We tested out a new (old) manufacturing technology in the Jocelyn H. Lee Innovation Lab - vacuum forming! We fabricated a platen and frame using the laser cutter, then used a toaster oven and a shop-vac to complete the process. Participants were able to vacuum-form a range of shapes out of plastic plates to use as candy molds or decorative artwork! Special thanks to the volunteers who helped make this project a success.

Houston Mini Maker Faire 2016 was the largest yet, and HCPL had a booth in the "Makerspace Pavillion", demonstrating 3D printing, CNC machining, simple circuits and vacuum forming - all while issuing library cards and checking out "Maker" books.

Milling the formwork for the "spider" inserts which were later vacuum formed out of 1/16" acrylic.

I have overlapped knitted fabrics on top of the already existing pieces. Used black boucle yarn and black cotton on 40mm needle. This has been knitting directly on top.

I purposefully chose to knit with bell wire as this would allow me to vacuum form on top of it. Vacuum forming is a process used to mould plastic by suction and heat.

Used cotton cord and mohair to knit with. Used vaiety of knitting needle sizes varying from 4mm to 12mm. The light penetrates through looser loops.
