Fall is starting to show up in some places at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, just a few minutes north of Memphis. There’s still a good bit of green out in those woods, though; the oaks seem to be the last to change. This was the scene Sunday 11/11/18 at Poplar Tree Lake.
Have you ever driven across the Cherohala Skyway? It is one of the most beautiful places in Tennessee and North Carolina, especially during the fall. I was fortunate to drive it in 2018 and was impressed with its beauty. I hope to drive again on that beautiful road soon.
This was my first attempt at capturing the pretty leaves o Fall in Tennessee. I had seen the color change before, on several occasions, mostly as a child, but I had never lived anywhere that I could really dig in a try my hand at some nature photography. I'll be honest, having come from the insanity of all that is Orlando traffic, I absolutely cringed at the thought of having to drive that again, just to go to Gatlinburg so I could grab some pretty landscape photos. I have worked several 6 day weeks lately and just didn't have a lot of time to play. I went on Sunday, and tried to find a couple of good places, but the leaves had turned on Thursday the week before, and by the time I got to take photos, they had already started dying off and a lot of them had black spots on them, or they were completely dead and shriveled up. I'm definitely hoping to figure out where the good spots are for next year... Next year, I'm making the drive to go see Dr. Besant and take some lessons while I'm there.
These photos were taken in and around the Cumberland Caverns. My father and I purchased a "buckestlist package" which included swag, two meals in the cave, and a motel at the Fall Creek Falls State Park. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous!

I'm not a huge fan of still life photography... my passion, is documentary photography; thus, the reason I love wedding photography so much, and it's the same reason I loved getting to photograph for ESPN for a while on the high school and college sports level. But, I am definitely missing the opportunities to enjoy time with the camera overall, so the other day, I decided to go for a photo walk and try my hand at some nature / still life photography. This is the result.

HAA!! You wanna "give someone something to cry about"? I've gotchyou covered!! Here ya go.
To be fair - I am not a landscape photographer by any stretch of the imagination but I do enjoy the challenge of trying to make something interesting out of what others might not even pay any mind.
Allow me to explain myself first... I do not have a certain "style" when it comes to landscape photography... and admittedly, I do love a few different styles. In editing these, I tried my best to stick to those certain styles but I can't really guarantee anything - HAA! - so my apologies in advance.
What did I learn?
1. Um... I think you're really supposed to use smaller f/stops for landscape photography. The amount of times I went to some of these locations and "tried again" is downright ungodly, and I still didn't get it right on some... (you should see the amount of images I "threw away").
2. The direction of the sun makes a HUGE difference when shooting landscape photography... HAA! Who knew!? (Again - the amount of times I went back to locations because I caught the sun at the wrong time of day).
3. I'm sure I'll add to this list as I get more "constructive feedback". LOL! Stay tuned.
You are all set - have had it. LOL!

Eight hours and five tries later, I was successful in uploading this clip. Poor hotel speeds. I took this video at the Bluegrass Underground concert 333 feet underground on May 21, 2016 at Cumberland Caverns. It's shot with a cell phone, video really isn't my thing. I don't even know how to use the video on my 60D.
Flickr limits length to three minutes, so the last bit is chopped off.
