The Rua Reidh lighthouse was our focus for visiting the coast north of Gairloch. The previous owners had disputed public access to the road and any visiting 'toggers' or walkers not staying at the lighthouse B+B could (allegedly) face a hostile reception. With the lighthouse now sold on, it is possible to park just a few hundred meters away rather than have to walk 3 miles from Melvaig, though the approach road is a little 'challenging'. It wasn't possible to get a perfect shooting position for the lighthouse, with a climb up a small hill giving the best compromise.

There are many cleomes in my garden, growing from last year's fallen seeds. A certain type of breed visits them at dusk, and hummingbirds sometimes show interest.

No kidding ;). This photo was taken while I was laying comfortably on the living room couch. The branch you see is part of my garden bird setup. The pond is just next to it and provided a nice vantage point for this young Kingfisher. Once or twice a day we get a visit from several of these fishermen.

On another note, I will be travelling to the US in 2 weeks for business and pleasure. The pleasure part will involve a road trip and some sightseeing in Grand Teton National Park. Feel free to leave any tips you might have regarding this area below :). I will stay in Driggs and Jackson.

...she visits me

when I am weak

when I have nowhere to hide

she always knows when I have someone

and then she comes

she comes to torture me

she visits me

when I am asleep

when I have nowhere to run

she always knows when I have no one

then she comes she comes

she's there to tempt me

she visits me

from the corners of the past

she won't let go of my spirit yet

she comes

she comes to haunt me

she visits me

from the corners of the past

she won't let go of my spirit yet

she comes she comes to haunt me

she comes, to visit me ...

One of several Eurasian nuthatches (Sitta europaea) that used to visit our bird feeders, from the archive.

It's a long time since we've seen them here now, but we photographed them today in the snow by some other feeders.

(Spettmeis in Norwegian)

When we came home today, we also had a great spotted woodpecker at our feeders that let us photograph it up close. We've seen them around, but haven't had one on the feeders before.

I have more photos from our nuthatch visits in the links below the line.

My album of birds here.

This memorial is located at Uig Pier and this is what it says; “King Edward V11 and Queen Alexandra landed at this pier and visited Uig, 1st September 1902. To commemorate the event this monument was erected by Theodore Lumley commissioner to the trustees of Uig, Kilmuir and Staffin. The restoration of this monument is dedicated to the memory of the fallen of two world wars whose names are listed on the war memorial in Uig cemetery.”

Runyon and I visited the beautiful North Bay Park on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti Township (1001 Huron St, Ypsilanti, MI 48197) on a late Spring morning - Saturday June 10th, 2023. The bugs were out - so our visit was brief. Only a few minutes from my home - great place for birds of all kinds for sure.

I must have spent an hour in the forest today looking for "the tree" to use in this photo, then with a stroke of good luck I happened to turn around at the right spot and see this perfect little seat poking out of this tree and I knew that I had found it.

The inspiration behind this comes from finding out that this portion of the forest was just added into a protected community forest that I'm on the Board of Directors for, we've been trying to get it added to our 2,000 hectare protected forest (where almost all my forest photos are taken) and this week, it was finally approved by the government, woot!
