Markyate (Hertfordshire) is a village on the eastern end of the Chilterns, perched down in the valley of the River Ver and, perhaps, hoping that the tempests, weather-wise and politically, will spare its inhabitants. But we did have snow this morning. And we are also not immune to the effects of policies decided upon in Westminster. The tempest is coming.
Waterloo Village is a restored 19th-century canal town in Byram Township, Sussex County (west of Stanhope) in northwestern New Jersey, United States. The community was approximately the half-way point in the roughly 102-mile (165 km) trip along the Morris Canal, which ran from Jersey City (across the Hudson River from Manhattan, New York) to Phillipsburg, New Jersey, (across the Delaware River from Easton, Pennsylvania). Waterloo possessed all the accommodations necessary to service the needs of a canal operation, including an inn, a general store, a church, a blacksmith shop (to service the mules on the canal), and a watermill. For canal workers, Waterloo's geographic location would have been conducive to being an overnight stopover point on the two-day trip between Phillipsburg and Jersey City.
The house from the village of Votrosa, Pestovsky District, was built by Dobrovolsky Yakov Mikhailovich and Praskovya Vasilievna. The house of the Dobrovolskys consists of a twin hut (winter and summer), a barn with a basement and a utility yard. In the 1910s, next to the winter hut, built in the 1880s, a second summer hut was erected - a five-wall. As a rule, winter huts were smaller than summer ones. The huts are covered with a common 2-pitched hip roof of a truss structure, connected by the front vestibule to the outer porch and the rear ones. In the depths of the front vestibule, next to the courtyard, there is a toilet - a "outhouse".

St John the Baptist, Markyate, Hertfordshire, is an 18th century Anglican chapel that grew in size with the village's population growth. Today, its minister is also in charge of St Leonard in the neighbouring village of Flamstead. There are two more churches in the village (Baptist and Methodist respectively). All of them try to find various ways of dealing with the sociological fact that church attendance (which is different from belonging to the Christian tradition) is currently very low. A wonderful walk around the village on a clear, sunny autumn day. This village is a suburb of the city where I live.

In a foggy day, in a small village in China, nobody was there except one girl walking along the stone street.
Markyate, Hertfordshire. Coming from the west and down the hill, you would enter the village here - and, as I said somewhere else, enter into a safe place. Most people appreciate this safety and do not wish to have it disturbed. However, recently the Government has rented a hotel or parts of it about a mile outside the village to accommodate asylum seekers - and this, to some, is a real "disturbance". Rather unpleasant comments have been made on social media which I will not repeat. Fuji X-Pro1 plus XF27/2.8.
