Arriving on Thursday for the Annual Air Fete.
According to Joe Baugher's excellent website, this Hornet was involved in a mid-air collision with an F-14 while operating from USS Saratoga in February 1994. The F-14 crashed, the F/A-18 landed with some damage.

This Hornet was recently added to the USS Hornet's (CVS-12) museum collection.
Significantly, this aircraft was one of two USN aircraft to down an Iraqi Mig-21 during Desert Storm on 17 January 1991. At the time, it was assigned to VFA-81 aboard the USS Saratoga (CV-60). Two Mig-21s were shot down on this mission which marked the only USN air-to-air kills in that conflict.

17th February 2018., Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida, United States
Although painted as 163484, the excellent Joe Baugher resource lists the following for 163484, so it is highly unlikely that this is the actual aircraft .......
163484 (VFA-81) shot down Jan 17, 1991 during Desert Storm. Capt. Michael Speicher KIA. Loss attributed to a missile fired by an Iraqi MiG-25PD. Was shot down by Lt Zuhair Dawoud
of Iraqi AF flying MiG-25PDS of 90 Sqn.
On Aug 2, 2009, the Pentagon reported that Captain Speicher's remains had been identified.
In early July 2009, Iraqi civilians led US Marines to a location in the desert where Speicher's plane had crashed. Speicher
had been killed in the crash and his body was buried by Bedouins at the site.
Remains were recovered over several days and were flown to Dover AFB for identification.

Ever since they legalized marijuana in Colorado, the sky has been hazy from all the smoke. It makes landings difficult when you have a buzz from the second-hand smoke.
