With this photograph, I set-out to emphasize a variety of elements in one photograph: the grittiness of the pavement, the highway lines slowly converging to one, a wide road converging to a twisty, uphill climb, and with the eerie clouds in the distance.

Back in May, this place and time met my expectations. What I found interesting with this photograph is how the perception becomes interesting as you step back from your monitor (back up across the room) and view this photograph from a distance. You'll see how the title of this photograph really comes to life. :)

Soaking up as much sunlight as possible before heading into unfavorable weather, C506 leads the mixed collection of BRM002, B61, S317 and GM27 on 4577 empty SSR Export grain to Merrywinebone through Victoria St.

En route the S and GM would be dropped in Werris Creek and swapped for two 49s, then at Narrabri the C, B and BRM would be dropped off leaving the two 49s to take the train out to Merrywinebone on the Pokataroo Line.

A little break from the warmth of summer, back when CP ran some pretty cool lashups in cool weather. The evening power move from Pig's Eye to Humboldt often provided nice variety and this one is a good example. Hidden away amongst the rugged West Texas Mountains is the tranquil Coal Mine Ranch. The ranch is privately owned so one must be invited, tho' what's more, is one must know how to navigate the unmarked dirt roads to arrive there. An off-road vehicle is a must, too. Once at the Coal Mine Ranch, satellite radio is the only connection to the civilized world; otherwise, expect one of the most relaxing times you could ever have in the wild.

The Coal Mine Ranch is featured in my second book, "El Paso 120 : Edge of the Southwest" which shows the incredible landscapes of West Texas, Southern New Mexico and ... well, El Paso. All areas included in the book are 120 miles or less from the City of El Paso, Texas. Upon release, "El Paso 120" went on to become a best seller and was recognized by the Texas Book Festival as one of the best Texas photography books of the year. The book is available to purchase from any major book sellers such as Barnes and Noble , Amazon or Waterstones

Signed copies are also available. Simply send me a message to arrange.

On the "5416 Variety Show", we see 4200 leading the way east past the MP 13 signals. Once again another cab car had an issue and the Newark bound train had another interesting leader. Back in May, 5416 had 4300 lead for a few days.

Got the inspiration for this from some absolutely beautiful Peruvian feltcraft jewelry boxes that I saw. Also, isn't springtime running a little late? :)

This looks way more time-intensive than it actually was. See closeup view for notes on the flowers.

Just a random posting I happened upon whilst looking for something else. It shows the view from the road of First's Camborne garage (Cornwall) in 2006 where they hadn't half got some variety! The reason for our particular visit was there being worked on, ex PMT Leyland Olympian A746JRE ... the last operational PSV survivor of these ex Potteries Olympians.

Harvestman can often be colourful, they fluoresce under ultraviolet light, and they come in a bewildering variety of forms. They engage in parental care, building elaborate nests to brood their eggs and engage in battles to deter rivals and predators.

As if that weren't enough to stoke interest, some harvestman also possess a viscoelastic fluid used in prey capture. This means that fluid maintains its form under stress, resulting in an essentially highly flexible solid, and indeed, the greater the stress (movement caused by prey) the stronger the bonding. The adaptation is thought to have evolved in order to ensnare mobile, and evasive springtails.

I am still surprised and grateful of the variety of vehicles which were on display and in service at the Go-Coach 10th Anniversary event on Sunday 27th May 2018 and as one of the organisers I thank everyone who played a part in the day.

Stagecoach South East kindly attended with a specially prepared 15261 YN16 WVA complete with programmed blinds for the day including via points! It's seen here after arriving back at Vestry Road after running on route 7 via Sevenoaks Bus Station, Riverhead and Otford Pond.

In August 2018 this vehicle (along with Dennis Trident 17529) was repainted into a special livery to mark the 25th Anniversary of Stagecoach South East - or rather East Kent.

None of these three images are spectacular but they do attest to the variety that can be found in Chicagoland. We camped out specifically at 95th street interlocking at about MP 12 on the CN's Chicago Subdivision, the former Illinois Central mainline. At left is the Metra Electric (ex IC also) 95th Street station. This location is just south of where the CN main connects to the Belt Railway of Chicago and was a good spot to wait for the South Shore to appear coming back from BRC’s commercial avenue yard. They finally showed up at as seen in this post: flic.kr/p/2jyo4Aw

But while waiting we saw Metra Electric, Amtrak, and NICTD/South Shore passenger trains, one NS freight and a giant unidentified CN manifest that came by shortly after we showed up as seen here: flic.kr/p/2jyLBH7

All told in the span of 45 minutes I believe we saw 7 trains from a total of 6 different railroads. Since the CN, South Shore Freight, and NICTD passenger are already represented in those two earlier posts here are the other three roads I caught in this boring but busy location on Chicagos’s far south side

Here is inbound Metra Electric train 814 heading north toward Millennium Station in the Loop as they drop down the sag underneath the BRC mainline. The train is made up of a four Nippon Sharyo Highliner II EMUs that replaced the venerable 1970s Illinois Central Highliners the last of which were retired in 2016.

Here is one from 2019 and what I wrote at the time:

A little bit of quick after work opportunism on the way home from work found me on the platform at the Attleboro MBTA station beside the 4 track elevated ex New Haven Shoreline main, now Amtrak's Northeast Corridor.

I had a little tip that overnight train 66 for Boston had something special trailing. In short order the train flew by on Track 2 with Phase 3 heritage P42 #145 trailing an ACS64 while a few passengers waited beneath the canopy of the circa 1906 inbound station for the next local to Boston.

I've written about this location extensively, most recently in this post:

facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2195234030776706&id...

Following it will take you to more links to other trains here and a lot more history.

Anyway, thanks for looking.
