This collage captures scenes from a South Chennai (India) residential locality on Tuesday after Cyclone Vardah making landfall on Monday afternoon.
This is not the kind of post I ever imagined publishing, but then here it is anyway. The worst we had braced for was torrential rain, flooded streets (and some flooded houses as well), and electricity-water-broadband outage for a day or two. After all Cyclone Nada had passed by with a whimper just a few days ago causing some limited damage. But then Poseidon was possibly in a particularly bad mood this time around and decided to spring a nasty surprise on us :-( Cyclone Vardah changed course to make landfall on Chennai (India) coast instead of significantly up-north as originally anticipated, the winds swished by at up to 140 kmph speed uprooting completely thousands of large trees across the city over a few hours, and some under-sea cables were damaged to severely restrict telephone and internet connectivity!!! The name for this cyclone 'Vardah' means 'Red Rose'... and what a red rose it turned out to be with the total damage pegged at 2 billion USD :-(

In 2016, Cyclone Vardah rocked the Chennai and left behind destruction. But out of that, was born the most iconic aspect of a private mango Farms. The 156ft (~47 meters) long table, built of felled Casuarina and Eucalyptus wood, is a testament to the perseverance of the community after such a painful experience. Conceptualised by design Studios, on the farm, it epitomizes the philosophy to “Create Value from Waste”.
Day before Chennai was thrashed by Cyclone Vardah. While sky was filled with rain clouds, drizzle about to start, Pallavan Express from Chennai has been made to skip Paranur in 15kmph due to TSR.
The iron rod above the constructing building, which is almost 90 degree to ground is now bend and is almost parallel to ground. Force of Vardah

Everyday I am travelling in this route only. Today first time I have seen that these birds are standing on the wall as group. I felt that they might lost their nest in Vardah Cyclone. Many trees were uprooted in the cyclone. So they don't have trees to rebuild their nest.
