City landscape of Nizhny Novgorod.
Kanavinsky Bridge is the oldest permanent crossing over the Oka and Grebnevsky Canal in Nizhny Novgorod. It is located at 1.2 km of the river, next to the Strelka - the confluence of the Oka and Volga. It connects two parts of the city - Nagornaya and Zarechnaya. Initially it was called Pakhomovsky, then after a short time it became Oksky, and after the opening of the second Molitovsky bridge in 1965, it was renamed Kanavinsky - after the name of the district.
Until the beginning of the 19th century. the townspeople traveled to the Kanavino area and back by ferry and boats, and in winter they crossed over the ice. The urgent need for a crossing between the two banks of the Oka was ripe after the fair was moved to the other side - to the Zarechnaya part of Nizhny Novgorod, to Strelka. From mid-July to early September, the Gostiny Dvor was visited by more than 150 thousand people, while the city's population was no more than 18 thousand inhabitants. The decision to build a permanent crossing was made in 1920, but work began only 10 years later. The bridge was built in Nizhny Novgorod in 1.5 years from 1932 to 1933, but the official time frame is 5 years. The Kanavinsky Bridge has an arched structure: the load is distributed between six arches, over which transport and pedestrian traffic is carried out. The massive pillars are made of metal concrete, the road surface is made of asphalt concrete. The Kanavinsky Bridge is 795.5 m long and 23.6 m wide.
The arch bridge survived two German bombings and escaped serious damage thanks to the use of a smoke screen. In the post-war years, the coating and structures were repaired several times, but without blocking traffic.
What would a review of the year be without a visit to you, my favorite pine tree at my favorite place, the small mt. Winter in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
This year, to my great regret, I was only able to visit her once. I will definitely do this again next spring. Just to see how she is doing in a photo taken with my new camera.
Oh no, I'm just realizing how many places I urgently need to visit again for this reason.

This is a thank you I did for Bela, Eva and Elly for their work in bringing us all the exciting new Riverbridge Cafe.

Just for fun:
on a walk with Bedouins in Sinai: the mobile phone rings, everything stops ... and the dog lies in the shadow of the camel.
And the connection was better out there 10 years ago than it is today in many places in Germany.
Danke für deinen Besuch! Thanks for visiting!

The former spa hotel Fürstenhof is a hotel complex in the southern quarter of the city of Eisenach in Thuringia. The buildings, which have been vacant since the mid-1990s, are in a ruinous condition. According to the ruling of the administrative court in Meiningen at the end of August 2021, the building may be demolished along with the ancillary buildings.
Investigations in 2000 and 2003 concluded that renovation was uneconomical. In 2004, the listed building status for the building complex was revoked - also in view of the structural decay and architectural losses during the GDR era.
To prevent a collapse, the ceiling of the foyer is completely supported with beams.

Running late for a gala performance?
That's possible - Australian Magpie, being one of Australia's most accomplished songbirds, has got lots of commitments.

Ah! Snacks! That is something in my diet that I am trying to tackle! Since Lockdown my love of sweet, sugary snacks has blossomed, along with my waistline! So finding alternatives has become urgent, and surprisingly difficult! Sugar, salt and fat are everywhere. My latest find is these nuts and seeds together with nori seaweed and maple syrup. I am hoping for great results, as rice cakes do get boring after a while!

This is one of three low quality shots taken on an old iPhone 6S. More recent phones have much better low light performance!
With the number of Covid cases increasing alarmingly, it seems inevitable that we are heading for another lockdown. Consequently, I feel a renewed sense of urgency to get outside and on the trail as often as we can. Here, focusing on the moment comes much easier.

You play tricks on my mind
You're everywhere, but you're so hard to find
You're not warm or sentimental
You're so extreme, you can be so temperamental
