On Jamaa El Fna Avenue in Marrakesh, horse-drawn carriages coexist with pedestrian traffic, connecting the medina to the large square, an important public space in the Maghreb. These carriages, typical of tourism, maintain a form of pre-automotive mobility, although they raise debates about regulation and animal welfare. The 77-meter minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, rising in the background, has been a historical landmark since the 12th century and has influenced the architecture of monuments such as the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat. Classified by UNESCO, the area reflects outdoor cultural and performing practices, where the preservation of historical heritage coexists with daily life. The caleches, with their red upholstery and characteristic structure, are a symbol of local tradition and offer visitors a picturesque way to explore both the old Medina and the new city (Guéliz), exemplifying the harmony between past and present in the urban vitality of Marrakesh.
the thermos gives him away. not a tourist, not a visitor. just someone who has learned that the first train is the quiet one, that the red frame fits through the doors if you angle it right, that coffee from home tastes better than anything the station sells. he steps up without looking back. the city waits on both ends of the line.

While sheltering from the sudden downpour, I spotted this family of four navigating the rainy night streets on their scooter, and I couldn't help but smile at the beautiful absurdity of their situation. What captivated me was the brilliant red cape enveloping them all—with only the driver able to see where they were going, while the rest of the family was completely hidden underneath, trusting blindly in their journey. This moment perfectly encapsulated the improvisational spirit I've come to admire in everyday Vietnamese life. I wanted to frame them against the warm glow of the restaurant, creating a contrast between those weathering the elements and those sheltering from them. The rain-slicked streets reflecting the lights added that cinematic quality I was hoping for. To me, this image represents far more than just a family commute—it's about blind trust, familial bonds, and the extraordinary ingenuity of ordinary people facing everyday challenges. There's something both humorous and deeply moving about this common sight that tourists might miss but that reveals the true character of urban life here.
