I drove up to the city to catch some photos of life in the urban jungle, and then I remembered a Chinese joint over on Washington Street where you can eat Hot Pot until your stomach goes into revolt. That is how I came to this gritty section of town, a man with a camera, on a mission for photos and a little Hot Pot. I found the photos and I found the Hot Pot. My stomach can offer testimony to the latter.

The unseen Itchen Bridge.
Woolston,
Southampton, UK
This view contrasts sharply with the sweeping elegance of the bridge over the River Itchen. It links the suburb of Woolston to the main city of Southampton and opened in 1977, replacing a 'floating bridge' vehicle ferry.

Late night in the city. The realm of souls too troubled to sleep. A gritty alleyway--not a bad alleyway if you don't mind the fetid sludge that sticks to your shoes like chewing gum gone wrong--not a bad alleyway if you don't mind the pungent smell of the trash cans and the chatter of the rats. Late night in the city. A time when a man can be alone to fester with his thoughts.

flood defenses along Wallasey beach, Merseyside with Liverpool harbour and docks on the opposite site of the river Mersey.
a fleeting moment where elegance cuts through the shadows of the city, her white dress glowing like defiance against the rough skin of the streets.

two children walk side by side, their quiet steps echoing through the dim, urban tunnel. the neon lights overhead flicker, casting faint reflections on the polished tiles. they carry remnants of the day—perhaps candy or toys—but their faces betray a mix of focus and weariness. the world around them, grimy and shadowed, feels far too vast for their small figures. they walk together, yet somehow the space between them and the city stretches infinitely. everything is still, but something about their path feels unresolved—like a passage through the unspoken loneliness of a city night.
