The Golden-breasted Starling (Lamprotornis regius, too Cosmopsarus regius), also known as Royal Starling, is a medium-sized bird in the starling family.
The bird is 30-37.5 cm long and the wingspan is 11.5-13 cm.
The adult has a metallic green head and upperback, bright golden yellow breast and belly, dark bill and legs, white eyes and metallic violet blue on wings, back, neck and its long tail feathers.
The sexes are similar.
The Golden-breasted Starling is distributed to the grassland, savanna and shrubland of East Africa, from Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and northern Tanzania. Its diet consists mainly of insects and termites. The Golden-breasted Starling is a social animal, living in groups of three to twelve individuals.
Adult birds catch insects in flight and dig up termite mounds to find prey. Termites being a favorite.

These are a copy of three birds (cranes) from a painting in my grandparents' house.
Done by Tomek and designed by Mixer from Szerytattoo in Warsaw, Poland, based on the painting. They did an amazing job copying them onto my skin exactly as they are on the picture.
They're my third tattoo. The photo was taken on day 1.

BIG MIRACLE!! -MARIE ROSE FERRON is bowing the MOST SHE HAS EVER BOWED- SO MUCH SO SHE CAN'T STAND ON HER OWN!!! This picture shows, she bows at her feet, ankles & knees, the base is straight which I will show in another picture, her ankles, feet & knees bow so much, she pulls the base inward as you can see here. You can compare this with pictures of the same that I took of her last year in her first bow!! I had to tie her up to fence in order to protect her from falling again on Mamma Mary as I found her on 08 July 2007 at 11 am. She can't stand up at all she's bowing so much! My documentation of her measurements are as follows:
11 May 2007- 21 1/2 inches new style, 23 inches old style
08 July 2007- UNMEASURABLE- she's is bowing so much that she won't stand and continuously falls over. Best measurement I can give is over 24 inches as that was when she could stand (estimated over 25 inches). She also changed her body form postioning as she leans & turns to right towards Mamma Mary as well yet still bows to her Jesus! She is smiling profoundly with a beautfiul smile and her head, neck, and upperback even is bowing downwards! Her head is definately humbled in prayer to Jesus! I have never seen her this way am in extreme awe of it! I cleaned the Holy Family Garden up, weeding, straightening, and put in red cedar chips with white rocks around roses from the 8th-12th.
12 July 2007- Measured Rose with Ray to be 26 inches new style and 27 1/2 inches old style. Took pictures and video to show how she can't stand up & how she bows. will post it soon on youtube & flickr & will put address here so you can view it...
14 July 2007- Went to show Shirley how Rose was bowing so much, how she can't stand and remeasured her. She bowed another 1 1/2 inches more!! Sweet Jesus, you are so good to us! Measurement is 27 1/2 inches new style & 29 inches old style!! PRAISE GOD! She is radiating a beauty, my words are not good enough! We make Rose's "Ferron Family" 15 Mystery, Rosary Memorial this afternoon as well as little baby Gabriel's. Posted a picture on flickr of Rose's bowing.
15 July 2007- went on Holy Family Pilgrimage #4 or #5. Went to Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, to Notre Dame Cemetary to take pictures of Rose's family gravestones. Couldn't find them even tho I had right section & plot #'s- Do they have gravestones? maybe not.. will write for more info. I ask Rose to help us and her brother Dona. They answer immediately through Lin & Ray, as they were guided to Dona and his wife Yvonne! Thank you!! Took pictures of them & some beautiful stones about them. Leave going to New Bedford Fair. Received gift from Ma- a stone for Holy Family garden with cross & white dove on it. Placed in 'Holy Family' garden.

The month of July is "the month of PRECIOUS BLOOD" in which 'MARIE ROSE FERRON, STIGMATIST, MYSTIC, BI-LOCATOR, INTERCEDOR, VICTIM SOUL for the PROVIDENCE DIOCESE, Woonsocket, Providence, RI. suffered in Christs PRECIOUS WOUNDS very much every day this month! 20 JUly 2007 is coming up which was her very 1st ANNIVERSARY BOW last year 2006!! It is very special day as It was the Annivesary of her sister's BIRTHday (CORINNE (FERRON) IMBEAU) being born 20 JULY 1905. CORIN is also my daughter's name & GABRIEL was also my 1st grandbaby's name BORN this year in a strange set of coincidences. Gabriel would sadly die & be buried miraculously in front of a BISHOP'S MEMORIAL that says "PRAY THE ROSARY FOR ABORTED CHILDREN" which is also very ironic because Rose's beloved friend & later- persecutor- ALICE D. (TROTTIER) GUERIN, on 20 JULY had started a ABORTION that lasted for 8 DAYS- til the 28 JULY which is the EXACT DATES THIS STATUE BOWED & PRAY to SACRED HEART OF JESUS!! Rose bowed 24 inches from 8 inches 20 JULY 2006- 28 JULY 2006 FOR 8 DAYS! Things get stranger as on the 8th day, the 28 July 2006, it just so happened to be the ANNIVERSARY of Fa. Emile Leonard's MASS that he said at Rose's house on the very day she first bowed which was the START OF PERSECUTION from JEALOUSY as her Priest- Fa. Gedeon Laverdiere, wanted to be Rose's only SPIRITUAL director & CONFESSOR! This PERSECUTION came to a head on 09 OCTOBER when Fa. Emile Leonard came all the way from Canada to say another MASS at Rose's house and when he got there, to his deep sad findings, he would be DENIED to say MASS! O9 OCTOBER is another very special day here, as it is the ANNIVERSARY of MY ABORTION of Peewasu meaning "LITTLE ONE"!! These words I have stressed seem to be the 'MESSAGE" that Rose & ST. Gabriel & the Holy Family of God are giving. It is too much of a coincidence in my opinion! God works in the most mysterious & Miraculous sweet ways and the words I have stressed keep coming up. So Moving has Marie Rose Ferron become, she brings tears to my eyes for great joy. She is so powerfully moving right now Bowing her head for the first time so dramatically at her neck & shoulderblades and bowing to her Jesus at her ankles and knees so much that she can't stand up alone and is basically unmeasurable! And lastly she has "twisted" to lean on Mamma Mary! I can't get over how she changed her body positioning form! Even my husband was taken back when he first saw her as I cried for help sitting on the ground trying to hold her up (I was too weak from pneumonia). He came running over thinking she's just bowing like she normally does, but when he saw her, he was shocked, forgot I asked for help, LOL, and kneeled to ground pointing out "Look she's bowing dramatically at her knees and ankles!". LOLOL. I had to laugh- he was so amazed that he forgot I was asking for help! Finally we gained composure & he did help me, LOLOL...

Best measurement I can give is over 24 inches as that was when she could stand (estimated over 25 inches). She also changed her body form postioning as she leans & turns to right towards Mamma Mary as well yet still bows to her Jesus! She is smiling profoundly with a beautfiul smile and her head, neck, and upperback even is bowing downwards! Her head is definately humbled in prayer to Jesus! I have never seen her this way am in extreme awe of it! I cleaned the Holy Family Garden up, weeding, straightening, and put in red cedar chips with white rocks around roses from the 8th-12th.

Refreshing reminder of how to properly break an opponent's closed guard as well as a brief reminder of how apply pressure while attempting an armbar from ones closed-guard.
Techniques:
1. While advancing from knee on the belly, it is important to be weary of ones arm positioning. When facing off against a skilled opponent, an opponent can attempt an armbar while defending a knee on the belly. It is possible to get caught with an athletic opponent's armbar if one were to leave ones arm that is closes to ones knee, on the opponent's belt.
It would be sensible to use ones arm to secure the opponents hip, rather than their belt to prevent any potential attacks.
2. When securely controlling ones opponent from the knee on the belly position, advance to mount or attempt a submission.
Jessie-Choke: While knee is on the belly or when side control is acquired, use ones arm closes to the opponents head to grab a tight grip on the collar underneath the opponent's head. The next step is to rotate north/south against the opponent as a means to reach the opposite side. When this is accomplished, the grip is turned into a paper-cutter style choke. If the opponent defends this choke, return to north/south and ameliorate the choke by using a shoulder grip and turning the submission into a cross-grip-choke.
3. From an opponent's closed guard, keep a good posture while keeping ones elbows inside and close to ones own body to prevent any attempted attacks. Maintain a strong base to withstand any sweeps.
Advice Given: Rock ones body side to side in order to get to ones feet. While stepping upward with the remaining leg, make sure to keep a good base; keep ones back arched to prevent injury from lifting the opponent; all while remaining weary of any attempts of a sweep from the opponent.
While standing, the opponent may have secured a tight closed guard. From this position, apply a sufficient amount of pressure to one of the opponent's knees while using gravity to shake the opponent off and thus, breaking the closed guard.
4. From ones closed guard, an armbar is an option that will create openings to other attacks and sweeps, if the armbar attempt fails. To complete an ideal armbar from this position, it is essential to apply a sufficient amount of pressure against the rear of an opponents upperback or neck using a hook.
Important: Create little room between the opponent and oneself to prevent the opponent from posturing and thus defending the armbar. It is essential to lift ones hips while applying a secure hook to maintain control during this maneuver.
Ones other leg will be utilizing the opponent's hip to pivot. Once perpendicular to ones opponent, throw the pivoting leg over ones opponent face and around their head, while pinching ones knees together. Lift ones hip to apply pressure to complete the armbar submission.
5. In the event that the opponent pulls their arm out from the armbar attack, it is important to maintain the hook pressure, while lifting ones hip to prevent space from forming between oneself and the opponent. Use this position to throw ones opposite leg over and around the opponent's head to close and complete a triangle submission.
6. Advanced Technique: When attempting an armbar from closed guard, an opponent may defend their arm by pulling it away. When this occurs, utilize athleticism to shoot ones falling leg through opponent's head and shoulders, all while maintaining a strong grip on the arm that was originally intended for attack. After shooting ones falling leg through the opponent's head and shoulders, apply a hook while applying pressure with ones hips to drag the opponent down. At this point, the thigh from ones hook should already be touching the mat. From this new position, attempt a triangle submission from the back and finish the opponent.
Note To Self: Work on open guard with higher ranks at the next session.

36 hours after I noticed the 1st spot. I had assumed I had had chickenpox as a child - obviously not. I've got it bad! You start off feeling out-of-sorts. Then you get a headache that lasts for 2-3 days then unpleasent painful spots appear with bouts of weakness & dissiness. The Brown Shrike, Lanius cristatus is a bird in the shrike family that is found mainly in Asia. It forms a superspecies with the closely-related Red-backed Shrike, L. collurio, and Isabelline Shrike, L. isabellinus. Like most other shrikes, it has a distinctive black "bandit-mask" through the eye. and is found mainly in open scrub habitats, where it perches on the tops of thorny bushes in search of prey. Several populations of this widespread species form distinctive subspecies which breed in temperate Asia and migrate to their winter quarters in tropical Asia. They are sometimes found as vagrants in Europe and North America
This shrike is mainly brown on the upper parts and the tail is rounded. The black mask can be paler in winter and has a white brow over it. The underside is creamy with rufous flanks and belly. The wings are brown and lack any white mirror patches. Females have fine scalloping on the underside and the mask is dark brown and not as well marked as in the male. Subspecies lucionensis has a grey crown shading into the brown upperparts and the rump appears more rufous than the rest of the upperback.[2]
A number of confusing forms are known from central Asia where the populations of cristatus, isabellinus and collurio overlap.[3]
The nominate form breeds in northern Asia from Mongolia to Siberia and winters in South Asia, Myanmar and the Malay Peninsula. The race confusus described from the same region is not well marked but is said to have a wider white brow and paler upperparts and is sometimes included within the nominate population. Subspecies superciliosus (sometimes called the Japanese Shrike) breeds on the islands of Sakhalin, Kuril and Japan and winters in Hainan, Sumatra, Java, and the Sundas. The Golden-breasted Starling, Cosmopsarus regius also known as Royal Starling is a medium-sized, up to 35cm long, passerine in the starling family. The adult has a metallic green head and upperback, bright golden yellow breast and belly, dark bill and legs, white iris and metallic violet blue on wings, back, neck and its long tail feathers. Both sexes are similar. The young is duller than adult.

The Golden-breasted Starling is distributed to the grassland, savanna and shrubland of East Africa, from Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and northern Tanzania.
The Golden-breasted Starling is a social animal, living in groups of three to twelve individuals. Its diet consists mainly of insects and termites. The Golden-breasted Starling molts once a year, after the breeding season.
The female usually lays between three to five pale green eggs with red speckles. It nests in tree holes. The nest is made from leaves, roots and other vegetation matters.

Subspecies lucionensis has a grey crown shading into the brown upperparts and the rump appears more rufous than the rest of the upperback. The tail is more brownish and not as reddish as in the Red-backed Shrike. Younger birds of lucionensis have brown crown and lacks the grey on the head. Supspecies superciliosus has a broad white supercilium and richer reddish crown. The tail is redder and tipped in white.
A number of confusing forms are known from central Asia where the populations of cristatus, isabellinus and collurio overlap. The taxonomy has been in a state of flux and some forms such as phoenicuroides formerly considered as subspecies of L. cristatus have been moved to the species L. isabellinus.
> Distribution
The nominate form breeds in northern Asia from Mongolia to Siberia and winters in South Asia, Myanmar and the Malay Peninsula. The race confusus described from the same region is not well marked but is said to have a wider white brow and paler upperparts and is sometimes included within the nominate population. Subspecies superciliosus (sometimes called the Japanese Shrike) breeds on the islands of Sakhalin, Kuril and Japan and winters in Hainan, Sumatra, Java, and the Sundas. Subspecies lucionensis, sometimes known as the Philippine Shrike, breeds in Korea and eastern China wintering mainly in Taiwan, Philippines but also on the Andaman Islands and in peninsular India. Suggestions that the species may breed in the Cachar Hills of Assam by E. C. Stuart Baker based on memory have been questioned.
This species is rare in Europe and vagrants have been recorded in the USA and Canada.
> Behaviour and ecology
The Brown Shrike is a migratory species and ringing studies show that they have a high fidelity to their wintering sites, returning to the same locations each winter. They begin establishing wintering territories shortly on arrival and their loud chattering or rattling calls are distinctive. Birds that arrive early and establish territories appear to have an advantage over those that arrive later in the winter areas. The timing of their migration is very regular with their arrival in winter to India in August to September and departure in April. During their winter period, they go through a premigratory moult. Their song in the winter quarters is faint and somewhat resembles the call of the Rosy Starling and often includes mimicry of other birds. The beak remains closed when singing and only throat pulsations are visible although the bird moves its tail up and down while singing.
The breeding season is late May or June and the breeding habitat includes the taiga, forest to semi-desert where they build a nest in a tree or bush, laying 2-6 eggs.
They feed on mainly on insects, especially lepidoptera. Like other shrikes, they impale prey on thorns. Small birds and lizards are also sometimes preyed on. A white-eye (Zosterops) has been recorded in its larder. They typically look out for prey from a perch and fly down towards the ground to capture them.
