Kaiyuansi (開元寺) temple was originally built in 7th century AD during the Tang period. It had two wooden stupas. They were rebuilt with stones in 13th century imitating the original wooden structures. It is an unthought-of idea.

Seen on a pavement in London. Either done by a child with lovely handwriting (privileged to have had a good education?). Or possibly done by an adult (in which case how mature is it for an adult to be writing on pavements?)
It does seem that of late so many people are encouraging others to bypass their critical thinking faculties. I wonder why people are being encouraged to take on a new religion of 'unthought'.
Are some people afraid of others just thinking because their idea(s) won't stand up to basic scrutiny?

This is and isn't related to this photograph. For pretty well the first time ever people are creeping into my photographs. This hasn't been by conscious design,just something that has occurred. And that's the way I like it,something that is natural,pretty well unthought of. Which means I really don't know how it will continue,if it well continue. I suspect it may just because part of me definitely likes it. This doesn't need to be said and maybe it does: I see beautiful and wonderful photography of people,so so beautiful; I also have seen photography under the guise of realism/street photography. The one elevates people,the other seems opportunistic,uncaring about who is photographed and their condition in life,seemingly only zoned in on a photo opportunity. I don't need to say what I think of that. Photography,movies, any art,should bring light and hope in the midst of darkness,and there is a way to do that always.

I think RF567, in dismal unrelieved National green, may have been the only one in use at Grays garage at the time (Jan 1976). Today the link eastwards from here is provided by frequent TfL route 372, though admitedly it only goes as far as Lakeside. Of course Lakeside Shopping Centre was then unthought of!

Another shot from my gloom-overcast but oh-so-ravishing first trip to Scotland. It was Monday 18th October 1976 and it must've been getting on time to step it out for Glasgow Central station and my train back to Bristol. Everything was planned with military precision. Meticulous about any kind of written work, I would have been carrying in my back pocket a digest of the relevant train times, copied with a Staedtler Mars-Lumograph B-grade pencil from the BR all-regions timetable onto a sheet of paper from a spiral-bound notebook, ruled feint. No "back of an envelope" stuff for me. I'd come from Edinburgh. Google Maps was unthought-of in those days and I had probably made a trip to the Central Library in Bristol to sketch a map of the route, on foot, from Killermont Street bus station ...which I knew to be across the road from Queen Street station, where I'd arrive from Edinburgh... to Anderston Cross and thence to Glasgow Central. Meanwhile there was time to attempt a few snaps in Glasgow's early afternoon nightfall, of such noble vehicles as this: a 1959 Leyland Titan PD3/3 with Alexander lowbridge bodywork, in the fleet of Western SMT and carrying that company's noble livery and lettering. I returned the following May (better light), but I never saw another of these, or of the "St Helens front" Titans in Alexander Midland livery that I'd seen at Dundas Street (my only photo had been spoiled by camera-shake) and Dundas Street itself had gone, Killermont Street too.

I wanted to add an aside: I chose the "Starry, Starry night" theme for three reasons, I just love Van Gogh, whom the song is about, and I just love this song. I dont know why, its not a music genre I listen to, but I think I love it because my father always did when I was growing up and this created one of the unthought of invisible bonds that often link us to those we love. Its the little tiny long forgotten happy, and sometimes sad, memories of youth that hold our love, our lives together and make us who we are. Happy Father's day to all of the dads out there. Remember, it is your guidance that will form the happiness and sadness in the lives of your little ones, so handle them with love, honor, and care.
And third, for those who are sad, or isolated there is help, and where there is help there is hope. MuWah! <33

A map ...technically, I learn from Wikipedia, a topological diagram... of the London Underground, scanned from the 1965 free leaflet featured in my previous picture. The map derives from the original designed in 1933 by Harry Beck. Beck's map had been succeeded in 1960 by an unsuccessful design by Harold Hutchinson (see next photo); the version seen here, designed by Paul Garbutt, followed in 1964.
As previously mentioned the system has changed considerably since 1965. The East London and the Hammersmith & City Lines were part of the Metropolitan; the Stanmore branch of the Bakerloo has become the northern end of the Jubilee; the Finsbury Park branch of the Northern Line is now part of the main line system. The Victoria Line was under construction, and I see that I marked its route in pencil, probably during one of my dissociative trances at school ...a Maths lesson most likely. The Jubilee Line was unthought of, and I seem to remember that when it was first proposed the intended route was beneath Strand and Fleet Street. Surprisingly these thoroughfares, historically the main link between Westminster and the City, have never had a counterpart on the underground system. The line was originally built into Charing Cross, as though onward extension to the City was envisaged, but in the end it was decided to put it through inner South London instead. The Victoria Line also was extended south of the river. The Jubilee and Victoria Lines have increased the underground's presence south of the Thames, but it remains principally a North London phenomenon. In South London its niche in the transport ecology is filled by the suburban lines of what used to be the Southern Region of British Railways.
Other, less thoroughgoing changes since 1965 are the extension of the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow Airport, the loss of the Aldwych shuttle and the remodelling of the lines around Charing Cross. Strand station, on the Northern Line, was so close to Charing Cross that you could see the platforms of one from the other ...in my experience a peculiarity unique in London, certainly on the tube lines. Strand had been the original terminus of the line from North London, but the station had been retained when the line was extended. Strand closed in 1973 so that alterations could be made in readiness for the Jubilee Line. As I remember it Charing Cross was then renamed Embankment but after the Jubilee was diverted away in 1999 a connection was made between the Bakerloo's Trafalgar Square station and the old Strand platforms to make a revived Charing Cross. Whatever happened to that detached part of the Central Line, from Epping to Ongar?
They sang "Falling Slowly" which is Glen's song from Swell Season. We've seen Glen 3 times now and never this subdued in concert. I didn't talk to one person who knew who he was. We are big fans of his / SS & Frames. He made a lot of new fans this night. He was great.

Dear friend,
O the pleasure, wonder, and delight when the dear Comforter brings to my remembrance the way He has led me these forty years in this dreary wilderness—the helps He has afforded me; His never-failing mercy in supplying me; His omnipotent power in keeping me; His unwearied patience in bearing with my devilish, crooked ways; His never-failing faithfulness, notwithstanding all my unbelief. It is of His mercies and His unfailing compassion—that I am not consumed. I am confident that it is because He changes not, that such a worm as I am—is not consumed. For I am sure there never was such a stubborn, refractory, stupid, rebellious, proud, presumptuous, blind fool as I am!
My dear friend, it is here where my poor soul wishes to be living and dying—enrapt up in the bosom of everlasting love! O what sweetness to have drops out of this fathomless sea, this boundless river! And, if the drops are so sweet, so soul ravishing, so sin subduing, so devil conquering, so world vanquishing, and so God glorifying; what must it be to be brought to the fountain-head!
