Sant’Elia is a small fraction of the municipality of Santa Flavia, in the province of Palermo.

This bay owes its name to the Vitaloca stream, which, like all dialectal adaptations, has transformed the name into Guidaloca.
It has a white pebble beach and looks like an arch on the coast; is characterized by crystal clear waters and shallow waters and make this bay a destination for all tourists in the summer.
Located in the territory of Castellammare del Golfo (Tp) not far from the stacks of Scopello and the splendid Oriented Nature Reserve of the Zingaro.

Questa baia deve il suo nome al torrente Vitaloca, che come tutti i riadattamenti dialettali ha trasformato il nome in Guidaloca.
Ha una spiaggia di sassi bianchi e si presenta come un arco sul litorale; è caratterizzato da acque cristalline e bassi fondali e fanno di questa baia una meta per tutti i turisti nel periodo estivo.

The hamlet of Porticello in the municipality of Santa Flavia, from time immemorial owes its economy to fishing and its related activities. From a simple sandstone sampling site necessary for the construction of the noble palaces of the past, it has gradually transformed into the place of residence of a vital small but important fishing community, which, from time to time, have been able to be inventors of fishing systems and discoverers of shoals of more effective exploitation. The initial small community, which grew up around the fishing activity of the ancient tuna fishery of Solanto - one of the oldest fixed tuna traps on the island - has evolved over time, facing, a little out of necessity and a little out of desire to new entrepreneurial experiences, including the field of the first conservation and transformation of the fish.

La frazione di Porticello del comune di Santa Flavia, da tempo immemorabile deve la sua economia all’attività di pesca ed al suo indotto. Da semplice sito di prelievo di arenaria necessaria per la costruzione dei palazzi nobiliari di un tempo, si è trasformata, via via, in luogo di residenza di una vitale piccola ma importante comunità di pescatori, che, di volta in volta, hanno saputo essere inventori di sistemi di pesca e scopritori di banchi di più efficace sfruttamento. La iniziale piccola comunità, cresciuta intorno all’attività di pesca dell’antica tonnara di Solanto – una delle più antiche tonnare fisse dell’isola-, si è evoluta nel tempo, affrontando, un po’ per necessità e un po’ per voglia di nuove esperienze imprenditoriali, anche il campo della prima conservazione e trasformazione del pescato.
It is located in the heart of the city, near the central Via Maqueda and Piazza Pretoria.
In its perimeter (here on the left) there are two churches, Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio (commonly known as "La Martorana") and San Cataldo, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The baroque church of Santa Caterina, the Bellini Theater and the rear elevation of the Palazzo Pretorio, seat of the Municipality of Palermo, also overlook the square.

Si trova nel cuore della città, in prossimità della centralissima Via Maqueda e di Piazza Pretoria.
Nel suo perimetro (qui sulla sinistra ) si trovano due chiese ,Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio (comunemente nota come "La Martorana") e San Cataldo, entrambe patrimonio dell'umanità dell'UNESCO .
Sulla piazza si affacciano anche la chiesa barocca di Santa Caterina, il Teatro Bellini ed il prospetto posteriore del Palazzo Pretorio, sede del Comune di Palermo.

Sferracavallo is a seaside village of Palermo, at the foot of the promontory of Capo Gallo on one side and of Monte Billiemi on the other.
It is located on the northern border of Palermo, near Mondello.
A good part of the territory of Sferracavallo is included in the oriented reserve of Capo Gallo; the stretch of sea, which bathes the seaside village, is part of the Capo Gallo-Isola delle Femmine Marine Protected Area.

Si trova al confine nord di Palermo, nelle vicinanze di Mondello.
Una buona parte del territorio di Sferracavallo è inserito nella riserva orientata di Capo Gallo; il tratto di mare, che bagna la borgata marinara, fa parte dell'Area Marina Protetta Capo Gallo-Isola delle Femmine.

Monte Pellegrino has always been considered a sacred mountain by the people of Palermo.
On this mountain lived the last years of his life a young noblewoman, a certain Rosalia, who had decided to live as a hermit.
He died on 4 September 1160 or 1165.
On July 15, 1624, while the plague was scourging Palermo, Rosalia's bones were found in a cave in the mountain. The relics were carried in procession and the plague was defeated. Rosalia became the patron saint of the city, the “Santuzza”, and the Sanctuary was built around the cave.

Monte Pellegrino è stato sempre considerato dai palermitani un monte sacro.
Su questa montagna visse gli ultimi anni della sua vita una giovane nobildonna, tale Rosalia, la quale aveva deciso di vivere da eremita.
Morì il 4 settembre del 1160 o 1165.
Il 15 Luglio 1624, mentre la peste flagellava Palermo, le ossa di Rosalia furono ritrovate in una grotta della montagna. Le reliquie furono portate in processione e la peste venne sconfitta. Rosalia divenne la santa patrona della città, la “Santuzza”, e attorno alla grotta venne eretto il Santuario.
The port of Mondello, a fishing village near Palermo, is located in the northern tip of the gulf of the same name and is set against the eastern side of Monte Gallo.
It is a fixed quay located exactly in front of the main square of the district and has a large area for port machinery and for bringing boats ashore.
Initially born as a fishing port, it later became largely a tourist port.

Il porto di Mondello, borgo di pescatori vicino Palermo, è situato nella punta nord dell'omonimo golfo ed è addossato al versante orientale di Monte Gallo.
Si tratta di una banchina fissa posta esattamente di fronte alla piazza principale del quartiere e dispone di un grosso spiazzo per i macchinari portuali e per portare le barche in secca.
Inizialmente nato come porto di pescatori, è divenuto in seguito in buona parte porto turistico.

The photo is completely unposed. We just choose different routes during the evening walk with my wife. This time we went to the beach and there was a dog playing in the sand on the beach with his owners - and so we have this painting.
This beautiful Music Stage, built in Moorish style, is located inside the Villa Vittorio Emanuele Public Garden in Caltagirone (CT).
This Public Garden, renowned for being one of the largest in Sicily, was built in 1846 by Giovan Battista Filippo Basile, taking the prestigious English Parks as a source of inspiration.
Beautiful paths surrounded by wonderful trees and exotic plants make up the rich vegetation, to which are added splendid ornamental installations, including terracotta vases, Sicilian majolica and the inevitable Caltagirone Ceramics, true excellence of local craftsmanship.

Questo bellissimo Palco Musicale, realizzato in stile moresco, sorge all’interno del Giardino Pubblico Villa Vittorio Emanuele di Caltagirone (CT) .
Questo Giardino Pubblico, rinomato per essere tra i piu’ grandi della Sicilia, venne realizzata nel 1846 ad opera di Giovan Battista Filippo Basile, prendendo come fonte di ispirazione i prestigiosi Parchi inglesi.
Splendidi sentieri contornati dai meravigliosi alberi e piante esotiche compongono la ricca vegetazione, a cui si aggiungono splendide installazioni ornamentali, tra vasi in terracotta, maioliche siciliane e le immancabili Ceramiche di Caltagirone, vere e proprie eccellenze dell’artigianato locale.

Il Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele, meglio noto come Teatro Massimo, di Palermo è il più grande edificio teatrale lirico d'Italia, uno dei più grandi d'Europa e terzo per ordine di grandezza architettonica dopo l'Opéra National di Parigi e la Staatsoper di Vienna. Ambienti di rappresentanza, sale, gallerie e scale monumentali circondano il teatro vero e proprio, formando un complesso architettonico di enormi proporzioni.
The fountain was created in 1554 by the Florentine sculptor Francesco Camilliani for the garden of the Spanish nobleman Don Luigi Toledo, the father in law of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de ' Medici.
Some twenty years later, it was sold to the Palermitan Senate to cope with The Toledo family‘s troubled debt situation and arrived in the old town in 1574.
Piazza of Shame, as Palermitans commonly call Piazza Pretoria, takes its name from the great amount of money that Palermo Senate had to pay for this purchase, though it is said that it is due to the nakedness of bodies.
It seems that the inhabitants of Palermo when the members of the Senate came out of the Palace shouted: "Shame, Shame" because of the sad historical moment of misery, epidemics and famine which characterized those years.

La fontana fu realizzata nel 1554 dallo scultore fiorentino Francesco Camilliani per il giardino del nobile spagnolo Don Luigi Toledo, suocero del Granduca di Toscana Cosimo I de' Medici.
Circa vent'anni dopo, fu venduto al Senato palermitano per far fronte alla travagliata situazione debitoria della famiglia Toledo e arrivò nel centro storico nel 1574.
Piazza della Vergogna, come comunemente chiamano i palermitani Piazza Pretoria, prende il nome dalla grande somma di denaro che il Senato di Palermo dovette pagare per questo acquisto, anche se si dice che sia dovuto alla nudità dei corpi.
Sembra che i palermitani quando i membri del Senato uscirono dal Palazzo gridassero: "Vergogna, vergogna" per il triste momento storico di miseria, epidemie e carestie che caratterizzò quegli anni.

Ignazio Paternò Castello, fifth prince of Biscari, continued his father Vincenzo's project and enlarged it, buying the adjacent land. His goal was to create a house in order and harmony, which would inspire respect and awe.
Palazzo Biscari has about seven hundred rooms. For centuries, every traveler who arrived in the city, before passing through the Porta Saracena in via Etnea, had to deal with its bulk, embellished with portals and cherubs in limestone (white stone of Syracuse), clear on the ebony-colored walls.

Palazzo Biscari di Catania è un gioiello barocco, tra i piu’ belli della Sicilia .
Fondato sulle mura cinquecentesche della città, ha affascinato epoca dopo epoca tanti visitatori.
Anche Goethe si fermò qui.
I primi lavori di costruzione risalgono al 1702, a seguito del tremendo terremoto del 1693.
Ignazio Paternò Castello, quinto principe di Biscari, continuò il progetto del padre Vincenzo e lo allargò, comprando i terreni attigui. Il suo obiettivo era di realizzare una casa in ordine e armonia, che incutesse rispetto e soggezione.
Palazzo Biscari conta circa settecento stanze. Per secoli, ogni viaggiatore che arrivava in città, prima di passare dalla porta Saracena di via Etnea, doveva fare i conti con la sua mole, impreziosita da portali e putti in pietra calcarea (pietra bianca di Siracusa), netti sui muri color ebano.

The Oriented Natural Reserve of the Saline di Trapani and Paceco is a protected natural area of Sicily that extends for almost 1000 hectares in the territory of the municipalities of Trapani and Paceco.
The reserve, within which the ancient activity of extraction of sea salt is carried out, is an important wetland, which offers shelter to numerous species of migratory birds. It is managed by WWF Italy.
Much of the Reserve is made up of privately owned salt pans, where salt extraction is still practiced according to traditional techniques in use for centuries.
The presence of numerous windmills is of considerable landscape impact.
They are traditionally of different types: those used to pump water between basins, the mill for lifting the water, and finally those for grinding salt crystals.
