What used to be the Coast Guard station building adjacent to marina docks of the town is now the premises for the Elizabeth Oliver Art Center. The ongoing operations of the Great Lakes Coast Guard service carries on nextdoor at the building with brightest red roof, closest to the channel. On the opposite side of the channel (south side) is the land where once stood the twin to Mackinaw Island's Grand Hotel. Today there is little trace of the majestic wooden structure after its short term of service before being destroyed by fire. Elberta Beach in now the prominent part of the cultural geography there.

Traces of last year's beaver lodges are at the left edge of the opening frames. Then the southward view drifts to the right (southwest) before returning to the original line of view. The paved path allows wheeled recreation around much of the park, a former series of gravel mining operations. It also makes walking and running easier in the thawing weather now. As the ground softens, more and more muddy sections stand out elsewhere.
The drone is set to beginner, so the ceiling limit is set at 100 feet (about 30m). But this video clip is probably is little less than that distance AGL (above ground level).

This 100-foot view shows the Lake Michigan horizon perhaps 5 miles away with the fire engine-red steel roof of the U.S. Coast Guard station next to the channel in the center of the photo. By the end of this unseasonably mild September some of the marina berths are now empty as boaters prepare their vessels for winter weather under the protection of indoor storage, or plastic shrink-wrapping, or tied-down tarps over the trailered boat.
In this breakfast-time view the public beach is practically empty, as is the long reach of the breakwater where sometimes people go with fishing poles and landing nets early in the day or at the end of the daylight in hopes of hooking a fish to eat.
At the left (south) edge of the photo is a part of Elberta beach, with its expansive sweep of soft sand shoreline going for miles. This is also the approximate location of the sister hotel to the one still in operation on Mackinac Island, the Grand Hotel, although the Elberta one was consumed in flames only a year and a half or so from its beginning in the late 1800s.

Like the route of Plainfield Avenue NE, the line that Butterworth Street follows is a former Native American path. This view after launching near the bike trails parking area begins with a bluish tint on the sensor, but corrects itself by the end of the video clip. The frame includes a recent building for the Kent County recreation department and the huge cement silos now derelict at the edge of Butterworth as it runs east-west. At the right edge of the frame and in the distance is part of the gravel mining operations.

The Pagasus is a Navy UAV or unmanned aerial vehicle. It is designed to based on an aircraft carrier and to fly over enemy territory to either observe or to engage. Here a Pegasus at sunrise at the China Lake Naval Air Station.
A quirk of the drone upon launch was this slow rotation counter-clockwise all by itself; not controls touched, apart from the video button START and then STOP. Due to ongoing layers of smoke from Canada's wildfires blowing south and drifting east to blanket the Midwest of the USA during the first week of August (AQI of 150 in this video clip), there is richer color at sunrise and sunset. The haze reduces visibility, too.
