An award winning UK based Internet service and telecommunications provider is expanding its Cornwall base as an ambitious marketing strategy starts to bear fruit. CorNetworks, which has a worldwide reputation, has also recently found a demand for its services in Cornwall offering support to the 5% of residents unable to benefit from the Superfast broadband network.
CorNetworks, which was created in 1996, is well known globally, particularly among Apple Mac users. Lauren Baker, who has a BA Honours in Business Enterprise from Cornwall College, was employed by CorNetworks in 2013 as Sales and Marketing Manager under Unlocking Potential. She was given the challenge of spearheading growth, with existing products and services and also with new products in the IT/internet field.
Unlocking Potential receives ESF (European Social Fund) Convergence investment to help graduates boost their career prospects with SMEs (small and medium sized businesses) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. A Combined Universities in Cornwall scheme managed by Cornwall College, it places graduates with businesses in Cornwall to undertake specific projects and offers support including valuable expert mentoring.
Lauren’s key projects were to help with product positioning strategy across the CorNetworks Group (MacAce and MacMate); help plan exhibitions and launch events; play a key role in developing a marketing strategy and to create three sales campaigns in six months.

A multi award winning vineyard has seen its busiest summer ever and launched a new, exclusive wine since employing graduate Sarah Helliwell under the Unlocking Potential (UP) programme.
Camel Valley Ltd, near Bodmin, is a family run business established in 1989 by Bob and Annie Lindo. The company has grown over the last 23 years and distributes its wine all over the UK, including stocking Michelin Starred restaurants. In that time the Lindos have seen the English wine industry snowball and took on Sarah - an anthropology graduate from St Andrew’s University - for a six month UP project to ensure Camel Valley stays ahead of the competition.
UP receives ESF (European Social Fund) Convergence investment to help SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to employ graduates. A Combined Universities in Cornwall scheme managed by Cornwall College, it places graduates with businesses in Cornwall and offers support including valuable expert mentoring for up to six months.
