Its time to unload the bisque from the propane kiln. I have the lid sections on the table. Also, I have removed an extra 3 inch layer of brick that I used to increase the kiln capacity. That is one of the reasons that love this kiln. Its flexibility. Here is the cooling cycle for a bisque.
1. Keep kiln closed up for about 12 hours.
2. Remove the 2 inch fiber blanket from the roof. Crack the fiber over the chimney and around the burner ports.
3.Every few hours, increase the air coming into the kiln by moving the fiber a little more.
4.Start moving the lid sections apart around 200 C.
5.Remove the first lid section around 100 C.
6.The kiln should be cool enough to unload within 18 to 24 hours after completing the firing.
7.Sometimes it is better to wait an additional day to unload. The bisque and the shelves will need to be handled with heavy gloves.
8.It is also a good time to reload the kiln while the lid is open.
9.For a cone 10 firing, wait 36 hours before removing the fiber blanket over the kiln. This will prevent any damage to your glazes or clay bodies.

Stopped at the Vantage Point and Boatnerd Headquarters in Port Huron on our drive to Stratford. My lovely wife let us stay there for almost 90 minutes waiting for ships to come in. Here is the Self-Unloader H. Lee White of the American Steamship Company heading downbound from Lake Huron. It was great as it passed, they announced information about the ship for the people who were inside and outside the Great Lakes Maritime Center or Boatnerd Vantage Point. Taken on Friday August 25th, 2017.

More folks are using bicycles to get to work. While this bike rack isn't full yet, the number of bicycles locked into place here have increased over the past year. Same with the number of scooters and motorcycles.
Everyone's trying to make their money stretch just a bit more.
Bicycles are frequently targets for theft.
Recently, one of my co-workers, who uses a bicycle exclusively to get around, had their means of transportation stolen from this bike rack, during the day. It was locked, with a cable lock like the one int he foreground.
Bill's new bike has a sturdier lock on it, like the black solid lock you see towards the middle of the frame. I hope it works.
