Toruń is one of most attractive and historic towns in Poland.
It is famous for being the birthplace ( in 1474 ) of the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus whose epochal book, De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium is universally regarded as the starting point of modern astronomy.
In 1997 the old medieval quarter of Toruń comprising the Old Town ( 1233 ), the New Town ( 1264 ) and the Teutonic Knights Castle ( mid 13th c. ) was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for having preserved almost intact its original medieval street layout. Toruń is full of Gothic monuments of architecture, all built of brick, such as the Town Hall, The Leaning Tower, numerous churches and many burgher houses around the central market square and the surrounding streets.
If you ever are in Gdańsk on the coast, I recommend driving down to Toruń - it's only 2hrs away on the motorway - the place has a great artistic atmosphere and a lively cafe scene.
The Taj Mahl "crown of palaces",is a white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage".
Taj Mahal is regarded by many as the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian and Indian architectural styles.
In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it is actually an integrated complex of structures. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen. The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision, including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Lahauri is generally considered to be the principal designer.

For the next few days I'll show you some photographs from the Tarkine region in northwest Tasmania. We are in the forest walking towards an incredible formation known as the Trowutta Arch. This photograph is my attempt to capture something of the spirit of this place. Because this forest is truly alive!
My title is not an intended pun, but it is true that since the early 1990s there has been a strong environmental struggle to see the Tarkine recognised as a World Heritage Area. The purpose for this is to protect the forests. I don't intend to labour the debate here, but needless to say, sections of the old forest like this are in no danger at all from either logging or mining. They are universally recognised as places of great importance. But there are disputed areas that continue to be an ongoing battle between forestry, mining and conservation interests. It will be interesting to see how it is resolved.
The best form of protection for natural beauty is to show people photographs of places like this. It feels like home.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
I just had to use this lovely dress that just screams Jane Austen and her beloved character, Elizabeth Bennet.

» (Criss Jamy. Killosophy)

The point of view of a philosopher

This image was taken in Hayfield one at Dungeness RSPB . These birds were first introduced over 300 years ago and groups of escaped birds soon started to live in the wild . They are large bright birds and often referred to as escaped or alien birds that ought not be here . It is funny really when the little owl ( much the smallest owl to be found in Britain ) was released within the last 150 years and seems to be universally loved . The Sun popped out for just a moment while storm Dennis raged its wet and windy way through the south of England I could not believe my luck that this bird was in front of me just at that moment .

The Lloyd's building (sometimes known as the Inside-Out Building) is the home of the insurance institution Lloyd's of London. It is located on the former site of East India House in Lime Street, in London's main financial district, the City of London. The building is a leading example of radical Bowellism architecture in which the services for the building, such as ducts and lifts, are located on the exterior to maximise space in the interior.
In 2011, twenty-five years after its completion in 1986 the building received Grade I listing; at this time it was the youngest structure ever to obtain this status. It is said by Historic England to be "universally recognised as one of the key buildings of the modern epoch". Wiki info.

The Ajanta Caves are 29 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments dating from the second century BCE to about 480 CE in the Aurangabad District of Maharashtra state in India. Universally regarded as masterpieces, the caves include paintings and rock-cut sculptures described as finest examples of ancient Indian art. I toured the caves in 1969 after two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the south of India. By then I had exhausted all my Ektachrome and Kodachrome, and my budget, too, and necessarily resorted to locally-purchased B&W film. The pathways about the 29 caves were being improved at the time. These women were breaking big rocks into small rocks to be mixed with cement for new pathways.
A bird almost universally considered “cute” thanks to its oversized round head, tiny body, and curiosity about everything, including humans. The chickadee’s black cap and bib; white cheeks; gray back, wings, and tail; and whitish underside with buffy sides are distinctive. Its habit of investigating people and everything else in its home territory, and quickness to discover bird feeders, make it one of the first birds most people learn.

"Blue is a universally appealing colour that we can experience in nature, fashion, films, and more. When we think of blue in nature, we have the calm blue sea, the pale blue dot representing earth, our ocean world, and the clear blue sky." ~ Jennifer Okafor

Shot at Nth Stradbroke Island (Australia) on a morning walk. A number of fellow surfers were already immersed in the blue water (bottom RHS), edged with turquoise, enjoying the calm but maybe wishing for bigger waves lol. There are few times in my life that I am speechless. However, on spotting this iridescent bug moving slowly on the wood of a new house, I silently squealed in delight. Dashing into my house to grab my camera, I hoped the bug hadn't disappeared.
Oh happy days! It was still there, waiting for our reunion. It wasn't until I started to learn the identity of this lovely specimen that I learned it wasn't universally celebrated. It is a common wood boring beetle that feeds on various conifer trees. Sigh...and here I was, ready to embrace this new insect. Darn!
The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the right bank of the river Yamuna in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (r. 1628–1658) to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare (42-acre) complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall.
Construction of the mausoleum was essentially completed in 1643, but work continued on other phases of the project for another 10 years. The Taj Mahal complex is believed to have been completed in its entirety in 1653 at a cost estimated at the time to be around ₹32 million, which in 2020 would be approximately ₹70 billion (about U.S. $1 billion). The construction project employed some 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects led by the court architect to the emperor, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Various types of symbolism have been employed in the Taj to reflect natural beauty and divinity.
The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage". It is regarded by many as the best example of Mughal architecture and a symbol of India's rich history. The Taj Mahal attracts more than 6 million visitors a year and in 2007, it was declared a winner of the New 7 Wonders of the World (2000–2007) initiative. (Wikipedia)

There is always something a little bit problematic when you know that you are moved by a picture because it's realted with you own history. When you post picture on social media, what you want is to test the ability of your picture to affect people living anywhere on the globe. For this reason, you want your pictures to be potentially universaly interessant : in other words, you want it to have equal chance to interest someone living in the cold mountains, in a big city, or on a lonely island.
However, sometimes, you can't help finding appealing images that are especially related to you or the specific place where you live, and so you have absolutely no idea how it will affect people living somewhere else… There's probably good reasons to post such pictures anyway – even if it's a little bit 'risky'. 1. For a lot of people, photography, as an art, should be a representation of it's author state of mind. In this sens, it has to be related with is own history. I am not in such a way of thinking, but I can understand it. 2. There's a problem with the 'universally pleasant pictures' : they are very predictable and conventional. You can see tons of them. Of course, they are always pleasing. But paradoxically, if it is true that we like predicable pictures, it's also true that we want photography to show us something that is really different from what we are used to see. Maybe, art starts only when this limit is crossed.
I don't have such pretension with this shot : it's quite predictive and consensual, I agree. But the very reason it moves me it's because it represent the typical landscapes of the place I am coming from. In this nightly snowy version, it achieves to make it cozy and to make me feel 'Home' when I watch it. I have very little idea what kind effect it can create one someone who is not used to such places. Let's see ...

On this day we hear an odd buzzing call and it occured to me that if we waited a Canyon Wren might appear.
"Animal signals mediate social interactions in myriad ways. The majority of studies of avian song have focused on conspicuous, frequently given, signals but infrequently given signals may also have important fitness consequences.
We examined how the usage of a rare signal, canyon wren female song, changed during contest situations and in response to a coordinated duet versus non-coordinated solo songs.
Rates of female song increased significantly during contest situations, but duets did not provoke stronger responses than solos.
Although duets are threatening to species that duet (including many wren species), they do not appear to be universally salient.
Canyon wren female song, in contrast, carries strong signal content despite being used infrequently outside of contest situations. Results highlight the potential functionality of rare signals, as well as the variability in signaling strategies across avian species."
Conspecific challenges provoke female canyon wrens to sing but not to duet [2018]

The Great Highland bagpipe (Scottish Gaelic: a' phìob mhòr) is a type of bagpipe native to Scotland. It has acquired widespread recognition through its usage in the British military and in pipe bands throughout the world.
The bagpipe is first attested in Scotland around 1400, having previously appeared in European artwork in Spain in the 13th century. The earliest references to bagpipes in Scotland are in a military context, and it is in that context that the Great Highland bagpipe became established in the British military and achieved the widespread prominence it enjoys today, whereas other bagpipe traditions throughout Europe, ranging from Portugal to Russia, almost universally went into decline by the late 19th and early 20th century.

These rights are considered inherent and inalienable, meaning they belong to every individual simply by virtue of being human, regardless of characteristics like nationality, ethnicity, religion, or socio-economic status.
They encompass a broad range of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, such as the right to life, freedom of expression, protection against enslavement, and right to education.

This is probably my favourite Silo Art and is one of the highlights of the tiny town of Sea Lake.
The GrainCorp Silos at Sea Lake were painted by Joel Fergie, aka The Zookeeper and Travis Vinson, aka Drapl in October 2019.
Below is the link describing the inspiration for this artwork.

"For millennia this lake has existed, unchanged and untouched. It is a place of wonder and story. In this ever increasing busy day and age, people universally long for space and solitude."
On this particular evening, I decided against going out to photograph sunset. Instead, I sat outside in the lovely shared common area of our accommodation to read my book.
Bloody Murphy's Law kicked in and of course it was the only real sunset colour of the entire trip. I looked up from my book when I noticed the orange reflection on a window. I ran out to peer down the road land saw the Silo Art glowing with colour. I grabbed the camera, put on those stinky thongs and drove down to the art work. Took a wrong turn in my haste and ended up driving onto the adjacent paddock to get to the site ;-). Just making it to catch the artwork set beautifully against the backdrop of the glowing sky.

The Taj Mahal is considered the finest example of a tomb, a style that combines elements of Islamic,[5] Persian,[6] Indian, and even Turkish architecture.[7] This monument has achieved particular notoriety for the romantic nature of its inspiration.[8] Although the mausoleum covered by the white marble dome is the best-known part, the Taj Mahal is a walled complex of buildings that occupies 17 hectares and also includes a large mosque, a guesthouse, and gardens.

Lahauri is generally considered to be the principal designer.

The picture shows the volcano Etna at sunset, a few minutes after the emission of a ring of smoke from the Sud-Est crater, certainly the most active crater in recent years.
The emission of smoke rings is a rare and fascinating fenomenon of which there is not yet a detailed and and universally accepted explanation.
It consists of vortices of smokes and gases capable of creating ring-shaped figures of variable dimensions that often, as in tha case of the photo, have very well defined contours.
It is widely believed that the presence of smoke rings is a signal of an imminent volcanic activity. In fact, about twenty days later this event, Etna was the scene of a violent eruption.

The glaciated remnant of a volcanic plug is a dominant feature of the landscape of northern Tasmania. The powerful weather of this latitude and the uninterrupted fetch of the Southern Ocean to the west produce big seas and strong winds, so The Nut is a vital bulwark against the weather and provides safe anchorage for the fishing fleet in its lee.
While in Stanley, we explored the menus of seafood, starting with scallop pies, next seafood chowder, grilled ocean trout...
And we stayed in the historic Stanley Hotel in a very comfortable room. Eating in their bistro was special too... and for the lover of beef, Cape Grim Rib Eye is worth the price.
As for Circular Head (nowadays the name for the local government area) which has become known as The Nut almost universally today, it was named by Matthew Flinders in 1798 during his voyage of circumnavigation of Tasmania, by which he demonstrated it was an island separated from Australia by Bass Strait. And in my school days in far away Queensland, I knew it by that name, and appreciated it and its tombolo as one of the finer but interesting details of the coastline, when mapping Tasmania.
But 'The Nut' it is, yet there is much speculation about the origins of this snappier nomenclature, The Nut. Some say is a shortened version of its Aboriginal name, Moo-Nut-Re-Ker. Then another layer comes from the time of construction of the breakwater when it was said that the rock of this massif was “a hard nut to crack”.
While watching from this vantage point we saw a pod of porpoises, and in the evening watched fairy penguins coming in to roost around the base of The Nut.
to convey the idea of immature productions and to excuse atrociously poor photographs. As a matter of fact nearly all the greatest work is being, and has always been done, by those who are following photography for the love of it, and not merely for financial reasons. As the name implies, an amateur is one who works for love; and viewed in this light the incorrectness of the popular classification is readily apparent.
