Captured with a Minolta Dynax 700si on AgfaPhoto APX 100 film, this black-and-white image presents the Reinhold-Maier-Tower in Boertlingen. The green-and-white striped structure, resembling a lighthouse, is a repurposed nearly 100-year-old pendulum tower of the state water supply, now serving as an observation tower. Standing tall against a textured sky, its bold pattern contrasts with the surrounding landscape. A bare tree frames the right side, adding a touch of quiet solitude, while the adjacent building grounds the scene in a sense of place. The image evokes both clarity and nostalgia, blending architectural precision with an atmospheric stillness.

Number 145 makes its personality very clear before you even knock. A bold terracotta-red façade sets the stage, decorated with three metal birds in flight flanking the house number. Below, an iron security gate and wooden pallet do the job of a front door — and do it with attitude. A tilted blue CLOSED sign leaves no room for ambiguity, while a yellow warning notice doubles down: "No stupid people beyond this point." The right panel is a collage of stickers and licence plates spanning continents and decades — Amsterdam, Normandy D-Day 1944, a Techno Valencia tag, an American plate and a chocolate-themed love note. Chaotic, curated, and completely deliberate. Whoever lives here has opinions — and a sense of humour to match.

El número 145 deja clara su personalidad antes de llamar al timbre. Una llamativa fachada roja alberga tres pájaros metálicos en vuelo flanqueando el número de la casa. Off the top of the northwest coast of the Great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland there is one of the best sheltered harbours on this rocky, inhospitable coast, called Flower's Cove. It was name by Captain James Cook, on his 1764 mapping expedition, for the water breaking over the numerous offshore rocks that seamen called 'flowers' in the old days (Fiore D'Aqua).

The harbour was used for boats partaking in the rich cod and seal fishery, both now long gone. In 1877 a lighthouse was built on an offshore island, Flower's Island to warn boats of the Flower's Ledge navigation hazard, and shortly after a radio beacon was also installed on the island. Both were decommissioned in 1968 but the old buildings remain, and I saw a few sheep there that were taken over to graze on the island.

This black and white image shows the abandoned lighthouse, of a unique design, where a series of light keepers and their families lived for many years.

* I designed this Sugar Bag with insuline dependant diabetics in mind. It has no less than ten (!) pockets inside, to carry along insuline pens, needles, bloodsugar measuring device, lancets and test strips, notebook and pen, tissues, etc.

But then again, you don’t need insuline dependant diabetes to enjoy a bag like this, with this many pockets...

The bag is made out of faux suede and faux leather. It gets its sturdiness from a 3mm thick felt layer between the outside and inside fabric.

* Ik heb deze Sugar Bag (Suiker Tas) ontworpen met insuline-afhankelijke suikerzieken in gedachten. De tas heeft niet minder dan tien (!) binnenzakken, om er insuline pennen, naalden, bloedsuiker meetapparaat, lancetjes en teststrips, notitieboekje en pen, tissues, etc. in mee te nemen.

Maar je hoeft natuurlijk geen insuline afhankelijke diabeet te zijn om van een tas als deze, met zoveel zakken, te genieten.

De tas is gemaakt uit namaak suède en namaak leer. Hij krijgt zijn stevigheid door een 3mm dikke laag vilt tussen de buitenste en de binnenste stof.
