The soaring Gothic lancet arches of the interior of Wells Cathedral direct attention to the heavens above & the windows let in lots of glorious light. The unique scissor arches add to the effect of otherworldly glory. The arches were added in the early 14th century.
Going back to 1927 with its distinct green exterior paint treatment on MacDougal Street we find the quaint coffee shop Café Reggio in the heart of Greenwich Village. Opened by the first proprietor Domenico Parisi it featured a beautiful chrome and brass espresso machine made in 1902 which brought cappuccino which had become popular in Italy at the beginning of the Twentieth Century to America for the very first time. Thus explaining Café Reggio’s moniker, “the home of the “Original Cappuccino””. It is quaint and cozy café, with sidewalk tables (when it’s not cold) and a unique interior that can be described as artistic, surrounded with artwork some dating back to the Italian Renaissance period, including an old bench with the distinct crest of the Medici Family which actually belonged to them. The cappuccino is outstanding, as is their regular coffee. The menu is not restricted to coffee; I’ve had some of the excellent food on their menu including their tomato soup and their delectable Ravioli Al Pesto and both were marvelous. The desserts….to die for, their canolli’s sweet, the sfogliatella, the éclairs, yummy and the napoleon wonderful. Definitely worth the trip and reasonably priced if you’re in the area. If you like big spacious dining establishments, you will feel claustrophobic here, a real café environment, small tables, relatively snug quarters whether you are inside or out. A piece of Greenwich Village and New York City history that hails back to when the Italian immigrants abounded in lower Manhattan. It’s not Starbucks and the many regurgitated clone franchises that seem to spring up almost weekly in the city and it is its uniqueness that makes it so special giving it a unique vibe you can’t find anywhere else.

"Glacier National Park is not actually in the Rocky Mountains but in the Columbia Mountains which are comprised of the Purcell, Selkirk, Cariboo and Monashee ranges. The Columbia Mountains are geologically and climatically distinct from the Rockies. The region has three different life zones determined by elevation.
The lowest zone, Rainforest, is a unique interior rainforest characterized by dense vegetation and large trees such as Western Red Cedar and Western Hemlock, as well as ferns and mosses. The middle zone, Snowforest, is characterized by Subalpine Fir, Mountain Hemlock and Spruce. The highest zone, No Forest, is above the treeline and provides habitat for much of the area’s wildlife."
And of course also Happy International Women's Day!
Design by David Andrén, Johan Andrén, Tjåsa Gusfors, Sweden. The artists behind this year’s church wanted their design to celebrate the greatness and complexity of nature. The visitor is led into the church through a thick forest. The path through the room is not clear from the outset and you will have to slow down and perhaps even take a few detours to get to where you want to be. Suddenly, a holy room appears, filled with light and embraced by a peaceful, tall forest. Between the trees, there is lush and vital greenery, ferns slowly unfolding their leaves and a sunflower radiates behind the cere- monial altar. The center of the sunflower strives both clockwise and counter-clockwise, symbolizing eternal love:
“During the design process, we have thought about everything from nature’s smallest elements to the fringes of the universe and the beginning of time.”
Located in the Heart of Music City beside the Johnny Cash Museum, Sun Diner Nashville offers southern hospitality and gourmet cuisine day and night. Our specially designed menu compliments the unique interior that celebrates Sun Records’ legendary artists we have recognized for decades.
The Sun Records sound was a fusion of rock & roll and country music (or hillbilly, as it was called in the 50’s) that was labeled rockabilly. The Sun sound was exemplified by early Sun recordings made by Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison.

The architecture of the silo shows the inspiring connection between tradition and modernity. It sets a new benchmark in terms of industrial history and urban planning: the 43 meter high silo was built in the 1930s to store oil seeds and grain for the production of margarine. It should never be more than a silo.
Now it has been converted into an office building with 14 floors and a total of 13,460 m² of office space. By preserving striking parts of the historical substance, a building was created with a unique interior layout. Even the facade signals individuality and industrial references through its constructive design.
ICEHOTEL is the world’s first and largest hotel built of snow and ice and it is situated in Jukkasjärvi, a small village in Northern Sweden with 1,100 residents and 1,000 dogs.
Each winter, some 50,000 visitors from all over the world come to see ICEHOTEL to experience the tranquility, the northern lights and all of the activities offered in Europe’s last wilderness 200 km north of the Arctic Circle.
ICEHOTEL covers 5,500 square meters and is constructed from 1,000 tonnes of Torne River ice and 30,000 tons of “snice”, a mixture of snow and ice that strengthens the structure. Around 100 people are involved in the construction of ICEHOTEL, half of which are artists especially invited to design particular areas of the hotel. The construction is a year-round process. Between March and April, 5,000 tons of ice is harvested from the Torne River and kept in cold storage during spring and summer. Construction takes place in November and December and the entire ICEHOTEL is then open between December and mid-April, when everything begins to slowly melt and return to the Torne River.
More about this particular art suite:
ART SUITE: 7 , 5 ° Rø
Wolfgang-A. Lüchow, Sebastian Andreas Scheller, Anja Kilian, Germany
Playing with notions of matter and space, the 7.5 °Rø suite is divided into 12 frames, each leaning against the frame in front at an angle of 7.5 degrees. The gradient creates a spiral-like twist within the room and an illusion of infinity. The artists were in- spired by the Danish astronomer Ole Christensen Rømer, who invented a thermometer that measures in Rø units. According to this scale, water turns to ice at 7.5° Rø, a concept that the creators have used here:
“In our suite, we experiment with the power of change. At 7.5° Rø, water turns to ice, and the frames in the room also incline at a 7.5 degree angle. In this suite, the guests will also change state, from being awake to falling asleep.”

Hundertwasserhaus, Vienna.
An apartment house in Vienna, Austria, designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, was built between 1983 and 1986.
It features undulating floors, a roof covered with earth and grass, and large trees growing from inside the rooms, with limbs extending from windows. He felt that standard architecture could not be called art, and declared that the design of any building should be influenced by the aesthetics of its eventual tenants.
I love Hundertwasserhaus, so many imaginations fly…
I was amazed when looking through this frosted glass and seeing these magical shadows, in a way reflecting Gaudí's ingenious design works of the interior of Casa Batlló.
Taken in one of the many interesting rooms inside Casa Batlló, Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona, Spain, as part of a series of excursion tours during my Mediterranean Cruise
Casa Batlló is a renowned building located in the center of Barcelona and is one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that. Like everything Gaudí designed, it is only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. In 2005 Casa Batlló became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. [Extract from Wikipedia]

We went for brunch to a recently opened Chinese noodle restaurant in Cupertino, California. Very unique interior with heart shaped red chairs and yellow porcelain. The food was very unique too. This dish has stiff noodles sticking up. They hold soft noodles with chopsticks, and pour boiling oil over it to instantly deep fry and stiffen it!

According to local legends, the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca was founded at the request of Prince James I. Prince James I, who was sailing to Majorca in 1229, encountered a very strong storm. The ruler, fearing for his life, swore that if he got away safe, he would fund the most magnificent temple in honor Mother of God. However, the Moors, who at that time occupied today's Palma de Mallorca, stood in the way of the ruler. Already on December 31, 1229, the city surrendered after the siege by the army of James I.
The first foundations were laid at the beginning of 1230 on the site of the former mosque. The construction of the Cathedral (La Seu) in Palma de Mallorca, however, took another 400 years. The modern look of cathedral dates back to 1851, when a strong earthquake forced some renovation works. The cathedral is one of largest in the world; it is 121 meters long, 44 meters wide and 55 meters high.
Attention is drawn to the huge rose window above the main nave of the cathedral, which is one of the seven in this cathedral. Another unique interior design is a huge chandelier, which was designed in the form crown of thorns by Antonio Gaudi.
-
It's almost like a children's wonderland once I get inside Casa Batlló....with striking colors and shapes everywhere. Here on the rooftop these unique and colorful chimneys with beautiful mosaic tiles are yet another example of Gaudí’s iconic architectural works.

Miyahara Eye Hospital, a new tourist attraction at Central district of Taichung, is actually an ice cream joint. It was an eye clinic built by a Japanese optometrist- Miyahara (Gong Yuan) during the time of the Japanese occupation. It is a 2-story red brick building with arch designed passageway, which was the largest eye clinic in Taichung at that time. In 1945, the building was levied by government and became the Taichung Health Center; however, later it was identified as dangerous post-earthquake building after 921 earthquakes and became an obsolete remnant.
Miyahara Eye Hospital is set at Central District of Taichung, where is the recessional commercial area for decades. The renovation of this relic is not only to establish a flagship store for “Dawn Cake” (日出蛋糕), but also to accomplish a dream of this construction team, restoring the prosperity of Central District of Taichung. Also, the owner hopes that this ancient building would pass down memories and spirits of the history had happened in this sector to young generations. Just as expect, since Miyahara Eye Hospital reopened on December of 2011, it attracts attention of local and international tourists, as well as the government officers here for observation and inspection; the store is full of visitors every day from the morning to the evening.
A unique interior design is another appealing focal point. Based on the original clinic and pharmacy design blends in with the essential concept of reading and books in their interior design, the store is fitted with high ceiling, light-brown wooden wall book cabinets, medicine chests and warm lighting in creating tranquility and a library atmosphere. Many constructional materials were specifically retained from original building such as wood pillars, bricks and roof tiles reveal an ancient and historical ambience. With the reading encouragement purpose, books are the main decorations in the store, as well as the book’s outfit design of gift box makes guests feel like they are in the library. The store of “Dawn Cake” (日出蛋糕) is renowned of its native pineapple cake, cheese cake and other culinary products, so that it is a perfect souvenir as gift when people visit Taichung.
The Hill House is considered to be Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s domestic masterpiece. Commissioned by Glasgow book publisher Walter Blackie, up-and-coming architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and artist Margaret Macdonald worked collaboratively to create almost everything you see here, from the building itself to the furniture and textiles.
Mackintosh was a revolutionary designer, but the materials and techniques at the cutting edge of architectural design in 1900 haven’t withstood a century of the west of Scotland’s harsh, wet weather conditions.
The external render of the property has not proved watertight and the walls have gradually become saturated and are crumbling, with water now threatening the interiors. If no actio taken, the house will be irreparably damaged and we’ll lose its iconic architecture and unique interiors forever.
A 10-year conservation programme, which will allow continued public access to the house has begun.
Stage one opened to visitors in early June 2019, with a protective steel frame structure covered in chainmail mesh, featuring walkways around and over the top of the house. This structure, along with a new visitor centre, delivers a unique heritage visitor experience, offering views of the Hill House that have never been seen before, even by Mackintosh himself.
I doubt the "Aventador" will ever get as good as this.... But then again, what can we do! Farewell, Murcielago, 2011 will be your official death. But you'll live on in our spirit!!!

Roquetaillade is a natural defensive site, with its roots going back to prehistory. The name Roquetaillade means " carved out of rock " and indeed the grottoes beneath the site were home to troglodyte man. In case of attack they took refuge on the motte. The first earth and timber fortifications were certainly constructed by Charlemagne as he advanced towards the Pyrenees, and then over the years they were replaced by stone fortifications and the old castle come into existence ( 11 th century ). It continued to be extended up until early 14 th century.
In 1306 Cardinal de la Motte received permission from King Edward 1st of England to build a new castle. For this, we must thank his uncle, Pope Clement V. first French pope in Avignon. Clement V's political power was vast and extended as a far as Oxford. What we see today is a unique example of feudal architecture, that is to say two fortresses within the same castle walls. Roquetaillade has been home of the same family since its origins.
The first major restoration was in the 17 th century. Many Renaissance features were added on the first floor, windows were opened and monumental chimney pieces were created.
The second restoration is 19 th century and is the work of the famous french architect Viollet le Duc. His unique interior decorations and furniture created in Roquetaillade are now listed "Monument Historique".

Auditorium / Concert Hall inside a volcanic lava tube.
Architect: César Manrique & Jesús Soto, 1966-1968, 1987 (lava tube concert hall)
The Jameos del Agua complex is the quintessence of 1960's and 70's cool - a cultural centre, nightclub, museum and concert hall in and around a hollow lava tunnel on the island of Lanzarote.
The term Jameo refers to the partially collapsed roof of the tunnel (formed by flowing lava, which gradually hardens on the outside, leaving the inside hollow), and this particular example features intact, covered parts of the tube and open, courtyard-like spaces.
Inside and around this natural setting, the centre combines nightclubs and dancefloors around a sunken saltwater lagoon inhabited by a rare species of albino crabs, a paradisical pool in the open part which serves as a natural lava-foyer space for the unique concert hall inside the tunnel itself, and a large number of buildings with gardens and roof terraces which house restaurants and bars, a volcanic museum and various arts facilities.

The Cathedral of Monreale (near Palermo, Sicily) is one of the greatest monuments of Norman Romanesque architecture. Construction began in 1174, initiated by the Norman King William II (1155-1189). It was elevated to the rank of metropolitan cathedral in 1182 by Pope Lucius III. Construction was not completed until 1267.
The entire interior of the cathedral is decorated in stunning Byzantine mosaics on gold ground from 1179-1182. They cover 6,340 square meters (68,243 sq ft) and represent the most extensive mosaic decor in Italy. King William II, the grandson of Roger II who had built the Cefalù Cathedral and Cappella Palatina in Palermo, assembled the best Byzantine artists here to create this unique interior.

Former luxury train "Metropolitan" commutes nowadays as normal ICE between Berlin and Munich. It looks like an InterCity train but it is much more complex: This train is led as a trainset. Like normal ICE trains the wagons have a special central buffer coupling that can only be divided or united at the home depot. There are two train sets existing - consisting of a class 101 engine and seven coaches. These wagons have a very unique interior: the interior trim panel is made of pear wood and the ceiling is made of stainless steal. At the 15th of June 2017 this train was rerouted over Ingolstadt due to construction works on the track via Augsburg. Near Fahlenbach I took this picture of ICE 1005 from Berlin Gesundbrunnen to Munich main station hauled by 101 131.

Architect: César Manrique 1966, 1992
The artist's former private residence, in Taro de Tahíche near Teguise, was built after his return to Lanzarote from the US. The 3,000 m2 home is more a loose agglomeration of volumes, strewn over a lava field, which disguises the real clou of the design: The six interconnected subterraenian lava bubbles (cavities formed by gas pockets in the molten lava) upon which the house is built, and which serve as a series of indoor and outdoor spaces including a pool patio, gardens and several lounges centered on trees growing through natural skylight openings.
The residence was turned into a museum and home of the Fundación César Manrique in 1992.
From the museum’s website:
By 1897 handmade objects were being discarded in favor of new machine-made goods. Historian and archaeologist Henry Mercer (1856-1930) recognized the need to collect and preserve the outmoded material of daily life in America before it was swept away by the Industrial Revolution. Mercer gathered almost 30,000 items ranging from hand tools to horse-drawn vehicles and assembled this encyclopedic collection in a system of his own devising. To enhance the collection’s educational value, and to share it with the public, Mercer decided to design and build a museum to display the artifacts.
In 1916, Mercer erected a 6-story concrete castle. The towering central atrium of the Museum was used to hang the largest objects such as a whale boat, stage coach and Conestoga wagon. On each level surrounding the court, smaller exhibits were installed in a warren of alcoves, niches and rooms according to Mercer’s classifications — healing arts, tinsmithing, dairying, lighting and so on. The end result of the building is a unique interior that is both logical and provocative. It requires the visitor to view objects in a new way. Henry Mercer donated the building and his collection to the Bucks County Historical Society.
